London Tier 2 Lockdown?

daily fail link

This sounds pretty definite (yet another leak) - so no mixing of households inside at all from today in London?

OP posts:
CallmeFP · 12/10/2020 16:04

No mention of London as yet only of Liverpool? Is he saving London for tonight’s announcement?

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/10/2020 16:11

I'm none the wiser, tbh, and I'm watching parliament live.

cheninblanc · 12/10/2020 16:12

Doesn't look like London is coming under anything additional despite all the media today!

myhobbyisouting · 12/10/2020 16:31

It is all speculation. They are still in talks with local councils. Why not just wait?

LaurieFairyCake · 12/10/2020 16:31

Nothing for London yet despite every single news outlet trailing it Confused

I DO think he will announce this evening

cheninblanc · 12/10/2020 16:46

Lauriefairycake I'm inclined to think he won't now. I don't see it coming for London just yet

Haenow · 12/10/2020 16:47

Even if London goes into higher restrictions, I don’t see why they’d skip tier 2 and go straight to tier 3.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/10/2020 16:48

Tier 2 is the no households mixing inside - that's the one that prevents me going on holiday

myhobbyisouting · 12/10/2020 16:52

@LaurieFairyCake why can't you go on holiday without the other family?

MadameMinimes · 12/10/2020 16:53

Presumably because they have booked shared accommodation.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/10/2020 16:56

Yes, we've booked and paid for it together - and it's half term, so not cheap

myhobbyisouting · 12/10/2020 17:09

If you can't visit due to restrictions then you'll be able to cancel or change it.

Book something else separately if you need a holiday. We've had to do the same due to a local lockdown and now it looks as though we won't even be able to go just as a household. At least you've got options.

Devlesko · 12/10/2020 17:24

Tier 2 is a bugger, no difference for us in the NW, no difference from March.

Good luck to those just entering the no mixing households, it will test your strength.
When you see other gp's visiting their gc and you know that if you did this you'd be reported and you can't afford the hefty fines.
I've cried buckets.

Sorry, I know I'm NW. Just wanted to send good wishes to Londoners.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 12/10/2020 17:27

So if we go into tier 2. (Not the north but over 100 per 100 000, looking unlikely just yet) can I give a friend a lift?

MadameMinimes · 12/10/2020 17:28

Pineapple- no.

myhobbyisouting · 12/10/2020 17:37

@Devlesko indeed. It's hard to sit and read a lot of this tbh.

We've had a long hard time of it and no end in sight. We were locked down with hardly any cases for a long few months. Now we've got to do it again.

cheninblanc · 12/10/2020 18:37

No additional measures for London today, confirmed on sky news. I'm cross now tbh with the media saying definitely London and now it's not true. They behave appallingly

Lau52 · 12/10/2020 18:46

My parents live Greater London and rates doubled recently now at 118/100,000. So would expect to go into tier 3.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/10/2020 18:54

According to BBC, boroughs like Bromley have around 50-60 cases per 100,000... Nothing like the central London ones. So would they be expected to have the same restrictions?

I've seen my parents once since March. 10 days until I see them again (in Bromley).

PimlicoJo · 12/10/2020 19:05

I'm in London. My niece has arrived from overseas to stay with me and is 11 days into her 14 day quarantine. No covid symptoms. Just doing the right thing. Meanwhile Kanye West and his daughter are swanning around London as it seems quarantine doesn't apply to them.

That Scottish MP knowingly travelled after testing positive for Covid because the rules apparently didn't apply to her either.

I'm the most law abiding person there is but it's all a mess now. .

I expect London to get stricter measures (although my Borough has low rates of infection) but who will adhere to them? There's no enforcement. How do we get out of this mess?

NRatched · 12/10/2020 19:13

@Ryerossy

And that's exactly why they need to issue blanket restrictions

It won't make any difference; I won't be complying.

This has been the reaction of so many I know to the restrictions on any household mixing in the NE, while others were able to follow the 'rule of 6'.

Loads of these people complied with all of the rules so far too (and are actively complying with the other rules too) but 'no mixing of households, at all' seemed to be when the dam broke.

Its a harsh restriction that has NO WAY of working long term realistically. We should really be looking at things that we could do longterm (which is where masks where possible, distancing and such have it right) rather than stuff that will lose even more of the general public. The amount now ignoring that rule round here is both slightly worrying, and understandable to me. Not even sure if I am breaking it by allowing MIL to come here still. Have been told both that 'support bubbles' are still a thing, and that even they come under the 'no mixing' rule, and internet also says both, while the local area rules site does not mention support bubbles at all Hmm . Whether I am breaking the rules sticking with supporting her, makes no odds to us really, we will keep doing it due to the severe issues last lockdown with her mental health through total isolation.

Sighs

Frogmarching · 12/10/2020 19:23

The thing is, you can't expect people to just not see other households indefinitely. It isn't practical. There is no indication of how long we will wait for a vaccine.

But you can't see that restrictions are likely to be in place longer the less people comply?

They will be in place anyway until there is a vaccine. If the government got a decent test, trace and isolate system in place there wouldn't be any need for any of it.

OK, so say no household mixing for the next 2 months. OK great, then what? We go back to mixing again and then cases go up. No. People aren't prepared to do that until there is a vaccine. The government needs to read the public mood and change their strategy. Aggressive test, trace, isolate.
