Will you be getting the track and trace app? If not, why not?

I've downloaded it. The only info I had to give was the first half of my postcode. I'm happy to use it, I have nothing to hide! However, I know there will be people who are unhappy to use it. If you are one of them, please tell me why. Is it a civil liberties issue?

New apps frequently have bugs on first release. I'll wait a week or so.

Spodge · 25/09/2020 18:01

I've got it and used it to check in at the gym today. It's simple to use.

timeforawine · 25/09/2020 18:03

I've got it, got contact tracing turned on and have used it to check into venues. Nice and easy

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 25/09/2020 18:04

Its not compatible on my phone. I have a relatively new smartphone, not some kind of ancient brick of a phone either, surprises me how limited the number of compatible handsets is.

Miljea · 25/09/2020 18:04

Well, your post prompted me to download the app!

Our government have been woefully slow if not downright incompetent to date, but this is one small thing we can do.

And I might get a couple of days off work 😂😂

(ONLY JOKING 😉)

FairIsleFenella · 25/09/2020 18:10

I hope most people will do it and I'm sure the gov's tech people are working on the incompatibility issues. Seems a lot easier than having to write down your name etc every time you go somewhere.

I downloaded it but it killed my battery really quickly - usually I can go 36 hoursish between charges but my phone went from fully charged to 2% in 6 hours. Obviously Bluetooth uses a lot of battery but perhaps it's a bug? I don't go anywhere anyway, just the supermarket a few times a week and walks with DH, so never in close contact with anyone really.

Cecilia2016 · 25/09/2020 18:12

I have done mine and my 16 year old daughter

ShoppingAllDay · 25/09/2020 18:13

I've got it!
Not too sure how it works though; say I check in somewhere and someone at the same time then tests positive will they contact me?

RedRumTheHorse · 25/09/2020 18:15

@FairIsleFenella LOL

As someone who has been one of the government's tech people in the past.

skintbutok · 25/09/2020 18:16

I manage a hospitality venue so I sort of have to if I'm asking others to use it. It's very easy to use, but I wouldn't be surprised if it all goes wrong.

Frappuccinofan · 25/09/2020 18:16

I downloaded it but it doesn’t work on my phone! I have iPhone XS which was released in 2018 so hardly ancient.

GenericFemalePal · 25/09/2020 18:16

It doesn’t work on my iPhone 6, which was new (to me) a year ago. Which is annoying, but I’m not upgrading just for this.

Frappuccinofan · 25/09/2020 18:17

This is the error

Will you be getting the track and trace app? If not, why not?
NailsNeedDoing · 25/09/2020 18:20

I don’t understand enough about how it works, so I’ll avoid it until I do. It’s not about civil liberties though, more that I don’t trust that it will work well and I have no desire to be caught up in any more of the government’s mistakes.

lanbro · 25/09/2020 18:20

I own a coffee shop so feel that if I'm asking people to use it I have to, although dont really go anywhere apart from my own shop! Anyway, I think it's a good thing, needs to work on more devices but I'm not concerned about being "tracked"

Comefromaway · 25/09/2020 18:21

No because my iPhone 6 is too old.

profpoopsnagle · 25/09/2020 18:22

I don't think I will, but I don't really frequent 'hospitality' places at the moment and get what I can delivered, and I'm not a big phone person, sometimes forget to take it out.

I only know 1 person who has, but I suspect she's done it to try and get time of work where ever she can! Wink

Pinkshrimp · 25/09/2020 18:24

My iphone is too old Blush

wendz86 · 25/09/2020 18:25

Yes and also used it to sign into gym today .

ACautionaryTale · 25/09/2020 18:25

Nope - because I’ve had covid, I’m not scared of covid and I can’t afford to isolate if I get pinged. (Self employed)

So ignorance is bliss as far as I’m concerned

CrunchyCarrot · 25/09/2020 18:26

No, I don't have a smart phone. But as I'm housebound I don't think it would be much use to me. Would get it if circumstances were different.

Frappuccinofan · 25/09/2020 18:26

I was at a restaurant yesterday (but ordering for takeaway) and they weren’t allowing anyone to sit in who didn’t have the app downloaded and proved that they had used the restaurant’s QR code

Redwinestillfine · 25/09/2020 18:26

Unsure. I don't know enough about it yet Where is the data going? Central Government?

Lockdownfatigue · 25/09/2020 18:27

No, because my phone is too old.
