Will you be getting the track and trace app? If not, why not?

I've downloaded it. The only info I had to give was the first half of my postcode. I'm happy to use it, I have nothing to hide! However, I know there will be people who are unhappy to use it. If you are one of them, please tell me why. Is it a civil liberties issue?

No.
I don’t really go anywhere or speak to anyone

Kitcat122 · 25/09/2020 18:59

I will because I will do anything to help control Covid so we can get our lives back on track. If everyone had the attitude about ignorance is bliss we will never get over this horrible situation and the R number will keep climbing.

Buggedandconfused · 25/09/2020 19:02

No, there’s not much point if loads of people can’t have it on their older phones! Also, I don’t trust the Govt with my data etc.

HeIenaDove · 25/09/2020 19:05

@Kitcat122 Cool. I will send you an acc no and sort code so you can buy me an iphone.

iVampire · 25/09/2020 19:05

I’m not bothering because I was on the shielding list and basically don’t go inside anywhere other than my own home or for medical appointments (where they have my details anyway) nor do stay close to strangers outdoors

But I am encouraging DC and XH to get it

ChodeOfChodeBall · 25/09/2020 19:05

No, because I haven't got a smartphone or a tablet.

dementedma · 25/09/2020 19:05

Not downloading any govt software onto my phone. Everything else they've done has been a fuck up. I'm not relying on this sending me into isolation whenever it feels like it

Rocket1982 · 25/09/2020 19:06

no, it does't work with the iPhone 6. :(

ChodeOfChodeBall · 25/09/2020 19:08

Actually, I wouldn't download it even if I did have the technology. It's all Big Brother stuff, and there is no way I want any part of it. I do not give my real name and phone number when asked for it, either. If I develop Covid symptoms, I will stay at home until I'm better. If I don't, I won't.

carly2803 · 25/09/2020 19:09

yes, least i can do.

as well as social distance and stay away from fucking morons. which i try to do anyhow.

Lemons1571 · 25/09/2020 19:09

Probably not until forced to by stealth (not allowed in restaurants etc until you have the app working).

I need to know that the app is working sensibly and not making people isolate because a bus/car stopped by them at traffic lights or in a traffic queue. Or two phones in adjacent lockers at work / gym.

If it only picks up proper contacts eg an hour coffee date face to face with no mitigations, then fine. But I read something about 4 metres? Which immediately made me not trust it. Distancing has been 2m since this all began. Why are they programming the app to suddenly work on 4m?

bumblingbovine49 · 25/09/2020 19:09

I Imight download it (DH has already) but without a working testing and track and trace system comprising of human beings (preferably with medical training), the app is pretty useless as far as I am concerned. It is a useful addition to a working track and trace system not a replacement for one

DrizzleandDamp · 25/09/2020 19:10

Nope. Not on being tracked as let’s face it if that want to do that they can track you through your phone anyway.

I’m not on:

  • just because I’m vaguely in the same place as someone with Covid doesn’t mean I want to be told I have to isolate for 14 days. No idea what the range is, if I’ve interacted in a way that would put me in any danger of catching it. Let’s face it schools are going to cause enough false isolation I don’t need another layer I’ll never go out.
  • civil liberties if you were pinged but barely likely to have it you are then subject to the draconian measures
sleepwouldbenice · 25/09/2020 19:10

It’s actually not a legal requirement to self isolate if you notified, just obviously highly recommended

Lemons1571 · 25/09/2020 19:13

I also read that you can’t check out of places. What does that mean? I can’t be isolating when I left somewhere 20 minutes before the positive person arrived.

uisage · 25/09/2020 19:13

My main worry is battery life, and a lot of people on this thread have confirmed that it's a valid fear! I live in Scotland so it works by Bluetooth. The main places I go are nursery and my home, whenever I go anywhere I make sure I check in (with the time recorded).

That's not going to happen. It would mean that anyone without a phone/ipad wouldn't be able to go to a restaurant. It would also, in effect, make it compulsory to have a smartphone/tablet (which not everyone can afford). This would be beyond intrusive, and unenforceable.
gingerwhingerwife · 25/09/2020 19:14

No I've got an old phone. Also, I've just recovered from Covid. Have antibodies and going to donate plasma. If track and trace call me this week do I have to isolate? I'm suspecting yes

lljkk · 25/09/2020 19:16

Got it, almost forgotten about now. I barely go near other people, anyway.

I need to say that I find it hilarious that I have a more up to date phone than so many other ppl :). Purchased 18m ago & it was used then, so maybe 2.5 yo Samsung S8.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 25/09/2020 19:17

If this is the app that Dominic Cummings has links to then I won't, no.

user1467300911 · 25/09/2020 19:17

No, I don’t visit many places and my phone battery is too degraded to cope with this app, so I’m just going to carry on giving my name and no.

Fairybatman · 25/09/2020 19:18

It makes sense that the first version of the app would support IOS 13.5 and over as supporting just 13.5 &13.6 covers 69.8% of IOS users (based on August data -it’ll be higher now when you factor in IOS14. Get that version out then start on the backwards compatibility

Each new version of IOS that you include requires a full round of testing and possible additional development and including 13.4 only gives you another 2.9% of users, so far better to get version 1 out and then start mopping up older versions.

iPhone 6s should support it though so if you have that and it’s not working it’s worth updating your phone software. iPhone SE wasn’t on the list that’s been tested but should work too provided your IOS is up to date.

My iPhone works but can I still have some money too?😂

Callipygion · 25/09/2020 19:19

I havent, because last I heard about such an app it had been outsourced to some chum of CummingsandGoings and if that’s the case I’m not interested. Neither am I if that Dodi airhead woman is connected to it after she lost all that data at TalkTalk. If it truly is an NHS app then I will (although they keep referring to Test &Trace as NHS and it’s not, it’s outsourced to SERCO!)

Rudolphian · 25/09/2020 19:20

I cant afford to isolate due to glitches with the app.
I dont trust the app to be accurate.
