Will you be getting the track and trace app? If not, why not?

I've downloaded it. The only info I had to give was the first half of my postcode. I'm happy to use it, I have nothing to hide! However, I know there will be people who are unhappy to use it. If you are one of them, please tell me why. Is it a civil liberties issue?

Phone too old.

NotAKaren · 25/09/2020 20:02

No. I have no confidence in anything this government does given their track record. I am sceptical about Mr Cummings and his misuse of data. Aside from all this my phone is too old.

loulouljh · 25/09/2020 20:05

Definitely not. I have no idea what the Government or any third party will do with the data. and won't believe whatever they said they will do or not do. So no.

Happyheartlovelife · 25/09/2020 20:06

No way

I work in cyber security

Nooooo

Blurp · 25/09/2020 20:08

I would download it, but my phone is way too old. My brother is very clued-in to app security etc (he works in that area) and he's not worried about the security and privacy aspects of it (he believes that if you're really worried about privacy, you shouldn't have a smartphone at all), so I'm happy enough that it's not dodgy.

Mytabbymademedoit · 25/09/2020 20:23

Yet another government testing out policy by social media

AnnieP1 · 25/09/2020 20:24

Can't download it - phone too old.

ShinyGreenElephant · 25/09/2020 20:30

I've got it but I'm not walking round with my Bluetooth on all day that will kill my battery

Frappuccinofan · 25/09/2020 20:31

Do you mind explaining why?

On the surface it currently doesn’t seem as concerning as the app proposal from a few months ago

Roguesausage · 25/09/2020 20:51

I won't.

I'm becoming extremely concerned about where all this is going. India have made these apps mandatory and people are being forced into further poverty to buy expensive phones or go to prison.

There are also some worrying discussions on the world economic forum about this.

Mittag · 25/09/2020 20:52

Want to download it but can't, my phone memory has an issue, no matter how much I delete (I'm almost back to factory settings) it just says memory full and I can't download any apps 💁‍♀️

Oly4 · 25/09/2020 20:53

Yes of course, I want to do my bit to drive down the pandemic. All I’ve had to give is the postcode. I have no privacy concerns

Beebeeboo2 · 25/09/2020 20:54

I did. Battery seems fine.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/09/2020 21:06

No, not yet, I want to see what glitches there are first. There's probably not a lot of point anyway as I don't always take my phone with me and definitely not to places like the gym or hairdressers.

I won't use companies who make it mandatory to use the app. A beauty salon I go to occasionally has said you have to use the app, but when I asked what about people who can't they said they do keep details manually.

Norugratsatall · 25/09/2020 21:08

No. I did give it a whirl but phone (iPhone 6) appears not to be compatible. 🙄

loulouljh · 25/09/2020 21:10

i agree i wont use companies that make its use mandatory..I saw a lady I have used for eyebrow threading is insisting on using the code so I won't be going there again.

Frappuccinofan · 25/09/2020 21:13

@ShoppingAllDay @FairIsleFenella

To be fair to the restaurant, I think it’s currently a legal requirement for them to use the NHS QR codes? But they’re supposed to have a backup option for those without the app. The restaurant yesterday was making customers download and prep the app before they were allowed to order/sit!

JanewaysBun · 25/09/2020 21:14

Off topic but (android users) for those of you having storage issues check if your phone has a memory card hole.

I got a memory card after having my phone for 3.5 years and it's given it a new lease of life. Not all phones do but worth checking.

Oh and no I won't download. Can't isolate In a flat with a 1 and 2 yr old so just praying we don't get corona!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/09/2020 21:14

I have downloaded it. My phone is an old iPhone SE so just about new enough to be compatible. No problems with battery drain so far.
I don’t go anywhere crowded at the moment though so very unlikely it will be any use except for checking in.

oldmapie · 25/09/2020 21:15

My phone is too old. Other wise yes I would download it.

Frappuccinofan · 25/09/2020 21:15

Sorry was supposed to tag @HeIenaDove above!

Jellykat · 25/09/2020 21:16

Like so many others my phone is too old..
Thinking theres a bit of ageism at work, as lets face it the slightly 'older' generation tend to not feel the need to replace phones if they still work!

I think I'd have walked out! I'll be leaving my phone at home more and more if companies are going to do that. It will serve them right if they lose custom over it. I'm happy to give my details for test and trace (I've already done that when I'm booking anyway) but forcing people to download an app is taking it too far.

Heatherjayne1972 · 25/09/2020 21:24

I’m surprised at businesses turning customers away! What if you don’t own a phone? Do they really want to turn potential income away ?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/09/2020 21:27

My thoughts exactly @Heatherjayne1972. I'd have no sympathy for any business that was in trouble if they are turning business away. We're going for a meal tomorrow night and the restaurant asks people on their FB page to download the app but makes it clear they have the original forms and are happy to record details manually.
