Will you be getting the track and trace app? If not, why not?

I've downloaded it. The only info I had to give was the first half of my postcode. I'm happy to use it, I have nothing to hide! However, I know there will be people who are unhappy to use it. If you are one of them, please tell me why. Is it a civil liberties issue?

*@HeresMe I don't make the rules! I'm not the government! But if under that situation you're told to isolate then there is a reason for it.

Stop blaming me 😂*

No one is blaming you but you started by calling people pathetic, way to turn yourself into a victim.

You called people pathetic for not downloading a app , and the app telling you to isolate is not the rules contrary to what you believe.

ScubaSteven · 27/09/2020 15:29

@HeresMe nope I said some of the reasons people have were pathetic - not all of them, not all people. Avoiding finding out as to avoid isolation is, imo, pathetic because it puts others at risk.

Stop twisting my words.

I'm not turning myself into a victim.

The situation is the problem.

However, if you know you've been exposed to the virus then you have a responsibility to isolate.

Telling me I have no idea about the real world and casting aspersions on my character are not going to change that fact.

ScubaSteven · 27/09/2020 15:30

@HeresMe where did I say downloading the app is a rule? It isn't.

Mintjulia · 27/09/2020 15:33

I've got it on my fairly ancient iPhone.

HeresMe · 27/09/2020 15:36

I am not casting aspersions I am saying people have to pay bills, but you don't care about that

Its all about responsibility to you, if the government told you to drink your own urine would you ? Well they have their reasons.

Lookingbackatme · 27/09/2020 15:49

No, iPhone is too old plus reluctant to do so anyway. Given the total shit show from the government so far, do people really think this App will have 100% accuracy?

Give it a couple of months and people will be on here complaining that the App is instructing them to isolate every other week.

MadameBlobby · 27/09/2020 15:50

It doesn’t matter whether people think the reasons people don’t get the app are pathetic, despite all the other restrictions the government have put in place we are actually still allowed to decide what we want to put on our own private phones.

As for it being our moral duty, civic responsibility etc as someone who has followed every rule and continues to do so, it strikes me that this is all very one way with the government themselves expecting much more of their citizens than they give back.

ScubaSteven · 27/09/2020 15:52

@HeresMe but I haven't said I don't care!

Just like I didn't say that downloading the app was a rule!

I've said that isolating after being in contact with a positive case is a responsibility everyone should take seriously. I don't think I'm in the minority with that opinion somehow.

The app gives us the opportunity to do that.

You're making assumptions about me and my beliefs, your comment about the government telling me to drink my own urine are bizarre.

What do you think will happen if you download the app? If my opinion is so wrong then please tell me what reasons you have to for not downloading the app except to avoid isolating? Because you haven't explained that yet.

HeresMe · 27/09/2020 16:04

I explained my reasons way up thread.

And a app developed by serco / Dido Harding is to be trusted both are responsible for major data breaches.

Baaaahhhhh · 27/09/2020 16:17

HeresMe and so many others on here.

There is NO data on the app, there is nothing that is sensitive, there is nothing that is passed on to anyone. It is a DECENTRALISED system, which is what everyone wanted. Everything is held on your phone.

It has nothing to do with Serco or Dido Harding, or test and trace. It is a separate system.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 27/09/2020 16:48

A lot of people aren’t being allowed into restaurants and cafes because of this app that only some of the population can download. I will be deleting it on principle and not using the app or these places.

It's also the fact that staff are blatantly lying and saying it's 'the law' to have the app.
DilysPrice · 27/09/2020 17:06

I emailed the cafe I was refused entry to when I got home enclosing a link to the government webpage which says that venues must have an alternative means of recording attendance for people without the app. I would suggest that anyone else who’s been denied entry does the same and then eventually venues will get the hang of the rules.

On the question of disability exemptions, they must also allow entry for people who due to mental incapacity can’t give their details at all - though I’m assuming that’s a very small number of customers.

HeresMe · 27/09/2020 17:37

So you say.

loulouljh · 27/09/2020 17:42

Places denying access without the app are going to be losing customers!!! So short sighted. It is not a requirement..they can take down your details...

NotAKaren · 27/09/2020 17:49

The app gives us the opportunity to do that*

Agree that it is the responsible thing to do but given that only a very small percentage of people are fully isolating with symptoms or if they have been in close contact with a confirmed case, I cannot see how an app would change this behaviour.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/09/2020 17:55

Surely the app would be more use if you could actually check out when you leave a shop/venue

ScubaSteven · 27/09/2020 20:36

@NotAKaren sadly I agree with you there - it's behaviour that needs to change and there are probably only a few people who would feel the moral responsibility to update the app so others can decide what to do.

It's a shame more people don't see it as a collective responsibility, rather than focusing instead on it being a plot from government to steal our data and control our lives.

I know that I'd be thankful to receive a message to say I'd been in close contact with a positive case, rather than continue to go about my business unaware. If I developed symptoms then at least I'd know to isolate but if I was asymptomatic then I could be putting so many others at risk without even knowing.

I know people can't be forced to download an app, but surely any further knowledge we have to help us lessen the spread and protect the vulnerable is worth a try?

sashagabadon · 27/09/2020 20:44

I have the app.
Actually has a v useful section with loads of general covid info all in one handy place so worth it for that reason too

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/09/2020 21:47

I used the check in function today. Nice and quick (compared to the one at Costa where you had to faff around filling in numbers of people with you etc).

Oh my! Hmm

www.gov.uk/government/publications/nhs-covid-19-app-privacy-information/nhs-test-and-trace-app-early-adopter-trial-august-2020-privacy-notice

www.wired.co.uk/article/nhs-covid-19-tracking-app-contact-tracing The source code for the app is freely available (link in the Wired article) so you can bet your bottom dollar that if it does share data then we would have heard about it by now.

Won’t work on my elderly iPhone
