Yay.

Second wave coming
OP posts:
CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/09/2020 19:25

The only thing that confuses me about the second wave is when did the first wave end?

Have you never been to the beach, then?

notevenat20 · 18/09/2020 19:26

The second wave has never been as bad as the first in any country, has it?

It was much worse in some famous pandemics. That is not to say it will be now of course.

MJMG2015 · 18/09/2020 19:27

@Beebityboo

This quote in the article really pissed me off "the British people have done an amazing job - they've brought that peak down by discipline" but that "people find it difficult to keep this up, it's difficult to maintain that discipline for a long time". All our own fault, not at all the responsibility of the absolute clowns in power and certainly nothing to do with the fact that our testing system is in the toilet, that the young were actively encouraged to go out and spend money in restaurants, that schools were sent back with no extra funding and safety measures that will do diddly squat to stave off a virus that is spread by aerosol. And even now, even now they have given notice to care homes that they will once again have to accept Coronavirus patients. This is manslaughter. Sorry for the rant but I am so mad and so so upset that it has gotten this bad, this quickly. It didn't have to be like this!!
Thanks. Saved me typing it out.

Going to find the gin instead. I'll be back!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/09/2020 19:27

Nah, Alaska, we have a member of staff at my school having to self-isolate cos her hairdresser had a positive test. I'm wondering whether to just grow dreds.

MJMG2015 · 18/09/2020 19:28

@justanotherneighinparadise

Excellent! Batten down the hatches everyone, it’s fucking Coronavirus the sequel.
Your post made me laugh. Cheers!
MagicSummer · 18/09/2020 19:28

We have endured lockdown and a miserable summer and I really thought we were coming out on the other side, but this news has really made me despair for the first time in this saga - I cried miserably tonight, wondering when we will EVER get back to normal.

notevenat20 · 18/09/2020 19:28

Can our dear PM tell us exactly where all the supply teachers are going to come from once too many school staff have to self-isolate due to covid symptoms & they can't get a timely test so they can ensure they can be back at work as soon aspossible

The testing problem is brand new. Hopefully it will get better in the next couple of weeks.

notevenat20 · 18/09/2020 19:29

This lockdown won't be like the last one. Don't despair.

swabthenose · 18/09/2020 19:29

If the schools are staying open

Well I’ll take to rioting if they aren’t

Rioting won't make teachers able to go into school when their children have a temperature and they have to isolate for 2 weeks because they can't get a test.

Southernsoftie76 · 18/09/2020 19:29

@lughnasadh are you for real? Very few people are dying now exactly like at the beginning of March and we all know what happened very quickly over a few weeks. I hope they do re open the Nightingale hospitals and hope to god that they won’t be needed again.

AdelaidePlace · 18/09/2020 19:29

*Please let them keep the schools open. Please.

If they are true to their word (hah) primaries should stay open but secondaries might move to two weeks on then two weeks off alternating*

This depends on the teachers playing ball of course. Fingers crossed*

Playing ball? ...this isn't a game....

Teachers are just the same as the rest of the population, they don't choose to have COVID.
Schools without teachers will be closed...unless you expect either

  • teachers to teach with COVID
  • Children to be alone in school buildings.

There are already schools closed.

MJMG2015 · 18/09/2020 19:30

@frozendaisy

I am just pondering this .... Writing a list Lockdown was terrible for me last time.
What's on your list?

I've had a 'Winter List' for a few weeks now, just a few things to do/get to make the long winter a little nicer. Not done them yet but will soon!!

annabel85 · 18/09/2020 19:30

@Ravenesque

The only thing that confuses me about the second wave is when did the first wave end?

I'm sure we'll all be fine once Dildo Hardon figures out which is her arse and which is her elbow.

Infection rates were relatively low from end of May to early August in most of the country. It started to creep up in August with all the holidays and eat out to help out and people generally acting like it's all over.

Then as soon as the kids went back, the small rippled turn into a strong wave.

JS87 · 18/09/2020 19:30

Hairdressers would be safer if they wore masks instead of ineffective visors

Sobeyondthehills · 18/09/2020 19:30

If only we had some advance warning that a second wave might hit, or that we were an island with the ability to stop flights coming in.

Or that we had 6 months to get a world class track and trace system in place, or any type of testing that would grow as people sent their kids back to school.

If only, some of this would have been possible

ineedaholidaynow · 18/09/2020 19:31

@notevenat20 what do you mean by teachers playing ball?

Dominicgoings · 18/09/2020 19:31

@notevenat20

What countries are you referring to? France, Spain etc look to only be slightly ahead of us again in terms of infection rates. I don’t think they’re anywhere near the peak of any second waves. What other countries worldwide are you referring to?
Teateaandmoretea · 18/09/2020 19:31

Oh come on swab I am clearly talking about general policy not individual schools screwed up by the testing fiasco. P

swabthenose · 18/09/2020 19:31

The only thing that confuses me about the second wave is when did the first wave end?

You're actually right. It's just the uncontrolled non-suppression of the first wave. It didn't go anywhere, despite people walking around acting like it wasn't real and childishly calling anyone who said it could come back a 'dementor'.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 18/09/2020 19:31

@CurlyhairedAssassin doesn’t mean it’s going to happen everywhere though does it? I live in a rural area of Scotland, very few cases/deaths throughout and hopefully that continues, I haven’t seen anything in our numbers to justify closing business/schools etc currently unless things really started to rise here.

MarshaBradyo · 18/09/2020 19:31

Listening to news. ‘Coming to the U.K.’ is silly

Schools open, businesses as far as we can - Johnson quote

SoManyActivities · 18/09/2020 19:31

@MagicSummer

We have endured lockdown and a miserable summer and I really thought we were coming out on the other side, but this news has really made me despair for the first time in this saga - I cried miserably tonight, wondering when we will EVER get back to normal.
But this was predicted all along? Its inevitable without a vaccine unless we stay locked down?
AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 18/09/2020 19:32

@JS87 my hairdresser wears Both. It obviously varies massively as with everything

annabel85 · 18/09/2020 19:32

If only we had some advance warning that a second wave might hit, or that we were an island with the ability to stop flights coming in.

We let things get out of hand and then react which leads to a panicked response.

Legoandloldolls · 18/09/2020 19:32

I though we was already in the second wave? Its definitely going up on the graph?

I'm.actually quite surprised how fast its rising. I thought it would be a slower increase with all the masks, hand washing, distancing, with etc.

Its interesting living through sometime they might be teaching about in schools one day. I want to skip to the end now. Tell me what happens next, it's like a book you cant predict the ending.
