Second wave coming

Yay.

Second wave coming
OP posts:
theluckiest · 18/09/2020 18:44

I may be reading too much into this, but I hate the wording of this statement.

The 'Second Wave is coming to the UK' - this even implies that it's coming from somewhere else!! As in, 'Great. Who can we blame now? Wasn't me...'

When in actual fact, it's been here all this time and the levels of incompetence, gaslighting, pig-headedness and downright lies from our dear leaders are what's going to result in the second wave being worse than previously anticipated.

I see you Boris. I see you.

SockYarn · 18/09/2020 18:44

Whatever. MN have been predicting it since May Bank Holiday.

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 18/09/2020 18:47

@RedToothBrush

Well at least that put an end to the 'do you think there will be a second wave' threads...
And silenced the loons who said there wouldn't be one.
TheRedShoes75 · 18/09/2020 18:47

@Beebityboo

This quote in the article really pissed me off "the British people have done an amazing job - they've brought that peak down by discipline" but that "people find it difficult to keep this up, it's difficult to maintain that discipline for a long time". All our own fault, not at all the responsibility of the absolute clowns in power and certainly nothing to do with the fact that our testing system is in the toilet, that the young were actively encouraged to go out and spend money in restaurants, that schools were sent back with no extra funding and safety measures that will do diddly squat to stave off a virus that is spread by aerosol. And even now, even now they have given notice to care homes that they will once again have to accept Coronavirus patients. This is manslaughter. Sorry for the rant but I am so mad and so so upset that it has gotten this bad, this quickly. It didn't have to be like this!!
I wish there was a like button.This, exactly this.
knittingaddict · 18/09/2020 18:48

Yes passmethewineplease, they opened up too much, too soon and this is the result. Not to mention the Dominic Cummings effect.

Yes, yes I know the economy, but you can't have a thriving economy and a well controlled pandemic. It might have worked with a better controlled opening, which mitigated some of the damage to the economy, without a virtual free for all. More trust in the government's capabilities might have helped too, but we are where we are. What a bloody mess.

ErinBrockovich · 18/09/2020 18:50

@passmethewineplease

Can someone please explain something to me?

They want to go back in to lockdown due to rising numbers but surely the same will happen again after a lockdown?

Is it just going to be lockdowns on and off now for the year?!

Although this time I think they’ll start closing things slowly, like the pubs, then the hairdressers, then the gyms so that all that is left are the schools and key workers.

Please let them keep the schools open. Please.

knittingaddict · 18/09/2020 18:51

Amen to the schools staying open.

MarshaBradyo · 18/09/2020 18:54

Schools and businesses open. Use other stuff as much as possible

There will be a wave, get NHS ready

Southernsoftie76 · 18/09/2020 18:56

I can’t see schools staying open when it’s at its peak, I can’t see teachers turning up to teach when we could be seeing 800 deaths a day again and I don’t blame them.

randomer · 18/09/2020 18:57

OK, and Mr J , your plans are......?

stairway · 18/09/2020 18:59

Well if schools shut they will have to keep key worker provision open.

emmcan · 18/09/2020 19:00

I wonder which lucky lady will become the next lockdown dalliance of the Dear Leader?

I am going to pitch younger than 28, he'll be full of confidence now...

KilljoysDutch · 18/09/2020 19:02

Oh wait a surprise. I won't wait for the apologies from people who called posters saying it would happen "doom mongers" or whatever. Just wish people on here would be a little more realistic than putting people down who can see the inevitable happening.

Schools won't last, not with the way cases are rising so fast as much as I would like them to it's not fair on teachers or the children with vulnerable family members. I think if they bring shielding back in that will see a lot of schools close.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 18/09/2020 19:02

This isn’t a second wave. It is a ripple. Johnson is a twat.

Suzi888 · 18/09/2020 19:03

Israel is in lockdown, imagine it won’t be long. Wish they would do it sooner rather than later, instead of relying on mathematical modelling or whatever it is they useSad
Where are the tests, why are we not prepared. With schools going back, pubs, gyms etc opening, bit of normality , complacency it was obviously going to happen.

whataballbag · 18/09/2020 19:04

I wish they'd just lock down and get it over with. Rather than just waiting for not only the shit to hit the fan but cover us in it like a fucking wheat field

KilljoysDutch · 18/09/2020 19:05

"I bet Andrex are laughing their bollocks off, the feckers."

DH wasn't allowed to buy more than one pack of loo roll in Tesco this morning.

SoManyActivities · 18/09/2020 19:05

I'm feeling nostalgic for the days when everyone was saying 'just you wait, two weeks from now... ' after the street conga-ing on VE Day!

SoManyActivities · 18/09/2020 19:06

This thread has reminded me to chuck another pack of bog roll, a big bag of pasta and some flour into my online Tesco shop!

Southernsoftie76 · 18/09/2020 19:07

@KilljoysDutch yes it was inevitable but there’s still deniers around, you don’t have to look far.......

Ellsbells12 · 18/09/2020 19:08

Why do people start threads like this when we can all see and read the news generally asking

Ellsbells12 · 18/09/2020 19:08

@OverTheRainbow88

I think it’s time To close pubs/restaurants/ bars etc.

We went out for a lovely lunch today, outside and the waiter kept coming really close to us, chatting for ages about nothing even though we weren’t giving long answers, touched my husbands back a few times, put my drink on the table while holding the top bit that I would drink from with his hands, to be fair he was wearing a mask... but wrong so pointless ! Moving around 20
Tables doing the same to all customers.

That is fine if you don't want them to survive jeez
OverTheRainbow88 · 18/09/2020 19:08

@RedToothBrush

They will start on about a third wave!

Teateaandmoretea · 18/09/2020 19:08

And silenced the loons who said there wouldn't be one.

How vile. Some people prefer to keep their cup half full.

Teateaandmoretea · 18/09/2020 19:09

@OverTheRainbow88 I am baffled by your post tbh. If your lunch out was so wrong why do you need the government to tell you this?
