And still more people die from flu with a vaccine than Covid (19) without.
And what would the death rate be from Covid without lockdown and restrictions?
Stinkyguineapig · 19/09/2020 22:58

*But it's sad that you're getting so cross with those who are preparing to work from home and hunker down for the winter. I am one of them, I haven't always been, and I'm very grateful that these days I'm in an industry where I can both work from home and also do a bit of home educating too because it's that flexible. Lots of colleagues and friends are also aware that we are priviliged.

But us not going around shops, going to the pub and travelling to work does mean that it keeps everything safer for those who have no choice. So rather than let an incompetent government encourage us to blame things on each other, let's keep the blame where it firmly belongs - on the people elected and paid to keep us all safe by implementing policies that do that.*

As I said to a pp. I'm not cross that people are wfh (where they have facility to do so) in fact it means theres less people on my trains to work(which is a win for everyone except the train company) However what is frustrating is when (some) people seem to assume everyone has an office based job (and sufficient space at home) that can simply be done remotely, or can afford not to work.

Lots of my more vocal friends on fb that had all the STAY AT HOME memes were the ones who were either SAHM or WFH anyway so had literally nothing to lose by staying at home.

A few days after lockdown there was a pic of a packed tube circulating. No SD and not many people wearing masks. Lots of people commenting at the "selfishness" of all these people.....as if they'd squeezed on to a rush hour train and risked their own health for fun!

becauseIcare · 19/09/2020 23:02

All winter 2020/21/22 we have no immune cells to this so it is going to be around a long time

JBEM4 · 19/09/2020 23:04

What some people misunderstand is that lockdown never has and never will be about eradicating the virus - it's simply to slow down the spread so the NHS aren't overwhelmed.

Those pushing back, ranting and opposing restrictions are the reason the rest of us, who have followed guidelines, will be worse off.

I'm a salon owner and have already had to self isolate for 14 days due to two clients testing positive which means no income at all and have 4 children of which 2 have needed tests (and not unnecessarily).

I can honestly see businesses like mine being closed for an extended period due to the lack of social distancing while the hospitality industry will only have curfews placed on them.

It is what it is but I predicted this exact situation back in July (I'm either a little bit psychic or have enough common sense to stay informed and watch what is unfolding) - I'll be closed by the end of Nov and I'm guessing it'll be for around 3 months before I can resume....

Stay safe all

i do understand your feelings but i feel that Boris has an unenviable task , but he cant seem to do right for doing wrong, I really feel that they are doing what they feel right, whether it is right or not is open to debate but I woud certainly not like Boris`s job

Marlboromanswife · 19/09/2020 23:39

Absolutely this.

bloodynamechangethe3rd · 20/09/2020 00:42

Why the hell are people STILL GOING ON THEIR ‘HOLIDAYS’ I don’t get it. My daughter and neighbour have had this virus and it’s not effing nice, I don’t understand the need to get abroad ASAP, and as someone who is usually on 6/7 foreign holidays by this point of the year I’m still really really struggling to understand the mentality of “well it’s booked and we’re going aren’t we sharon” idiot the lot of them

ohbrightlight · 20/09/2020 00:44

I’ve just spent an hour sobbing with my boyfriend because we can’t see each other from Tuesday because where we live we can’t mix with other households from then.

We have seen each other less than 20 times this year (he works away which doesn’t help as well) and now we have to be apart again

So for fucks sake. Everyone please just do as they are told. It’s hard for everyone but I’m literally stuck in a abusive household and can’t even see the one person in this world who truly loves me.

What still f*&^ing kills me, is that with our Governments love of Brexit, wanting out to keep them durned 'forriners' at bay, they could have closed off our little Island at the beginning of all this until things were more settled...Instead, they continued for months letting people fly in and out, WE'RE A BLOODY ISLAND! We could have been safer than so many other places...
Alas, people opted for a govt that puts money and self before its people, and will happily continue to do so until Boj job buggers off in January, pockets lined, friends all seen too, even his brother is being paid handsomely as part of this Moonshot bo**cks . . . .
Sorry, I'm ranting too, but I have lost one of my dearest friends to this disease, and it kills me to think it could have been so different had we had someone fully competent in charge who actually GAVE a damn!!

Excuse any spelling mishaps, working nights. x

A second wave was inevitable, various factors considered - the primary one being Joe Public's immense stupidity (thinking particularly of the pub-crawler in Bolton.) Same to all those who don't socially distance at present.

We've got no vaccine ready to go, autumn is nearly upon us and with the colder weather comes an inevitable rise in viruses. If Boris puts the brakes on now to halt the rise in cases we may be saved a lot of drama in late autumn/early winter.

The80sweregreat · 20/09/2020 12:47

I've been reading the daily mail comments today about the latest on coronavirus and people will not comply. They don't think it's worth doing any measures and many don't believe the government. There are lots of conspiracy theories and too much cynicism. People want to go back to normal and not do anything : people want to work and carry on.
They really don't care about a second wave because they didn't believe in the first one.
This is not how I see it myself but a read of that site is quite depressing.

SistemaAddict · 20/09/2020 13:15

Sounds about right for the Fail.

souptalk · 20/09/2020 19:22

Most of us are well behaved and taking all this seriously bad sadly they very few who fail to follow the rules or take precautions will end up killing the most vulnerable, whether you call it the second wave or anything else, we are nearly there

My fear is he'll need to wait again. People aren't scared enough to comply yet.
earnshaw47 · 20/09/2020 20:08

i totally agree about folks and their holidays, so so selfish, can they not see the bigger picture, they are alive and well for goodness sake

earnshaw47 · 20/09/2020 20:11

i honestly cant see it working, not because of Boris but the selfish idiots who think they will just do as they like, just today pics of a gathering with crowds of course, something to do with hunting stags , you just cant do anything against human nature

Derbygerbil · 20/09/2020 20:18

And still more people die from flu with a vaccine than Covid (19) without.

Where’s this nonsense come from? Yet more ridiculous and disingenuous twisting of data?

Whitty and Vallance to give public briefing on Covid tomorrow www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/chris-whitty-sir-patrick-vallance-18967633

Aha. Something is afoot if these guys are briefing us in the morning.

wobblywindows · 20/09/2020 22:51

The thing that worries me most is the people who ended up in hospital earlier this year. I've read that their immunity was very short lived, less than 3 months, and some people catch it a second time. This winter, if all the people who had it before end up in hospital again, plus the new severe cases - then the hospital numbers would be worse than first time round.

Guess what I'm saying is, if you had it bad last time, please don't assume that you are now immune.

Just two of them? That is new
SistemaAddict · 20/09/2020 23:04

Looks like it. Maybe they don't want boris's waffle to detract from the message.

MarshaBradyo · 20/09/2020 23:11

Yep just read in other thread same thing. Plus no questions. Feels different and quite serious.

baytreetavern · 21/09/2020 08:01

Does anyone know what time Whitty and Valance will speak?
