The dashboard site is definitely suffering teething problems today on its first day as the “official” site. I can’t seem to get case data by LA as I usually can.

One positive point to note is that England hospital admissions seem to be continuing downwards, despite the rise in cases. 7 day average to 1/8 is around 64 per day, compared with 83 per day a week earlier.

wintertravel1980 · 04/08/2020 19:11

Great, @PatriciaHolm, thank you very much!

MRex · 04/08/2020 19:14

Do you mean the map @Frazzled2207? Last time I looked that was for last week up to 26th, it's only being updated weekly.

Me neither - its very patchy. DP's LA exists with data, mine no longer has any!

I think @Frazzled2207 is after the consolidated daily file that contains the detailed breakdown of cases by date of specimen by LA. It is useful to have all the data in one spreadsheet instead of having to navigate through the dashboard.

Right now it looks like we can get individual LA CSV reports using the "localisation" option but it is not clear if there is a way to produce a consolidated view.

Firefliess · 04/08/2020 19:21

@Frazzled. The LA level data is I think by date of sample, so always tends to show zeros for the most recent few days.

PatriciaHolm · 04/08/2020 19:24

...and the number of people actually in hospital continues steadily down too. 737 today, over 868 last Tuesday (England).

@wintertravel1980 - do you mean from the old official site the "coronavirus-latest_(number) that had a csv download link under the map?

If so I think it is now coronavirus.data.gov.uk/about-data and scroll down to legacy downloads - cases

Frazzled2207 · 04/08/2020 19:57

thanks all, yeah am aware that the map is only updated weekly.

Unless I'm missing something there is no clear way of seeing the new number of cases per day attributed to a particular area? Because the data for the last 5-6 days basically changes every day.

However just seen something which has clarified something I was wondering earlier.

"Cases are allocated to the person's area of residence."

I thought they might be attributed to the actual place where the test took place.

wintertravel1980 · 04/08/2020 19:59

Thanks, boys3. This is exactly what I have been looking for!

boys3 · 04/08/2020 20:02

Having downloaded the latest full CSV file I think it fair to say PHE (it is their website, if not apologies) did not trouble themselves with any basic testing before release

At least 100 LAs in England not appearing either on the dashboard or the full download file option.

Seriously should we ask MNHQ to get someone from PHE for a live chat about data? they might learn something I mean we might learn something

boys3 · 04/08/2020 20:03

@wintertravel1980 - I'd hold fire, see my x-post; lots of LAs missing from that file

YoshimisMum · 04/08/2020 20:04

Does anyone know why our LTA Oadby & Wigston has disappeared/NA on the new dashboard?

The latest ONS report may not show excess deaths - but in a year that was consistently below the 5 year average at the start of the year going back up towards the average means higher deaths than I'd expect. Still the figures can bounce around a bit so lets wait and see what next week's figures look like.

itsgettingweird · 04/08/2020 20:05
Grin
sleepwhenidie · 04/08/2020 20:05

It seems even Worldometers is confused by the deaths figure as it has the cases but a blank box for deaths in the uk at the moment! Never seen that before for the UK.

itsgettingweird · 04/08/2020 20:06

That grin was to boys we chat with PHE

YoshimisMum · 04/08/2020 20:06

Ah - just noticed others are saying it's not the only one!

PatriciaHolm · 04/08/2020 20:06

@YoshimisMum - as @boys3 says, there are a lot missing. Mine is too, and I'm pretty sure it still exists ;-) The underlying data seems to have a bunch of gaps at the moment, as a result of them moving it all over to their new API today I think. Hopefully they will sort it quickly...

@PatriciaHolm
Thank you - just getting a bit 'twitchy' as we've only just come out of lockdown!

MRex · 04/08/2020 20:12

@Frazzled2207 - I don't know. Still no new cases near me since June thankfully, so I don't have a reference point to notice specific numbers.

Frazzled2207 · 04/08/2020 20:15

@MRex
Think I've sorted it possibly, I'll make a note of the cumulative number for today in my area and then see how much it has gone up by tomorrow and so on!

Firefliess · 04/08/2020 20:31

Yes that ought to work @frazzled if you're wanting to know how many of the cases reported each day are in your area.

My area appears as normal but the neighbouring local authority does not. Would love to harrass speak to PHE about the data, but fear they would probably only engage with MN over something more "mumsy" like schools opening, which I'm personally quite sick of speculation about.

HoldingTight · 04/08/2020 20:33

Lambeth has disappeared too

Fairineouf · 04/08/2020 20:45

Does anyone know if Spain has had a 'catch-up' day today? Cases are up by 5760 and deaths by 26 - that's quite a big leap from their usual reporting.
