I know there is an announcement on Sunday but I thought there had to be one today regarding lockdown? Watching the daily briefing but Boris isn't even doing it.

They have said all week it will be Sunday evening. Today’s briefing seems to be pointing out that any changes will be slow and steady changes

icelollycraving · 07/05/2020 17:10

Sunday is when we know more. I find it more stressful waiting tbh!

SWemily · 07/05/2020 17:11

I understand obviously we still have to stick to the rules but I'm worried if Dominic doesn't actually say out loud "stay home" that people will use any excuse to act like lockdown is over till Sunday lol!

HeartZone · 07/05/2020 17:12

I agree rose I thought three week limit so had to release news.
Chomping at the bit here!

Mooserp · 07/05/2020 17:12

I thought they had to give an update today, being 3 weeks from the last one.

LIZS · 07/05/2020 17:13

Cabinet were reviewing today not announcing changes. It seems likely to be a phased return from lockdown, probably little will change immediately.

cantdothisnow1 · 07/05/2020 17:13

I think this is frankly ridiculous.
Just before a bank holiday there needs to be a CLEAR message.

RhymingRabbit3 · 07/05/2020 17:14

Interesting that the two lots of (three week lockdown) have somehow added up to 7 weeks...

FlyLight · 07/05/2020 17:14

This is so bloody vague!

sunnie1992 · 07/05/2020 17:15

They will renew the lockdown today - and announce that - and then announce slow release on Sunday.

Today is just the legal piece. They have to review it and they need to renew the lockdown in order for it to still be in place this weekend.

CeeJay81 · 07/05/2020 17:16

In Wales the school's aren't opening in June. No idea about England yet though.

Mooserp · 07/05/2020 17:18

He has now confirmed lockdown still in place

How many times can he say roadmap?

Jojoanna · 07/05/2020 17:19

There’s no change

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 07/05/2020 17:22

They wont announce an easing right before a bank holiday weekend. People will just think oh what difference will 2 days make? and go out en masse like they did on mothers day.

WhiteChocTwix · 07/05/2020 17:24

@icelollycraving

I agree with you 100%! How much more evidence are they going to get between now and Sunday... especially given it's a bank holiday weekend? (genuine question).

radiantrose · 07/05/2020 17:27

I didn't think there would be. For me not much has changed compared to some people as I'm still going out to work everyday (which I'm grateful for) but DH works in Scotland so concerned now it seems they're taking different paths how long he's going to be out of work for unpaid and we're now at a point where we are really struggling.

OP posts:
FlyLight · 07/05/2020 17:28

They know the death rate will have been low for three days following a bank holiday and a weekend so whatever they propose will seem more reasonable - or maybe I'm cynical!

radiantrose · 07/05/2020 17:29

Do you think we will hear no easing of restriction from Nicola until the next 3 weeks are up since she has extended the lockdown?

OP posts:
Cheesefiend36 · 07/05/2020 17:30

The bloody journalists!! Last week, "why are you treating the British public like idiots, just tell us what the releasing of restrictions will look like, people will still stick to the rules"

Today - "why are you saying that next week we will likely see some easing if restrictions but are telling the public that they must stay at home still, isn't this confusing for them, how can they possibly stay at home?"

Good god!!

midgebabe · 07/05/2020 17:32

If you read a variety of threads on here you can see that a lot of people seem to think restrictions are about to be significantly lifted

Mulhollandmagoo · 07/05/2020 17:33

@radiantrose that came up in conversation between me and my husband today as his brother lives in England but works in Scotland and it's a worry that the two governments often struggle to work together so hope that's clearly laid out 🤞 I do think there is a distinct lack of info based on the fact that we have a bank holiday weekend coming up and supposedly beautiful weather so any relaxation of the rules right now could cause chaos

Peppafrig · 07/05/2020 17:36

@radiantrose Nicola seemed pretty adamant she won't be pressured by the UK government to lift lockdown before it is safe for the Scottish people. So I don't think she will be lifting restrictions anytime soon . But she did say she will review it again this time next week .

FlyLight · 07/05/2020 17:36

No wonder people think it's over!

Is there no announcement today then?
FlyLight · 07/05/2020 17:37

Argh meant to be a picture!

Is there no announcement today then?
TillysMum02 · 07/05/2020 17:38

It’s going to be a free for all this weekend!

Barbecues, pools, charcoal all selling out today at work. Fine for own garden use but I was suspicious of the amount of disposable barbecues going through the tills!
