Is there no announcement today then?

I know there is an announcement on Sunday but I thought there had to be one today regarding lockdown? Watching the daily briefing but Boris isn't even doing it.

Oh my god what is going on with the mass amount of aggressive posters lately! Absolutely no need what so ever. Blows my mind all the keyboard warriors who are, what I assume, grown adults. Shameful and embarrassing behaviour!

Our gutter press out in full force. What an embarrassment

radiantrose · 07/05/2020 21:24

@R1R2 'So get back in your fucking homes and stay there until told otherwise. Is that clear enough?'

Who on earth do you think you are talking like that? Would you speak to someone in the street like that? I don't know who you are referring to, but I posted this before they said anything in the daily briefing and was asking a simple question as I had read multiple times they would mention lockdown today, it certainly didn't warrant some of the comment on here. Get off your high horse.

CrowCat · 07/05/2020 21:33

They're making us wait until after bank holiday weekend so people don't all suddenly think they can rush out to the seaside.

R1R2 · 07/05/2020 22:18

Yes id tell them straight to their stupid faces hth

radiantrose · 07/05/2020 22:35

@R1R2 You wouldn't though would you? I sincerely hope you don't bring up any children to talk to people in the same way you do. It's repulsive. You still have not clarified who you were aiming your aggression towards, there was nothing that warranted your comments. Maybe have another read through the guidelines? Pour yourself a glass of wine and calm yourself down?

OP posts:
stretchedmarks · 07/05/2020 22:45

@R1R2

Stop, you're embarrassing yourself

Goatymcgoaty · 07/05/2020 22:54

The newsreader said on the bbc 10 o’clock news that legally lockdown has been extended for 3 weeks. Bizarre that that wasn’t mentioned in the briefing? What are they playing at?

FlyLight · 07/05/2020 23:05

Exactly goaty no mention of three weeks at all, just keep going until Sunday. Already seeing social media posts from those who think it's basically over and are planning get togethers etc.

Becca19962014 · 07/05/2020 23:09

crowcat well that hasn't worked here at least.

MrsP2015 · 07/05/2020 23:15

I was exactly the same as you op- waiting/ watching live to hear rules but it seemed quite a wishy washy message.

I think it sends out there will be great big changes to gatherings etc so I expect people will meet up in large groups over the next 3 days.

In reality I expect a small change and people to be shocked at how slight the change is- I actually agree with this though.

Someone on here said there will be a massive spike in a couple of weeks and I totally agree.

R1R2 · 07/05/2020 23:18

Bore off with the moral superior nonesense Radiant. It's quite obvious the post is for all those people who despite not being told the lockdown is over seem to think it is. Look around you there are plenty off them.

radiantrose · 07/05/2020 23:26

I haven't seen any comments on here from people who think the lockdown is over now, not from me and not from anyone else who has commented. Your post sounded like it was directed at people who have posted here. Your directing your anger in the wrong place.

Every thread I've read lately has always had a few posters who show aggression and anger on I really just don't see the need for it.

OP posts:
fourpeasinapod · 07/05/2020 23:45

Yeah the amount of people being nasty on MN is ridiculous

fourpeasinapod · 07/05/2020 23:47

@R1R2 no need for that level of rudeness!

confusedandtired99 · 08/05/2020 00:05

Personally I think they are doing this on purpose. They want people to mingle over the weekend to see what happens to the infection rate in two weeks... that way when lockdown is due to be reviewed again in three weeks they will have more data in regards to easing lockdown; and if it’s likely to bring a surge in the infection rate.

I think it’s calculated incompetence to manipulate the public.

MrsP2015 · 08/05/2020 00:37

@confusedandtired99 never even thought of that!

But what a great way to test it out then if it's a big spike, throw it back at the public saying it wasn't condoned by government. If no spike I doubt they'd refer to it.

RingPiece · 08/05/2020 01:57

Three streets away are having a VE street party Friday afternoon. No social distancing. Road closed to cars. Some people are making food for their neighbours and there's going to be a big barbeque in the middle of the road for all to enjoy.
Earlier today, all the double decker buses that went passed when I was on my run were absolutely jam packed with people. All seats filled, people standing up just like a busy Saturday afternoon.
In the park, two separate groups of tennagers, ten or so in each group, were drinking and listening to music.

Even my lovely local deli has stopped restricting people coming in. It was packed, as was the newsagents.
I am genuinely shocked that so many people have just stopped following social distancing rules.
It's made me want to stay inside and not go out even to exercise.

...but, yes, I agree that it's a calculated move by the government to test what happens when the rules are officially relaxed.

VimtoCordial · 08/05/2020 07:35

Also agree that this is deliberate by the government. They want people to mix. I've never been convinced that they ever abandoned their herd immunity idea, just got it under the radar.

Michelleoftheresistance · 08/05/2020 10:40

Just posted on another thread: there was a street distanced party planned here, all people in their front gardens and neighbours that we said we'd participate in. However the street is full of cars and family turning up, kids are playing in the street and these are neighbours who have been responsible and careful throughout. We've got two vulnerable people in this household, I'm starting to want to skip the whole neighbourhood thing this afternoon as I can see any social distancing at all is going to be in the fuckit bucket in another hour or two. Bloody newspapers and bloody vague, dithery government.

Michelleoftheresistance · 08/05/2020 10:44

What's that quote about never attribute to intent what you can attribute to incompetence?

Need to send Boris one of those 'I'm their leader, which way did they go?' t shirts.

Nonnymum · 08/05/2020 10:53

The message is still loud and clear, stay home! What are people struggling to understand, why are you saying Raab wasnt clear?
Sorry but I don't think he was. The PM started all this hype by saying there would be some easing up on Monday. I don't think he meant to say it actually Because I doubt there will be much easing up. But some people and especially the tabloids have latched onto it as meaning lockdown will end.
There is no reason for him to make an address to the nation on Sunday night or to trail it on Wednesday. He should have just published a paper with his 'road map' on Monday. And announced it in the Commons. Announcing he would make an announcement has caused this mess.
Yesterday Raab should have just said lockdown will continue for another 3vweeks. Instead he kept mentioning that the PM would make an aniuncmentbon Sunday. He also quoted a different R from the scientista.
The R has actually increased, the number of deaths is still 600+a day and the number of new cases in their thousands.
I know everyone is frustrated but if we come out too soon we will soon be back in the same position as in March or perhaps even worse. And another lockdown will be inevitable that will be even worse for the economy, and people's mental and physical health.

Primetoes · 08/05/2020 10:59

Something I’ve read that is meant to be from Monday is ‘encourage employees back to workplaces that have stayed open during the lockdown’

If they’ve stayed open then who has been running them and why do employees need to be encouraged to go back? Does that mean all us who have worked from home for our businesses that have stayed open? Because I guarantee you that will be how my employer will interpret it as they hate the fact we are WFH

BarbaraofSeville · 08/05/2020 11:24

But some people and especially the tabloids have latched onto it as meaning lockdown will end

Some of the tabloids also think that Princess Diana is still alive and we're going to have the hottest summer ever closely followed by a winter colder than Russia pretty much every year, doesn't make it true.

You'd have to be an idiot to interpret 'some gradual easing of lockdown from Monday' as anything like back to normal, or that it's OK to spend this weekend partying. People who work in offices are going to be at home for months.

Exactly what DH and I have been saying the past few days. They know a large proportion of the people they govern are absolute half wits that can't follow instruction and this moronism will have been factored into the exit strategy.

I could be giving the government far more credit than they deserve however!
