Is there no announcement today then?

I know there is an announcement on Sunday but I thought there had to be one today regarding lockdown? Watching the daily briefing but Boris isn't even doing it.

OP posts:
Pipandmum · 07/05/2020 17:38

How clear do they have to be? 'No changes currently to the lockdown measures' seems crystal clear to me.

butterpuffed · 07/05/2020 17:38

They wont announce an easing right before a bank holiday weekend. People will just think oh what difference will 2 days make? and go out en masse like they did on mothers day.

Exactly. As soon as the Government even mentions that there may be relaxing of restrictions, many people take it as carte blanche that they can immediately go out.

I'm by the beach, it's been deserted for weeks ~ today , loads of people around. Over the side road from me, three motorbikes parked and a group of six bikers chatting. I could practically cross our main road blindfold the last few weeks , today the traffic's virtually back to normal. Angry

BiggerBoat1 · 07/05/2020 17:40

I think its massively irresponsible. The Government are hinting at easing the lockdown just before a sunny bank holiday and Raab isn't giving any clear messages today. Where is Boris and why have they made this vague announcement about a road map for coming our of lockdown without giving any details or really stressing that all rules still apply right now. It seems such stupid timing.

Roselilly36 · 07/05/2020 17:41

Sunday is when Boris will make the announcement according to the press. Am shielded till 30 June so any eased measures won’t be appropriate for me. I hope everyone can get back to living soon, but only if safe to do so.

OldLace · 07/05/2020 17:44

What was the point of today's briefing?
Do the Govt WANT people to break lockdown over the weekend?
FFS.

JemimaPuddleCat · 07/05/2020 17:47

@radiantrose

It has been made clear in speeches the past few days that although a further 3 week review has been put in place, that doesn't mean they can't make changes within the time scale if the science points towards it being possible. All the FMs speeches are available to read on the gov.scot website

jinxpixie · 07/05/2020 17:52

Well that press conference has successfully killed another load of British people

Inkpaperstars · 07/05/2020 17:56

Surely it's basic that any changes have to be announced without warning, mentioning that 'something' will happen next week just leads to dangerous speculation and confusion.

I thought Raab was reasonably clear that currently all the restrictions are still in place, but he could have been clearer, and in any case the damage is done by Boris dropping hints.

BiggerBoat1 · 07/05/2020 17:58

@jinxpixie agreed.

This shitshow just hit a whole new level. Boris nowhere to be seen. The tabloids shouting about an end to lockdown. A load of waffle from Raab and a sunny bank holiday weekend on the horizon.

Ifeel1000yearsold · 07/05/2020 17:59

Ridiculously unclear press conference today. Also it should have been Boris. First time in weeks I found myself shouting at the TV.

FlamingoAndJohn · 07/05/2020 18:00

Just before a bank holiday there needs to be a CLEAR message.

I don’t know which bit of ‘stay in your house’ isn’t clear.

SoupDragon · 07/05/2020 18:02

Well that press conference has successfully killed another load of British people

No, their own stupidity will kill them.

cantdothisnow1 · 07/05/2020 18:03

@FlamingoAndJohn

Before the press questions Rabb did not state that the current lockdown measures should remain in place.

It was patently unclear.

Ifeel1000yearsold · 07/05/2020 18:04

He didn’t say before the first question whether it was extended today unless I missed it as was also juggling feeding baby. That wasn’t clear. And the stupid hinting at what’s to come. Say it or don’t.

JemimaPuddleCat · 07/05/2020 18:04

I'm looking for the transcript of today's UK Gov press conference. Do they not upload it each day on the website?

Cerealkillers · 07/05/2020 18:05

Seemed perfectly clear to me, no changes to lockdown. Any changes from Monday will be small and incremental, we are approaching with caution. Whether some people choose to ignore this because the tabloids are idiots hinting towards it all being over now with their ridiculous headlines remains to be seen.

Giraffey1 · 07/05/2020 18:05

Government is legally obliged to review the lockdown by today, they are not obliged to announce / change anything.

JemimaPuddleCat · 07/05/2020 18:06

Can I point out that at no point was it suggested that any lockdown would be for a specific length of time, requiring extension as needed. Was it not said that lockdown is in effect from now, and we will review that after three weeks?

RunningNinja79 · 07/05/2020 18:08

How many times can he say roadmap?

Didn't watch it, but if I watch it on catch up or whatever will I get drunk if I take a shot of vodka each time? Grin

BlueBrian · 07/05/2020 18:08

All that's going to happen is a bunch of idiots will ignore all the rules over the weekend, and in two weeks time there'll be a massive spike, and the lockdown will extended again.

CyberPixie · 07/05/2020 18:09

It'll be similar to you can go outside to exercise more than once a day, picnic in the park and can go to outdoor beauty spots for walks as long as social distancing is maintained. Or something along those lines. It's far too early to do anything more.

Becca19962014 · 07/05/2020 18:09

It's already a free for all where I am. Hearing things like "free holiday on the government" and "let's party while we can as its over Monday" I'm seeing vulnerable people who should be sheilding (think on mobile oxygen units) have also given up. Everyone's talking about lockdown being over on Monday.

Police are putting all over social media for people to stay put.
They aren't. They cant cope with everyone out and about right now. First day in ages I've not been stopped, because they're too busy (I'm not complaining!). We have beaches in our county and apparently that's been full of people with police there too but there's just too many people. Papers full of lockdown being over.

Yet again we have shops running out of food because our idiotic council and local rag decided to put all over social media how safe it is here - now they've changed their minds after a lot of local people jumped on them to pack it in as social media isn't only for locals.

Too late now.

Yesterday and today the queues for food were huge.

Our PM is a moron (no offence to morons!) for making that statement yesterday. You make plans, then implement on that day not make some half arsed reference to removing some restrictions (only ones still in place here are shops being closed) on Monday as everyone has interpreted that as lockdown being over.

Ifeel1000yearsold · 07/05/2020 18:09

But isn’t the three weeks up today?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 07/05/2020 18:09

They couldn't have issued a relaxing message today, just before a BH weekend. Everyone and their dog would have taken it as a clear message that they could go out and about, picnics and barbeques everywhere, groups of people, etc. They have done the right thing.

Becca19962014 · 07/05/2020 18:10

Sorry only restrictions being observed that should say.
