Is there no announcement today then?

I know there is an announcement on Sunday but I thought there had to be one today regarding lockdown? Watching the daily briefing but Boris isn't even doing it.

milktray but that's exactly what people are doing anyway here!

jinxpixie · 07/05/2020 18:11

Well that press conference has successfully killed another load of British people

No, their own stupidity will kill them. Ok lets tell that to the medics losing their lives looking after them

Ifeel1000yearsold · 07/05/2020 18:13

But all they needed to say was we have extended it to Monday. Clear and to the point. They didn’t say that until questioned.

Inkpaperstars · 07/05/2020 18:13

Whereabouts are you Becca? Sorry if you have said or if you don't want to, don't worry. It seems to be patches all over anyway.

Becca19962014 · 07/05/2020 18:14

that's the point isn't it? It's not going to "only" kill idiots but other vulnerable people too; along with those reading today's rags about how lockdown is over and thinking that's the case and ending their sheilding.

Totally irresponsible.

redsky75 · 07/05/2020 18:14

It was not clear that the stay at home message is still to be adhered to this weekend. If anyone wants to see it being done properly then watch back the Scottish Government briefing by NS from any day this week - clear, concise and confident. All qualities that were severely lacking in the UK one today, what a shambles.

Becca19962014 · 07/05/2020 18:17

ink rural Wales. We've had hot weather almost all week as well. So it's not only tourists out and about but locals too.

ChavvySexPond · 07/05/2020 18:18

They are required to review today - not tell us.

FlamingoAndJohn · 07/05/2020 18:18

Before the press questions Rabb did not state that the current lockdown measures should remain in place.

It was patently unclear.

I’m willing to bet he also didn’t say ‘don’t hit yourself in the dick with a hammer’.
There is no need to say it because it should be bloody obvious.
Why would anyone think anything was changing?

twinnywinny14 · 07/05/2020 18:21

The message is loud and clear as it’s the same one we move had in place for the last 7wks!! We have known all week there would be no announcement until Sunday- not sure why this is the case though? Ppl are assuming it’s because the measures are going to be relaxed but they don’t want to do that today when bank holiday is tomorrow but that assumption is making ppl go out anyway. It doesn’t help that Boris said measures will come in to play on Monday, ppl are guessing what they will be and doing it now anyway

cantdothisnow1 · 07/05/2020 18:22

why would anyone think anything was changing

People think it is changing because of what has been over the headlines of British Newspapers and because Boris announced yesterday that it will be changing and he will be announcing the changes on Sunday.

People all already out and about more locally to me since he said that yesterday!

As someone said upthread if you want to compare and contrast with a clear stay at home message look at the Scottish First Minister's press conference.

Chanel05 · 07/05/2020 18:22

I thought it was abundantly clear. If it had even been hinted at that lockdown would look different on Monday then the bank holiday and warm weather would encourage idiots to adopt the attitude that they can do whatever they like over the next three days.

Inkpaperstars · 07/05/2020 18:22

Thanks Becca

I am shocked there are tourists, crikey.

JemimaPuddleCat · 07/05/2020 18:23

It is perfectly clear! There's a lockdown in place - there are rules - It will remain in place until you are told otherwise.

How do some people even manage to function day to day without someone following them reminding them to breathe/eat/look before crossing the road?

FreakStar · 07/05/2020 18:23

GRRRRRR!!!!! Those newspapers make me so angry! Lies! They need serious regulations! It shouldn't be allowed!

redsky75 · 07/05/2020 18:23

Flamingo...yes they do need to keep saying it, there are people out there who will only hear what they want to hear. There will be people who are genuinely confused. It needs to be crystal clear. It looked like he was actively trying not to say it today!

Itisasecret · 07/05/2020 18:24

It wasn’t clear, people in this country generally need stuff spelling out to them. Especially when the rags in this country are telling people it is all over. These people don’t watch the daily briefing where Raab says it’s all lies in the press. They look at the pretty coloured headlines and the pictures of women with bikinis on the front pages. The cases will rise and the press acting irresponsibly will lead to more death and cases in a few weeks.

FlamingoAndJohn · 07/05/2020 18:25

People think it is changing because of what has been over the headlines of British Newspapers and because Boris announced yesterday that it will be changing and he will be announcing the changes on Sunday.

Yes, on Sunday. I might be confused but today isn’t Sunday.
The papers were hugely irresponsible but he did say that the changed on Sunday were not going to be what the papers say.

JemimaPuddleCat · 07/05/2020 18:27

news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-lockdown-changes-will-be-modest-and-small-says-dominic-raab-11984752

Mr Raab also said the existing rules would still apply over the coming bank holiday weekend.

He added: "For the moment it is really important, particularly as people look towards a warm bank holiday weekend, that we continue to follow the guidance in place at this time."

Is that true? Did he say that?

knittingaddict · 07/05/2020 18:28

FlyLight and that is why I stopped reading papers some time ago. How irresponsible can you get.

cantdothisnow1 · 07/05/2020 18:29

Flamingo a government has a duty to give a message which is clear, to the point and not open to any form of interpretation.

No matter how much you wish to defend the government and YOU feel it was clear, others will not and will be looking for any excuse to breach the lockdown. This is already happening.

Important messages should be communicated as though you are dealing with the lowest common denominator, you should not assume a level of knowledge or awareness from your audience.

Becca19962014 · 07/05/2020 18:29

Today isn't Sunday. Today is Thursday, but it's just a couple of days before so nothing wrong with "just us" having a bit of fun breaking lockdown early. Today was also the day announcements were expected regarding lockdown anyway so thanks to his idiotic announcement yesterday people have added two and two and got twenty two.

Except "just us" is most people round here.

cantdothisnow1 · 07/05/2020 18:30

Jemima I think he did when answering the questions rather than in the original statement before the press questions.

Becca19962014 · 07/05/2020 18:30

My neighbours are currently throwing an end of lockdown party ffs.

Goatymcgoaty · 07/05/2020 18:31

Did he say when the lockdown has legally been extended to? Is it Monday? I didn’t catch that part - I was thinking we’re worse off than before, still in lockdown, but at the moment we have no end date in sight.
