Is there something else going on

I’m sorry if this is in the wrong place, I can’t think of the right section to put it. I can’t shake the feeling that something deeper is going on here. I’m not sure if it’s my anxiety talking and the fact I have a lot more time to sit and think about it but I can’t get it out of my head. I am thinking something devastating to the planet, asteroid collision or something, with corona as a cover up to avoid mass hysteria in our final days. Why are they still launching Starlink when the rest of the world has completely shut down? Where is all this money coming from that the government is throwing around seemingly without a care to how we will pay it back. Why are they so unbothered by so many members of society who stand to lose everything if we stay shut down for much longer (pubs, leisure industry, travel/holidays, weddings etc). Why do we keep hearing about empty hospitals, bored staff and the empty Nightingale hospitals? Why are we stopping ALL planned surgery’s seemingly disregarding the health of everybody apart from corona sufferers. No plans for if/how/when our children will go back to school. I just can’t get my head around it.

How are you a crackpot though just because you don't buy the narrative?
It's perfectly ok and normal to question things, after all who made anyone your boss?
Why do people feel the need to say 'I'm not a crackpot' before they say something?
People can have their own ideas.

Russellbrandshair · 23/04/2020 22:46

Conspiracy theorists always vastly overestimate what any government is actually capable of

Lol this. They can’t even order PPE that isn’t defective, the idea they’d have the intelligence and panache and sheer fox like cunning to fool us all is laughable.
I must admit though I am getting sick and tired of this feeling that only people who have died of covid “matter”. If you die of other things no one seems to give a shit.

Baconisgoodformeee · 23/04/2020 22:46

If an asteroid was about to hit earth they’d probably just find our best deep sea drillers and send them up with a nuclear bomb to blow it up... long story short, it would be fine

RuffleCrow · 23/04/2020 22:47

There are the old WW2 cabinet war rooms a few hundred metres from Downing Street afaik - big concrete thing I remember seeing on a school trip. @Daybyday89

Tdaadfb100 · 23/04/2020 22:47

Look up Rockefeller Lockstep.

sobeyondthehills · 23/04/2020 22:47

Actually the conspiracy theorists I have talked to think that the government has massively over reacted

Then there was something about the new world order and I must admit I tuned out.

I do choose to pick and choose my conspiracy theories, my fav one is the guy on the plane with the spirit level proving the world is flat.

emptyplinth · 23/04/2020 22:49

Hi op I actually felt a lot like that a few days back, and that's not normal for me.
There are so many things happening that are different that it's easy to lose track of the fact that plenty of things are just carrying on.
Plus it's hard when you have young kids, you have to be strong for them too.
Take care of yourself and try focus on the positives. Flowers

Confusedasusual78 · 23/04/2020 22:51

I also think there’s something odd about it all, not an asteroid though.

cupcakehurricane101 · 23/04/2020 22:52

It's the same level as 9/11 was an inside job all over again. Sigh.

kingofkings · 23/04/2020 22:55

It is massive over thinking anxiety and lots of thinking errors thrown in. Why think of another cause of the crisis when we already have a cause?

user765 · 23/04/2020 22:58

I think mainly the government was not prepared and no one really knows and is just trying to predict what will happen based on statistics, which a lot of the time are flawed.

I’m not really in to conspiracy theories but the one thought at the back of my mind is the possibility this virus did originate due to scientists developing biological warfare. A while back the Russians crossed Ebola with small pox in order to create a highly contagious and deadly virus.

Another elephant in the room is of course climate change and the government don’t really seem to have acknowledged this, although maybe they have their hands full just trying to deal with it all. Again, I’m not an eco warrior and shamefully drive a deisel car, but one reason among many why respitory viruses are common in China is due to the climate - mild wet weather, much like the winter we have had in the UK. The Earth does have a funny way of ‘sorting out’ its problems, and now smog is clearing and the ozone is supposedly repairing itself.

Janaih · 23/04/2020 23:02

@cupcakehurricane101 my saying "I'm not a crackpot" was a simpsons reference. But I just meant I dont spend time watching long winded YouTube vids about conspiracy theories and post pics of "chemtrails" on Facebook.

saraclara · 23/04/2020 23:02

You might have a point if only our country was hit by this. But not only would you need our government hiding its secret agenda incredibly well, but every other government in the world (is there any country still with no cases?)

C'mon now. You know it's impossible for that to happen.

notsureneversure · 23/04/2020 23:02

Also, they're not that organised.

This is so true. Successive Tory governments have shown themselves incapable of organising a piss-up in a brewery. Unless it was all a cunning front? Grin

But seriously OP, I can imagine why you might be feeling like this. I think it's probably a lot easier to imagine that someone, anyone is actually in control of this situation and there's a [hu]man-made reason behind it, rather than what it really is: something that's out of our control.

Times are really tough for all of us right now, in different ways and to varying degrees.

On another note, Starlink pisses me off somewhat. Elon Musk doesn't own the sky. Why is a company allowed to just put stuff up in our sky where we can all see it? Doesn't the night sky belong to everyone?

cupcakehurricane101 · 23/04/2020 23:03

Exactly! I calculated last night because I'm a genius, that given the current apparent death rates of paranoid virus 19, that 97% of people ARE OK!
I know this because I worship the crystal God crystal of God's worth worshipping.

cupcakehurricane101 · 23/04/2020 23:06

I find conspiracy people just as annoying as the PETA extremists tbh

MiniTheMinx · 23/04/2020 23:08

user765 perhaps it was extinction rebellion, they are mad and misguided enough to jump on trains, or Vegans. I suspect it could be vegans Grin. The number of pro-vegan adverts in my FB feed is growing exponentially with the death rates.

Mischance · 23/04/2020 23:08

Really - all these conspiracy theories are no help at all. And meaningless. Please relax and put them out of your mind. Pandemics circulate about every century and are part of the cycle of the world.

I have been reading a history book today and the plague in the 17th century was mentioned - the measures to keep people safe were almost exactly what we are doing now! - word for word, in archaic language.

So.....it is nothing new. It is a total pain, but it will pass. We just have to do the right tings to protect the vulnerable and sit it out. Please do not worry.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 23/04/2020 23:09

I am a cynic and love a good conspiracy but I don’t think it’s something like this. I just don’t. For one, how would it help?! Much better to spend our last days with normal life

cupcakehurricane101 · 23/04/2020 23:09

@Mischance most sensible reply today

cupcakehurricane101 · 23/04/2020 23:10

What do you mean our last days?!! 👀🙉

B1rdbra1n · 23/04/2020 23:11

There will always be groups who try to exploit a crisis and turn it their advantage

MiniTheMinx · 23/04/2020 23:13

cupcakehurricane101 to think I actually supported the Anti-Vivisectionists once, I grew up and read Marx.

I really don't think the government is capable of conspiring to anything beyond maintaining the status quo.

Rosehip10 · 23/04/2020 23:13

Get yer tin foil hat on.

Rosehip10 · 23/04/2020 23:18

@mynameiscalypso It's comforting that even organisations with some of the world's best scientists and engineers are struggling with the same crap tech (and crap users who don't mute) that we all are!
