Sorry I know it's the sun but it says the Balearics think we were too late to lockdown so may not let us holiday there.

@WhyCantIthinkOfAgoodOne

I never take cheap flights.

YesThatIsMyRealName · 23/04/2020 21:45

@DBML Good for you, here's a medal.

DBML · 23/04/2020 21:54

@Yesthatismyrealname

Thank you 😊

The last I heard, Spanish hoteliers plan on a full reopening Easter 2021.

MLMsuperfan · 24/04/2020 00:12

I thought that Brexit meant that Europe couldn't tell us what to do any more?

ladybee28 · 24/04/2020 08:59

I thought that Brexit meant that Europe couldn't tell us what to do any more?

Aaaaaah thanks, @MLMsuperfan - that gave me a good laugh Grin

Like when you leave your husband and tell him and all your mutual friends that he's a horrible prick, and he doesn't want you just popping into his house to take a nice hot bath whenever you fancy it....

"You can't tell me what to do any more, we're not married. I'll use your stuff whenever I want!"

sanealaddin · 24/04/2020 09:15

MLMSuperfan very funny, made me chuckle

thejollygargler · 24/04/2020 09:24

@MLMsuperfan

Please tell us that you are being ironic!

Chillipeanuts · 24/04/2020 09:26

This August?

No-one will be flying anywhere on holiday.

DBML · 24/04/2020 10:38

There’s a great big beautiful tomorrow to look forward to. It’ll be bigger and better than ever before. Stay positive all x

Notredamn · 24/04/2020 10:43

I think it's wildly optimistic/deluded to even think about a foreign holiday this year considering we can't even go outside and sit in our local parks ffs. Write it off.

DBML · 24/04/2020 10:46

@Notredamn

But it’s not doing any harm is it?
Why are people so against others having hope to go on their holidays?

If I’m staying optimistic for August, it isn’t affecting you.

Kazzyhoward · 24/04/2020 10:58

Even if flights are operating (highly unlikely) and hotels are open (even more unlikely), nothing else will be open. I've been out of season to med resorts - they're mostly ghost towns. Shops, restaurants, cafes, etc mostly closed except a small number catering for the locals and expats living there, so nothing for tourists. Pretty miserable places really until you get back to the season and everything opening up again.

Notredamn · 24/04/2020 12:21

@DBML hope all you want, but it's hardly surprising to note that it's not going to happen in the circumstances. We're in the grip of a deadly global virus, a few people's wishes to have a nice little holiday and spread it around another country isn't going to overrule how another government is handling their national emergency.
I'm looking forward to next year's holiday instead....and the little things like being able to go and have a coffee somewhere in my own town.

DBML · 24/04/2020 12:26

@Notredamn

And I’ve no problem with you doing that.

But if my flight to Florida goes ahead, I’ll be going. And until it’s cancelled I can hope.

When and if it is cancelled, I’ll accept that and book to go just as soon as I can. No problems.

Notredamn · 24/04/2020 12:27

Good for you.

HoldMyLobster · 24/04/2020 15:27

A nice taste of future travel?

It looks no different to past travel. To be honest, once schools are back and businesses are open, social distancing is not going to be consistently adhered to anyway.

I’ve just popped to Tesco. It’s busier than it has been and no one was using the one-way system. People walked by me within one meter let alone two.

Walking around the park, people used to walk on the grass either side of the walkway to maintain distance - they aren’t bothering now.

Also went into work today to make PPE for key workers. No one was using gloves and everyone was just sat next to each other chatting away. At break time everyone squeezed around one table to each lunch. No one seemed to care.

My neighbour has been religiously adhering to the lockdown rules, even telling me at one point that I was out for more than an hour, is currently having a BBQ with people who I assume are her parents.

If it’s like this now, what will it be like in another 12 weeks? Especially once the schools are back and shops are opening. Social distancing will be as good as dead. We’ll probably all just wear a mask and be done with it.

At the start of this social distancing was novel. Now it’s not and I can really feel a turn in the tide. I’m not going to worry about CV. Even as a stickler for rules, I’m going to enjoy life to the fullest capacity that I am allowed to.

StrangeLookingParasite · 25/04/2020 01:10

People weren't complying with the earlier/lighter restrictions so he had to act. He'd already implemented social distancing, he'd been telling people to wash their hands, practice good hygiene, reduce travel, catch coughs/sneezes, etc. He told the likes of cafes, clubs and pubs to either practice social distancing or close.

This is ridiculous. He was one of the worst offenders, glad-handing around everywhere. So he got it.

Quelle surprise.

Honestly, the lengths people will go to, and the lies they will tell, to defend this useless buffoon, continue to astonish me.

I've never been more glad I don't live in England.
