Why is everyone so eager to get vaccinated?

FTMF30 · 15/04/2020 09:39

What I mean by this is that a SAFE vaccine for coronavirus wouldn't be available for at least a couple of years. Vaccines need to be thoroughly tested and, although a lot of Mumsnetters don't like to believe it, vaccine injury IS REAL.

It's very sinister how very interested Bill Gates has become in the pharma industry in the last few years and how he advocates forced vaccines, or at least loss of freedom of movement/access for those who choose not to vaccinate (which is pretty much a forced vaccine). He doesn't care about vaccine injury as we are basically collateral damage to his end goal.

Is it not fair to be wary of a rushed vaccine? Is it not fair to not want to be vaccinated if I'm not fully ware of the implications just yet? When I come on here, I see a lot of people who are very happy that we have to stay inside (I understand the reason for this), I see people who are quarantining food and washing eggs and would take a vaccine if one was available tomorrow. I find it quite alarming how we've been fed stories about death after death after death, really biased stuff with hardly any balanced information. We've been frightened into being heavily controlled and that's the thing that really scares me.

I'm gonna ignore the part about Gates. While I'm totally pro vaccine but I'm also worried about vaccines that are created quickly and there is no long term research. Let's take the H1N1 vaccine that caused narcolepsy. While unlikely and can be considered collateral damage, still gives me concern over new vaccines.

OwlinaTree · 15/04/2020 10:04

I'm not anti vax but I do not pump everything they say into my system without checking with professionals.

This makes no sense to me. Who are these professionals that know more than the professionals that develop safe vaccines? There has never been a denial that vaccines can cause damage to a very tiny minority. But weighted against the benefits of the vaccines for the vast majority the vaccines are the best course of action. So who are these professionals of whom you speak that know better?

Colouringinbook · 15/04/2020 10:05

I think Bill Gates did enough harm with Microsoft Vista.

JellyfishandShells · 15/04/2020 10:06

This isn't the only Bill Gates conspiracy thread on here this morning. Nasty stuff, OP.

ArriettyJones · 15/04/2020 10:07

This makes no sense to me. Who are these professionals that know more than the professionals that develop safe vaccines?

I’m guessing shamans, soothsayers and some randoms on FB.

Lynda07 · 15/04/2020 10:07

I didn't know everyone was so eager to be vaccinated. I presume you mean for C virus. That's a long way off and needs to be tested before inflicted on the public. Last thing I would want is a vaccination that makes me so ill that I die! I'm happy to wait.

ArnoldBee · 15/04/2020 10:07

In my husbands case he has multiple health issues which basically mean if he was to be infected with Covid he would die. He has completed his reproduction and was expecting to be dead by now anyway and every extra day he has is a bonus. He would welcome a vaccine if he meant he could do normal things again like being able to leave the house.

RoseyOldCrow · 15/04/2020 10:08

Well I tried to add a biscuit but bloody phone shows flowers - definitely not that!

Jesusinthecabbagevan please can I swap them for one from your lovely selection?

zigaziga · 15/04/2020 10:09

I don't think there is anything wrong with the OP worrying about the safety of a vaccine developed in a hurry

Well yes, I agree with this (not the strange Bill Gates conspiracy theory Hmm).
I am very pro vaccinations but if there are testing procedures skipped to get this new vaccine out very early I would like to know about it. Saying that shouldn’t be controversial.

I think I’ve had CV (typical symptoms and know of those with positive tests around the same time that I came into contact with) so I won’t rush to get a vaccine. I’d rather get an antibody test.

WatcherintheRye · 15/04/2020 10:10

What I find really scary is the way any discussion of this issue is closed down with all your stupid Biscuit Biscuit Biscuits and insults. It's almost like no-one is confident enough of their own pov to discuss it in a civil and rational way.

I speak as someone whose dc have all had the full range of childhood vaccines, sometimes with misgivings, but I weighed up the risks. I'm not, however arrogant enough to assume that my way is the path everyone must take. If there is to be no measured and restrained debate allowed on controversial issues, then we are done for. So here's my own Biscuit to all those who think that an appropriate response to anyone who puts forward another opinion on something is 'stfu'. Argue your case ffs Angry

DrDreReturns · 15/04/2020 10:10

@RoseyOldCrow that's Bill Gates fault! Grin

TheShoesa · 15/04/2020 10:11

Mercury is not put into vaccines - a preservative called thiomersal (also known as thimerosal) which is a compound containing mercury was used in multi dose vials. That is not the same thing as free mercury. For example, common salt is a compound - sodium chloride - which we use for seasoning. If you ingested pure sodium, it would be harmful.

I left the industry long ago, but as far I'm aware no vaccines now use thiomersal as a preservative anyway.

You are right in that vaccine damage can unfortunately occur, but I vaccinated my children as I would rather take the very small risk of vaccine damage over the risk of life changing effects of the diseases vaccinated against.

I guess you believed Andrew Wakefield OP. Great work on the resurgence of measles.
The rest is Biscuit

FTMF30 · 15/04/2020 10:12

In regards to Bill Gates, I just mean that the pharma industry is one of the biggest profit making industries in the world. I know from previously working close to that industry (which is also why I'm wary of a rush job). The rich are extremely greedy and, although Bill Gates is donating a lot of money to vaccine research, he stands to make a whole lot more from being at the head of the approved vaccine. So what I mean is, people are rushing to be involved in the 'miracle' vaccine mostly for monetary reasons which would encourage a rush job.

It goes beyond the comprehension of some but our world leaders care more about money and power. The country/people who lead the vaccine will be put in an accelerated position of power. So my concern boils down to being forced to have a rushed out vaccine.

I'm not saying Bill Gates is evil or anything like that, but he ultimately has little care for us as individuals.

"all your stupid biscuit biscuit biscuits and insults."

Did you miss the bit of the OP where Bill Gates is portrayed as a Bond villain? That's not sensible debate.

DrDreReturns · 15/04/2020 10:13

I'm not saying Bill Gates is evil or anything like that, but he ultimately has little care for us as individuals

How do you know that?

zigaziga · 15/04/2020 10:13

@Rezie agree with you.

Whilst the anti vaxx and Bill Gates conspiracy theorists are not people I ever want to side with, I also think saying that the vaccine is v safe and the risks are small and blah blah blah is also really odd since there is no approved vaccine yet so we don’t know the risks for this one.
Let’s just wait and see.

Greysparkles · 15/04/2020 10:14

I'm with you, there's no way I'm going to be getting this rushed vaccine. Not a chance.

If others want to that's up to them, but i'd rather take the risk of the virus than end up with a myriad of health problems due to vaccine

Hingeandbracket · 15/04/2020 10:14

"he stands to make a whole lot more from being at the head of the approved vaccine."

Can you explain how he will make money from this please?

thethoughtfox · 15/04/2020 10:14

It's obvious: Bill Gates started the coronavirus so he can inject microchips into our chicken nuggets. Wake up, OP.

FTMF30 · 15/04/2020 10:15

Thanks for the biscuits. They were delicious.

FTMF30 · 15/04/2020 10:17

Typical of Mumsnetters to think there can only be 2 sides and nothing in between. I'm actually not anti vaxx, but carry on sending the biscuits lol.

OP posts:
turfsausage · 15/04/2020 10:17

I don't see much in the OP about conspiracy theories. The OP's just questioning why Bill Gates seems to be entitled to share his opinion, which is a valid point, as he's not a medic or scientist. I wondered if being a wealthy individual he might bail out the banks and that's why he feels entitled. (Guess he could be a mathematician though with his background). Theres nothing wrong with questioning the status quo and asking questions. The OP is right imo about people's panic being ott. Hysteria is contagious! I feel lucky (and smug #blessed) that after a brief initial few panic buying sessions I saw sense and chilled the f**k out. Its much better on one's mental health than washing eggs. I do admit to milton-ing my iceberg though.

This is an interesting article from a historical perspective about pandemics.

Nanny0gg · 15/04/2020 10:17

I'm not saying Bill Gates is evil or anything like that, but he ultimately has little care for us as individuals.

So his foundation is donating billions. So non-profit.

Though I'm sure selling the data from the microchip that will be embedded at the same time will net him a pretty penny... Confused

BadBear · 15/04/2020 10:18

A first Biscuit for me too!

I have already been told by an Instagram guru this morning that epilepsy can be cured with meditation and fasting so I think I am done for today.
