Why is everyone so eager to get vaccinated?

What I mean by this is that a SAFE vaccine for coronavirus wouldn't be available for at least a couple of years. Vaccines need to be thoroughly tested and, although a lot of Mumsnetters don't like to believe it, vaccine injury IS REAL.

It's very sinister how very interested Bill Gates has become in the pharma industry in the last few years and how he advocates forced vaccines, or at least loss of freedom of movement/access for those who choose not to vaccinate (which is pretty much a forced vaccine). He doesn't care about vaccine injury as we are basically collateral damage to his end goal.

Is it not fair to be wary of a rushed vaccine? Is it not fair to not want to be vaccinated if I'm not fully ware of the implications just yet? When I come on here, I see a lot of people who are very happy that we have to stay inside (I understand the reason for this), I see people who are quarantining food and washing eggs and would take a vaccine if one was available tomorrow. I find it quite alarming how we've been fed stories about death after death after death, really biased stuff with hardly any balanced information. We've been frightened into being heavily controlled and that's the thing that really scares me.

Biscuit You will have a packet before long

The risk of vaccine injury is lower than the risk of life changing/ending infection with CV

iVampire · 15/04/2020 09:46

All the threads I’ve seen have assumed full and proper testing, so that is why MNers are keen to be protected

And yes, of course Bill Gates is such an awful person for giving so much money into preventing diseases and researching new ways to prevent. And the world would be a better place if the Gates Foundation stopped supporting work against malaria. And if rich philanthropists in general ceased to support medical research

We’d all be so much better off if we wore tin foil hats and ceased to understand already something of the necessary stages in vaccine research

Hugglespuffed · 15/04/2020 09:46

At least a couple of years? I'm sure they are already doing human trials now aren't they? A vaccine should be ready by next Easter I think.

You refer to Bill Gates end goal but don’t specify what it is. I’m intrigued. What do you think his objective is?

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude How do you know the risk is lower than infection of CV if we don't even have a vaccine yet??

I think your conspiracy theories are a load of twaddle.

But, you are correct there is more risk in a rushed vaccine compared with the 10 yrs (as I heard on R4 this morning) they usually take to develop.

What you have to weigh up is the risk of you contracting C19, having complications, dying, or passing it on to a vulnerable relative versus hidden side effects or longer term complications/effects of a speeded through vaccine.

I think many people, especially the fit and healthy or older people, may decide the risk is worth it.

Have a Brew with your Biscuit

DrDreReturns · 15/04/2020 09:49

I'll take a fully tested vaccine every time. The risk of vaccine injury is way lower than the risk of serious complications from the disease it vaccinates against. What is it with anti vaxxers? I just don't understand them. There's this technology that prevents loads of horrible diseases and you are against it?

Yes they are rushing to get a vaccine sorted, but no safety steps will be skipped, that's why it's still going to take so long. All options will be thoroughly tested. I will have it as soon as it's finished and available

DappledThings · 15/04/2020 09:51

Hurrah. It's my first Biscuit too.
