Why is everyone so eager to get vaccinated?

FTMF30 · 15/04/2020 09:39

What I mean by this is that a SAFE vaccine for coronavirus wouldn't be available for at least a couple of years. Vaccines need to be thoroughly tested and, although a lot of Mumsnetters don't like to believe it, vaccine injury IS REAL.

It's very sinister how very interested Bill Gates has become in the pharma industry in the last few years and how he advocates forced vaccines, or at least loss of freedom of movement/access for those who choose not to vaccinate (which is pretty much a forced vaccine). He doesn't care about vaccine injury as we are basically collateral damage to his end goal.

Is it not fair to be wary of a rushed vaccine? Is it not fair to not want to be vaccinated if I'm not fully ware of the implications just yet? When I come on here, I see a lot of people who are very happy that we have to stay inside (I understand the reason for this), I see people who are quarantining food and washing eggs and would take a vaccine if one was available tomorrow. I find it quite alarming how we've been fed stories about death after death after death, really biased stuff with hardly any balanced information. We've been frightened into being heavily controlled and that's the thing that really scares me.

Nothing in life is risk free. Competent adults should be capable of weighing up risks

PlywoodPlank · 15/04/2020 09:53

Bill Gates' end goal seems to be a world in which diseases like malaria and Covid are preventable through affordable vaccines.

What a bastard. Biscuit

Lol you sound like my batty great aunt who ends every Facebook post with "WAKE UP SHEEPLE!"

DrDreReturns · 15/04/2020 09:55

@PlywoodPlank he made his money with Microsoft, nothing can redeem him after that! I'm joking but I'm sure that's what a lot of people think. I'm a big fan of his.

123bananas · 15/04/2020 09:55

He himself said that rushing through a vaccine might be risky and that governments may have to indemnify vaccine companies against legal claims in cases where things go wrong.

While I think your opinion is a tad OTT, it baffles me how more people aren’t wary of taking a brand new vaccine, and how many people want it as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, it’s true that vaccine damage is a real thing, and personally, as I’m lucky enough to not have other heath conditions etc, I’d rather take my chances with the virus.

Reginabambina · 15/04/2020 09:55

It’s fair to be wary of an untested vaccine but no one is asking you to take an untested vaccine, not even bill gates.

RoseyOldCrow · 15/04/2020 09:56

Your post cheered me up, OP - no matter what is going on in the real world, there will always be some things that remain the same, despite logic & science, so here you are, and thanks: Biscuit

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 15/04/2020 09:56

I don't think there is anything wrong with the OP worrying about the safety of a vaccine developed in a hurry. I wouldn't be in a rush to have a vaccine. I would want to make a decision about whether to be vaccinated based on how much safety testing had been done and the results of those tests.

FTMF30 · 15/04/2020 09:56

@TeenPlusTwenties Thank you for at least providing an answer to my question. I don't know why people get so hysterical about people questioning vaccines.

I'm not an anti-vaxxer, my son has had his vaccines. I'm just wary of new vaccines for historical reasons:

The lockdown has certainly unleashed the lunatics on MN.

OddBoots · 15/04/2020 09:57

What do you think is the end goal of Bill Gates?

For what it is worth I am in no rush to be vaccinated, I would want to see evidence that for my demographic the vaccine would be safer than catching C-19 but I don't think those backing vaccine development have bad intentions.

McT123 · 15/04/2020 09:58

I'm safe as I don't have a 5g phone yet
How do you know that your phone hasn't secretly been infected with 5G by Bill Gates and his evil henchmen?

MalusDacus · 15/04/2020 09:59

I totally agree with you on that and this happens because of the herd mentality.
I come from a family of doctors including family friends/relatives and they all said few things about vaccines that it's not "cute" at all. People have no idea what exactly they put in those vaccines(mercury
for example) and we know some people actually have a very serious side effect including death, especially to babies.
I'm not anti vax but I do not pump everything they say into my system without checking with professionals.

Verily1 · 15/04/2020 10:00

FGS you can be pro vax without being pro forced vax!

OwlinaTree · 15/04/2020 10:01

I wouldn't want to have a vaccine that hadn't been tested to the levels they normally have to go through. Those steps of testing are there for a reason presumably. I would have a full tested and validated vaccine.

Makeitgoaway · 15/04/2020 10:01

Does "everyone" want to get vaccinated?

I and my children have had all the vaccinations offered to us but i wpukdnt want to see a vaccination rushed through without proper testing. Which I'm sure it won't be and is why there won't be a widely available vaccination to end this crisis, we will need to find a other way.

VettiyaIruken · 15/04/2020 10:01

You are absolutely right that any new vaccine may have risks. All the testing in the world can't tell you with absolute certainty what might happen 10 years, 20 years after having it. But testing and examination etc are rigorous. A lot was learned after the thalidomide tragedy.

I think everyone knows that there may be risks.

It's still better than an out of control virus with a high death rate.

But luckily for you, nobody will in reality be forced to have it so if you'd rather not, that's your choice.

But try not to worry. Bill gates is not a sinister illuminati type out to take over the world and the virus isn't a secret weapon released to achieve a new world order. It's just a bloke who feels passionately about the good of immunisations, and a virus that mutated as viruses do.

Confused

Someone please get into a hilarious parking situation they can start a thread about. Lockdown must be causing some parking cheeky fuckery somewhere? With flat batteries thrown in?

Hingeandbracket · 15/04/2020 10:02

OP - please answer those of us who are asking you what you think is Bill Gates' actual motivation?

Joliany · 15/04/2020 10:03

Now this really is a scaremongering post. Are you trying to put people off getting the vaccine when it becomes available op? Why would you do that when so many are dying? Occasional vaccine damage is real. But this will still be properly tested. Obviously. So I certainly will be getting it when it becomes available. As somebody who is in a high risk category I'll take my chances with the vaccine over the significantly increased risk of death through coronavirus.

aLilNonnyMouse · 15/04/2020 10:03

I'll die from the virus. Even if the vaccine was dangerous (which I don't believe), I'd have a much better chance of surviving with it than without it.

A lot of people here are talking like the sheilded group are some mythical "other" group that exist but are hidden away from "us normal people" here on Mumsnet. There are a ton of us here commenting along with the healthy people.

I'm 29 years old and outside of this virus I have a full normal life expectancy. I'm not "almost dead" and I'm not ready to die from something I can easily prevent getting; by staying inside until a vaccine, and then getting it.
