Workers in the NHS don’t know how long the lockdown will be, just like headteachers don’t know. The government will have a vague idea based on their modelling, but even they don’t know. It will depend on a number of things.

SunshineCake · 04/04/2020 22:02

Absolutely not. There are far too many selfish twats going out.

It was always going to be more than three weeks and if one had listened to Boris and then watched as selfish people still go out and break the rules they would know that.

HoffiCoffi13 · 04/04/2020 22:03

Even if selfish twats weren’t still going out, the lockdown would need to be more than 3 weeks.

My husband is a manager of a carers agency and they've been told to prepare for lockdown until around June time! Which to be honest sounds about right with the way the UK is going in terms of flouting the rules! People at the beach and Instagram influencers clearly flouting the rules for everyone to see.. has really got on my nerves. Some of us have to suffer for the stupidity of others when this could've been over in a matter of weeks. It's so sad for all the families who have lost someone and it may be horrible to say but all those flouting the rules have to take responsibility for any future deaths that may occur. We don't know whether or not we have corona and just don't have symptoms. We could be passing it to others and making them unwell without even realising. Honestly some people are just so selfish!!

Rant over, sorry guys x

emmetgirl · 04/04/2020 22:05

Absolutely not. At least another month.

Nitpickpicnic · 04/04/2020 22:05

In Australia our premier has said (2 days ago) to brace for 6 months before lifting of any restrictions, with likely tightenings along the way.

We’re all going to look like Gollum by then. It’s going to be a looooong cold winter over here...

HoffiCoffi13 · 04/04/2020 22:06

6 months?! Who is going to pay for you to live for that 6 months?

DollyDaydream70 · 04/04/2020 22:07

NHS worker here, not a cat in hells chance!

buttermilkwaffles · 04/04/2020 22:09

End of May, beginning of June is what is being advised. Maybe sooner, if the government chose to (probably against advice or if there was a clear downwards trend earlier than expected).

But definitely not next week!

Do you think lockdown will end next week?
StartingGrid · 04/04/2020 22:13

All our home workers have been told they will be there till May at least, so I very much doubt it will be life as normal next week!

PuppyMonkey · 04/04/2020 22:14

Your DP is a silly sausage, OP.

Pishposhpashy · 04/04/2020 22:16

Anyone who says they know when lockdown will end is talking bollocks. No one knows.

Sounsociable · 04/04/2020 22:16

I think my DH is this delusional optimistic to think it will finish next week too. I keep trying to persuade him it's not going to happen

StrawberryBlondeStar · 04/04/2020 22:16

@buttermilkwaffles in the 3rd graph what does “social distancing” entail. What would be different to now?

GirlCalledJames · 04/04/2020 22:16

MIT think two years of intermittent lockdown. For example, if there’s a second peak in October/November, there might need to be a return to lockdown.
Financial Times had data showing higher footfall in the UK compared with other countries under lockdown, so it may have to last longer.

MoltonSilver · 04/04/2020 22:17

It'll be at least a month. Probably longer.

Mascotte · 04/04/2020 22:17

Fuck, I hope so

HoffiCoffi13 · 04/04/2020 22:17

Anyone who says they know when lockdown will end is talking bollocks. No one knows

Exactly this. Business owners don’t know. NHS workers don’t know. Education Authority’s don’t know. Boris Johnson has plans in place based on modelling, but he doesn’t know.

BiBiBirdie · 04/04/2020 22:19

There was a report our today that if, and only if, we all stay in we might be out of lockdown for mid-May
If the types of twattish behaviour that has also been reported up and down the country of ignoring lockdown and going to the park/outdoor gym/beach continues we will be lucky to be out of lockdown by September.

There is no chance next week. I wish it was. It does seem to be leveling they have mentioned green shoots of progress but who knows. It's not even meant to peak until next Sunday. At which point one presumes deaths will be into the many thousands per day sadly.

frumpety · 04/04/2020 22:21

Why would they be bothering to build the Nightingale and all the other field hospitals if they genuinely thought it would all be over by next week ? Seems like an awful waste of time and resources if they expect non of them to get used ?

MigginsMrs · 04/04/2020 22:22

Nope. Till the late May bank holiday I’d say at earliest and even then it will only be an easing of restrictions. No point in doing all this and having it undone by bank holiday wankers.

ilovedjerrymore · 04/04/2020 22:22

Also have a few family members who think the same that it will all start to reopen next week due to the economy.
I know of a few places that are going to start re opening next week construction sites (the few that were closed) are reopening and also suppliers that closed are also reopening.
The local chip shop closed last week and is also reopening next week, only 2 people in at a time etc.

TestBank · 04/04/2020 22:23

End of lockdown is not the same as end of disease (altho next week is never going to be end of lockdown either)

Mascotte · 04/04/2020 22:23

And how the fuck are people meant boy manage with no income even til midMay? Never mind no human contact

Babyroobs · 04/04/2020 22:25

I don't think so seeing as they think deaths will peak on Easter sunday.
