I think the chance of us still being in lockdown this time next year is significantly higher than it being lifted next week.
The chance of it being lifted next week must be almost zero.

No. If anything it may get more restrictive in my opinion.

@StrawberryBlondeStar

It's from Sunday Times last week and Prof Ferguson was quoted saying it would mean schools still being closed and people who can work from home continuing to do so.

"Prof Ferguson said once lockdown is over, people will still need to practise social distancing for many more months to avoid a resurgence, could mean schools/universities staying closed until the autumn, and people continuing to work from home rather than return to their offices."

No I think we will be told every three weeks we will be placed on lockdown still I think if we was to be told now stay in until June etc some idiots would deliberately take it personally and start trying to rebel and cause issues I don't know.
I do think it will be like this for ages though as my sister who is a minor needs an urgent op done and the hospital said yesterday they won't even think of doing it until September/October the earliest as it's not a priority right now, but of course it is to us as it's serious, but what can we do? Nothing 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Hope people realise Ending lockdown will take weeks to do in itself, so a quick fix this is not.

I can not imagine bars, restaurants, clubs, gyms, cinemas, theatres will open until the very end of the phased Return to normality.

Social distancing will be a new norm for the next few years, partly because of people’s newly inbuilt paranoia that there may be a chance of infection risk.

Any kinks along the way, or spikes in infections may see the easing being reversed and going back to lockdown.

This in out in out of lockdown will go on until a vaccine is introduced or infections are largely under control.

All of this is perfectly manageable as long as the government puts in place a proper comprehensive support network to help the vulnerable and every single person who is not in work. If they mess this part up that is when the trouble will start.

No chance, and it would be silly if it did - it would just prolong the crisis even longer. We haven't seen any reduction in infection rates yet. Anyone who thinks it might end soon, hasn't been listening (sorry, not meant to be rude)....if anything I think the government have been softly trying to prepare us for it being much much longer....

So you will not leave the house for two years then?

This sounds right to me. The end of the first lockdown just means build up to second wave.

Well, if he says it every week then one of those statements will be correct... but no, I think we're going to be stir crazy for a while longer.

No, and it wouldn’t surprise me if things got tougher, possibly by the end of May try might start easing some of the restrictions.

Is your husband an epidemiologist? Or just a man who has unshakeable but groundless faith in his own opinions? Hmm

I doubt it will end soon. It might be modified and there might be an eventual stepped return to "normality".

My expectation is that there will be more flaunting of regulations and devious ways found to socialise.

It would be helpful if there were clear criteria for lockdown changing.

Ohh OP.. Don't ask that question on here 😬😂
I don't think it will end next week, but I don't think it will be extended much longer. Not past end of April/start of May, just no.

Wehttam · 04/04/2020 22:54

Pish I think that’s what wearenotamused is alluding to.

It does make perfect logical sense though, the most vulnerable who are shielding would literally be stepping out into a massive risk without a vaccine being at hand.

No chance. I've prepared myself mentally for three months in lockdown because I need a deadline to manage my feelings. If it's extended beyond that I'll be pissed off, but me being pissed off is a very very minor problem compared to what the consequences are for others, so if it's extended I'll probably be grumpy for a few days and get over it. What worries me is the longer it goes on the more people bend the rules, and the consequences for my industry and my job. If we come out too early we'll all end up back in again anyway.
