Not a cat in hell’s chance.

Rachel1874 · 05/04/2020 17:50

😂😂 tell him to keep dreaming

Retired65 · 05/04/2020 17:51

Who knows when lockdown will end but definitely not next week!

Nonnymum · 05/04/2020 17:52

No, I am afraid not, it will be at least until June, possibly longer I think

BonusMamaJ · 05/04/2020 17:55

Definitely not
The lock down lasted two months in China
People still aren't following the rules
Every time the sun shines and people go for picnics it resets the timer

Zoejj77 · 05/04/2020 17:56

Have the majority of people even locked down yet? I read stats that we are running at about 50% and we need to be at about 70% + to be successful in a 3 month period!

purplebunny2012 · 05/04/2020 17:59

Your DP is in Cloud Cuckoo Land. I never believed it was going to be as short as 3 weeks in the first place, and a lot of people haven't even complied with it, especially in my county

cologne4711 · 05/04/2020 17:59

I'm a lot more positive than most people on MN, but no, not next week. At the very very least it would be extended by a week because of the Easter holidays.

After that, if the case numbers are stabilising, we may see a slight relaxation - eg as I mentioned on another thread you might be able to take your cat to a vet or go to the opticians. And hopefully they'll be able to restart some of the more urgent health treatment they've put on hold, too.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 05/04/2020 18:02

imho - it will be extended for another 3 weeks

if the situation is 'improving' the message will be 'well done, we must stick with this and not undo all the good we've done'

if things are getting worse, the message 'i know this is difficult but now everyone can see why we are doing this and we mustn't let up now'

or some such

HoffiCoffi13 · 05/04/2020 18:04

I never believed it was going to be as short as 3 weeks in the first place

We were never told that it would be lifted after 3 weeks. Only that the measures in place would be reviewed after 3 weeks.

Nannyrose17 · 05/04/2020 18:05

I hope not.

HavenDilemma · 05/04/2020 18:06

I'm amazed at home some posters are relishing in saying that it's going to go on for weeks yet..... Sick & twisted

madhea · 05/04/2020 18:07

No! It’s likely to get stricter not more lenient

PainauChocolat12 · 05/04/2020 18:07

Nope. My bet is 23rd June. That’ll be 13 weeks in lockdown.

JPduck · 05/04/2020 18:08

No

bemusedmoose · 05/04/2020 18:10

No way, unless someone decides they want to cleanse the UK of most of its inhabitants. This is going to last months and the more people that don't bother sticking to the rules the longer it will go on.

Arrowfanatic · 05/04/2020 18:17

Hahahahahahahaha, whilst people still wont stay at home no chance. It'll be June at the earliest.

Firef1y72 · 05/04/2020 18:18

No. I think there will be a 2-3 week extension. And then the rules will be relaxed slightly for 1-2 weeks to allow the virus to recirculate and the next group of people get it. Then possibly a shorter tightening of restrictions, followed by a slightly longer relaxation. Then depending on numbers, the slightly relaxed version (where groups of maybe up to 10 can meet), there will be a short period of even more relaxation and then back to the slight relaxation. Then as long as it doesn't look like the NHS is going to be overwhelmed, each cycle will see us move a little closer to normality.

The idea has never been (and can't ever be) for us to eradicate the virus, the idea is to slow the spread so that the NHS isn't overwhelmed and to give time for such things as antibody testing to be developed and for the virus to mutate to a less deadly form (which it most likely will, it's not in the virus' interest to kill it's host). Eventually the majority of us will catch it and form some degree of immunity.

plumpynoo · 05/04/2020 18:24

I'm also thinking it may be relaxed slightly in the next couple of weeks. One of the scientists who are working with the government says that it will be reviewed on 13th april as the economic implications of keeping people off work for too long could be very serious. It was in an article on BBC website, so I'm inclined to think it's genuine.

keffie12 · 05/04/2020 18:32

@plumpypoo I read that. It won't happen. There is no way the lockdown will be lifted. If anything it will be tightened. We haven't even peaked yet.

What the person said working with the government is probably out of context of the full story. We all know the economic damage through this. Sending people back to work too soon will create more emotional and physical damage, let alone economic.

The economy is on the backburner now and is not as important

Carriecakes80 · 05/04/2020 18:32

No way, not a chance. For definite.

ToftyAC · 05/04/2020 18:41

😂 errrr.... nope

Sapphiresunrise · 05/04/2020 18:48

My mate reckons 8 more weeks of this lockdown. Sorry but no fucking way.

Mascotte · 05/04/2020 18:48

The economy is pretty fucking important if you have no income

HoffiCoffi13 · 05/04/2020 18:49

Your mate? Is he Boris Johnson?
