Could this be the end of the Royal family?

I don't mean if they die of the virus...

But there's nothing like a lockdown to really highlight inequality. I saw an article yesterday about Kate + William "isolating" at Anmer Hall, having done a photoshoot where they pretend to be on the telephone and writing ("working").

I think if people are going to have to spend months at home, in small flats with kids, still going out to work or trying to WFH, queueing for supermarkets with empty shelves......that could definitely breed some discontent. Or if people catch it and have to be treated in makeshift hospitals, not getting an ambulance until they're struggling to breathe, while the RF can be whisked away to a private hospital for treatment. I've already seen a lot of comments along the lines of "why don't they offer up their many palaces to be used as hospitals, rather than doing newspaper articles".

Opinions?

I'm half-expecting a post from you know who saying they are even more impressed with Prince Andrew after reading this thread 😂😂

Mamamia456 · 03/04/2020 18:12

Wolfgirrl - 😂😂

LaurieMarlow · 03/04/2020 18:13

I just can’t fathom how low some people’s standards/expectations are.

They’re happy to fund, support and kow tow to a family that have very little to recommend them and have at times behaved disgracefully.

How the royals must laugh at the deluded public as they sit in the comfort of their massive estates.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/04/2020 18:18

Even if there was ironclad evidence, I'm sure that being Royal, they'd manage to find a way to weasel out of being arrested anyway

Or failing that, to interfere with the giving of evidence ... Paul Burrell anyone?

Must be fair though; for all I know there may be some who actually believe that HM suddenly remembered a conversation Hmm

Noodlenosefraggle · 03/04/2020 20:17

No matter what your personal views are Prince Andrew has never been arrested
Well I'd be surprised if he ever set foot on American soil again, so that may be why. He knows the will never be extradited or have to stand trial for anything.
Even if he didnt commit any offences himself, he cared so little that his friend had been convicted of child sex offences that he spent 5 days with him in New York and had to be told that it wasn't a good look before cutting it out. What a hero he is!

CathyorClaire · 03/04/2020 20:25

The royal family do donate to charities and other causes but the amount is never made public

Sorry. Have to revisit this as I've thought of something else Grin

If the royals are so very shy about declaring their charitable giving how do you account for the statement on the Duchy of Cornwall's page trumpeting how Charles donates the proceeds from the intestate estates he inherits to his benevolent fund and the similar statement on the Duchy of Lancaster's page?

We'll leave aside the fact it's other people's money and that everywhere else in the country it would revert to the taxpayer.

CathyorClaire · 03/04/2020 20:35

Because he is following government advice not to make any non-essential journeys

Arf

No matter what your personal views are Prince Andrew has never been arrested

That is a low, low bar but if you won't discuss Andrew how about a comment on HMQ's repeated two fingers to the peasants on his behalf?

CathyorClaire · 03/04/2020 20:40

Noodlenosefraggle

French authorities are also interested in interviewing Andrew.

clavinova. Mate. I don't even read most of your posts

Just looking at the list of people who have also turned down an OBE.

I had forgotten how rude and outspoken Michael Winner was;

"An OBE is what you get if you clean the toilets well at King's Cross station."

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 03/04/2020 22:13

"An OBE is what you get if you clean the toilets well at King's Cross station.

Lol then that just proves how right I was to tell them to stuff it up,their areas then GrinGrinGrin

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 03/04/2020 22:13

Oops, arses

Wolfgirrl · 03/04/2020 22:58

I think somebody is jealous of your turned-down OBE @Leighhalfpennysthigh 😂😂

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 04/04/2020 09:19

@Wolfgirrl I know right 🤣🤣

Clavinova · 04/04/2020 10:21

Why would I be jealous of someone who had not gone to the Palace?

And why start a post; 'As someone who was "awarded" the OBE'... if you forget to mention that you declined the award? Some people regret turning down their award of course and accept one years later - others are holding out for something more prestigious. Perhaps you could ask a different relative to nominate you again in 10 years' time. Wink

We can continue this nonsense if you like - I haven't got much going on today. Grin

audreysview · 04/04/2020 10:32

You looking forward to the queens speech Clavinova, I’m sure you’ll get lots of inspiration.

Clavinova · 04/04/2020 10:43

You looking forward to the queens speech Clavinova, I’m sure you’ll get lots of inspiration.

A bit worried to be honest - I was expecting the Queen for our 'darkest hour' - I hope that's not going to be the case.

CathyorClaire · 04/04/2020 11:25

others are holding out for something more prestigious

That's going well for David Beckham Grin

Clavinova · 04/04/2020 11:36

Yes - apparently he 'has given up hope of a knighthood in the near future' .Grin

Noodlenosefraggle · 04/04/2020 11:52

Perhaps they are just rude in Brazil!
And its not rude to minimise a
another persons achievements on the basis of their race? When they are your hosts and probably have been forced to how and scrape to someone you dont really care for? He may have been a 'distinguished naval officer' but he has been rolling in clover for 70 years courtesy of his wife and us. Yet he is a racist, arrogant bully. No wonder his son is the way he is.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 04/04/2020 12:23

others are holding out for something more prestigious

Or maybe they (I) think they are a complete and utter waste of time and money and as a republican I have no desire to go to any palace, thank you.

The only thing I'm holding out for is the day when his country grows up and realises that paying for this bunch of useless idiots and freeloaders is not what it wants to do.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 04/04/2020 12:28

Oh and go find someone else to goad. I'm bored of it.

Livingtothefull · 04/04/2020 12:29

Here is an explanation from Michael Winner himself as to why he and others turned down honours: www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2092462/It-honour-turn-gong-Why-MICHAEL-WINNER-MA-said-OBE--twice.html#comments

Clavinova · 04/04/2020 12:56

Noodlenosefraggle

But it's ok for you to post;

"There were some drunken British twats in Benidorm at the weekend ignoring the quarantine, weren't they? Hopefully they've been watercannoned indoors now. Idiots."

Are you British yourself?

And yes, I did put your name and 'British' into advanced search. Shall I put 'Tory' in as well?

Leighhalfpennysthigh
Oh and go find someone else to goad. I'm bored of it.

You started it with a personal dig at me on Thursday. You were not involved in the original discussion - you joined in the bullying 3 hours after everyone else had stopped. You were the first person to post again this morning - why do that if you are bored? Looks very much like you wanted to goad me - you had already posted last night and I had not yet replied. As for;

"clavinova. Mate. I don't even read most of your posts" that looks goady to me.

You're not 'bored' - you just want the last word.

Mamamia456 · 04/04/2020 13:00

Leighhalfpenny - The vast majority of people who receive awards from the Queen are delighted and extremely proud that their hard work and dedication has been recognised. About 75% of the awards go to 'ordinary people'.

Just because you didn't accept yours doesn't mean that you're right and others are wrong. You are actually in the minority.

You can only speak for yourself and not for others.

Mamamia456 · 04/04/2020 13:03

Livingtothefull - I thought mumsnetters didn't read the Daily mail, or maybe they do when it suits them.
