Could this be the end of the Royal family?

I don't mean if they die of the virus...

But there's nothing like a lockdown to really highlight inequality. I saw an article yesterday about Kate + William "isolating" at Anmer Hall, having done a photoshoot where they pretend to be on the telephone and writing ("working").

I think if people are going to have to spend months at home, in small flats with kids, still going out to work or trying to WFH, queueing for supermarkets with empty shelves......that could definitely breed some discontent. Or if people catch it and have to be treated in makeshift hospitals, not getting an ambulance until they're struggling to breathe, while the RF can be whisked away to a private hospital for treatment. I've already seen a lot of comments along the lines of "why don't they offer up their many palaces to be used as hospitals, rather than doing newspaper articles".

Opinions?

Mamamia456 - I am not 'a mumsnetter'; or if I am one then so are you because you are posting on here. I am an individual who frequently posts on Mumsnet. It suits me to read anything of interest to me; that includes (on occasion) reading things I disagree with. That is how I ensure my opinions are as well informed as possible.

'if you won't discuss Andrew how about a comment on HMQ's repeated two fingers to the peasants on his behalf?'

Quite. TBH the show of support from our head of state on behalf of Andrew, at a time when there is a question over his conduct and an ongoing investigation which he has refused to assist with, is just disgraceful. It is up to her what support she offers him privately as his mother.

'About 75% of the awards go to 'ordinary people'.

What is your source and what is the definition of an 'ordinary person' that was used? Anyway it should be closer to 100%.

Mamamia456 · 04/04/2020 13:35

Livingtothefull - As I thought, when it suits your agenda.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 04/04/2020 13:43

Bloody hell js this pointless debate about wards still going on? Though suppose it serves as a welcome distraction for the monarchists from having to acknowledge the truth about their beloved royal family 🤣

Wolfgirrl · 04/04/2020 13:48

I've started a shiny new thread for anyone that wants to join the debate without having to read through 34 pages!

Mamamia456 · 04/04/2020 13:49

Livingtothefull - Ordinary people in the community, as opposed to famous people. People who dedicate their time to community, voluntary or charitable work. For instance a 17 year old boy received a BEM for his anti violence work and for saving the life of a 19 year old. There are lots of sources on line.

I think some famous people are very worthy of their honours, David Attenborough and Michael Morpurgo being just two of them.

Mamamia456 · 04/04/2020 13:51

Leighhalfpenny - Nobody's making you join in.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 04/04/2020 14:03

@Wolfgirrl can you post a link please?

Wolfgirrl · 04/04/2020 14:08

@Leighhalfpennysthigh

If I cut and paste the URL would that work? Sorry, I'm a hopeless technophobe!

Otherwise it is in the topic Coronavirus and is called the Royals jumping ship part 2 Smile

Quite keen to move on to scrutinizing the things theyve done in the last few days, now we have been thrown some more crumbs!

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 04/04/2020 14:09

I'll find it - was just being lazy!

Peregrina · 04/04/2020 14:42

For instance a 17 year old boy received a BEM for his anti violence work and for saving the life of a 19 year old. There are lots of sources on line.

That's it though - he got the lowest award possible, the one for the plebs. Mr High up Bigwig would get at least an OBE for his efforts, or Other Bugger's Efforts as it's sometimes known.

Mamamia456 · 04/04/2020 15:21

Peregrina - What a horrible thing to say. He didnt turn the award down so he must have been proud to receive his BEM, and I think it's great that the amount of community work he does has been recognised.

SussexPenguin · 04/04/2020 15:55

A friend of mine has an MBE just for doing the job she is paid to do.

Peregrina · 04/04/2020 19:17

It's not a horrible thing to say, the post after mine sums it up perfectly. Someone gets a higher honour just for doing their job. A young person who has earned it gets the lowest award they can give him.

It's like when Captain Ridgeway and Sergeant Blyth rowed the Atlantic together, Ridgeway got an MBE, Blyth the BEM.

They had phased out the BEM at one time, so goodness knows why they brought it back.
