Could this be the end of the Royal family?

I don't mean if they die of the virus...

But there's nothing like a lockdown to really highlight inequality. I saw an article yesterday about Kate + William "isolating" at Anmer Hall, having done a photoshoot where they pretend to be on the telephone and writing ("working").

I think if people are going to have to spend months at home, in small flats with kids, still going out to work or trying to WFH, queueing for supermarkets with empty shelves......that could definitely breed some discontent. Or if people catch it and have to be treated in makeshift hospitals, not getting an ambulance until they're struggling to breathe, while the RF can be whisked away to a private hospital for treatment. I've already seen a lot of comments along the lines of "why don't they offer up their many palaces to be used as hospitals, rather than doing newspaper articles".

Opinions?

Do we all believe Charles is really ill though. How do we know it’s not a lie to justify him hiding away and absconding from any duties.

Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish Health Minister and a Scottish NHS hospital would be involved in the deception though - they held a press conference regarding Prince Charles' test result.

alloutoffucks · 03/04/2020 12:03

Charles looks really ill. Unlike Boris.

Heygirlheyboy · 03/04/2020 12:04

That's to puzzled's anecdote.

audreysview · 03/04/2020 12:04

So because I’m sceptical about him having the virus, I must automatically want him to have died. Shock How the hell did you jump to that conclusion. What an odd way of thinking. You sound like hard work tbh.

audreysview · 03/04/2020 12:07

Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish Health Minister and a Scottish NHS hospital would be involved in the deception though - they held a press conference regarding Prince Charles' test result.

What difference does that make. Obviously it’s going to say positive.

UYScuti · 03/04/2020 12:10

Audrey I don't see anything vitriolic in your post and I think you'll make a very valid point!

UYScuti · 03/04/2020 12:11

The Queen has seen what happens when her other son had free rein to conduct his own public relations perhaps she has told Charles he has to go on lockdown and keep it zipped?

audreysview · 03/04/2020 12:15

UYScuti Exactly, I am suspicious of Charles’s illness but that was taken to wishing him dead. Confused

Clavinova · 03/04/2020 12:20

Philip: Good god, so many medals - I didn't realise Brazil was in the war that long.General: At least, sir, I didn't get them for marrying my wife.

Is that anecdote true though - wiki have given him quite a distinguished naval/wartime career:

"Naval and wartime service"

"He graduated from Dartmouth [Naval College] as the best cadet in his course. Philip was appointed as a midshipman in January 1940. He spent four months on the battleship HMS Ramillies, protecting convoys of the Australian Expeditionary Force in the Indian Ocean, followed by shorter postings on HMS Kent, on HMS Shropshire, and in Ceylon. After the invasion of Greece by Italy in October 1940, he was transferred from the Indian Ocean to the battleship HMS Valiant in the Mediterranean Fleet."

"On 1 February 1941,Philip was commissioned as a sub-lieutenant after a series of courses at Portsmouth, in which he gained the top grade in four out of five sections of the qualifying examination Among other engagements, he was involved in the battle of Crete, and was mentioned in dispatches for his service during the battle of Cape Matapan, in which he controlled the battleship's searchlights. He was also awarded the Greek War Cross of Valour. In June 1942, he was appointed to the V and W-class destroyer and flotilla leader HMS Wallace, which was involved in convoy escort tasks on the east coast of Britain, as well as the Allied invasion of Sicily."

"Promotion to lieutenant followed on 16 July 1942. In October of the same year, he became first lieutenant of HMS Wallace, at 21 years old one of the youngest first lieutenants in the Royal Navy. During the invasion of Sicily, in July 1943, as second in command of Wallace, he saved his ship from a night bomber attack. He devised a plan to launch a raft with smoke floats that successfully distracted the bombers, allowing the ship to slip away unnoticed. In 1944, he moved on to the new destroyer, HMS Whelp, where he saw service with the British Pacific Fleet in the 27th Destroyer Flotilla. He was present in Tokyo Bay when the instrument of Japanese surrender was signed. Philip returned to the United Kingdom on the Whelp in January 1946, and was posted as an instructor at HMS Royal Arthur, the Petty Officers' School in Corsham, Wiltshire."

UntamedWisteria · 03/04/2020 12:21

audreysview Charles did have a mild case of Coronavirus. Lots of reputable sources have confirmed it and I happen to know someone who has direct knowledge of the family too.
What a nasty thing to speculate about.

Peregrina · 03/04/2020 12:33

A lot of people had distinguished war time careers, but they haven't had people bowing and scraping to them in the following 75 years.

Charles is over 70 and over 70s have been told to stay at home, so I will not criticise him there. My criticism is of him clearing off to Scotland. This is what has set a poor example.

Clavinova · 03/04/2020 12:37

Perhaps they are just rude in Brazil!

"FRENCH president Emmanuel Macron has branded his Brazilian counterpart ‘extremely rude’ for mocking his wife Brigitte on Facebook."

"The 41-year-old was unimpressed after Jair Bolsonaro joked about the appearance of the 66-year-old first lady." oops.

UYScuti · 03/04/2020 12:40

Audrey unfortunately you have committed 'Lèse-majesté' 🙈 and for this some feel compelled to punish you.
I agree with you, even if he did have it Charlie is milking it🤞😷

UYScuti · 03/04/2020 12:44

Unnamedwisteria
why is it 'nasty' to speculate about Prince Charles?
Are you saying that any speculation about someone's health is nasty or that we should not question him because of who he is?

SleepyNightOwl · 03/04/2020 12:57

MsTSwift I don’t know what you are on about. I didn’t compare being on benefits to the royals. If you read carefully enough you would have seen that I was saying to someone else they were wrong about an assumption.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/04/2020 13:07

Is that anecdote true though - wiki have given him quite a distinguished naval/wartime career

Who can say? It's an old story attached to a RF member just like so many others - positive, negative or neither

It's true Philip's past career looks pretty good, but how much of that was down to his influential uncle being a Supreme Allied Commander I wouldn't want to guess

UntamedWisteria · 03/04/2020 13:43

UYScuti he's just made a formal public appearance to virtually "Open" the new Nightingale Hospital.

And it's nasty to speculate about anyone in the public eye not working as hard as you would like or lying about their health. (With the possible exceptions of Donald Trump, Katie Hopkins or Piers Morgan who have all made a career out of being unpleasant about other people.)

CathyorClaire · 03/04/2020 13:44

Is that anecdote true though - wiki have given him quite a distinguished naval/wartime career:

There's also lots of bling awarded purely for having married his wife.
Say what you like about them the royals do love a gong.

audreysview · 03/04/2020 13:46

UntamedWisteria
Oh don’t be so bloody naive. It’s not nasty at all to speculate about that family. I could be wrong but to me (and many others) it would be a very logical thing to do from his point of view. I’ll tell you what’s nasty, the royal family all having the luxury to scatter themselves about self isolating in their various palaces, and not giving a fuck about the rest of us.

They’re worth billions and yet they’d sooner hoard it, (that much money they’d never be able to spend it,)and they’ll stand back and see hospitals buckling under the strain of lack of respirators and simple hygiene equipment. Why are they not offering up Buckingham Palace?......

Think about all that before you call ordinary decent people nasty.

Mamamia456 · 03/04/2020 13:55

audreysview - The royal family do donate to charities and other causes but the amount is never made public.

Mamamia456 · 03/04/2020 14:00

audreysview - Why would Prince Charles pretend to have coronavirus - what planet are you actually on!

Not Buckingham Palace again, it has already been explained why it would not be suitable. Just think about it.

MsTSwift · 03/04/2020 14:00

They bloody should “donate” that’s our money!

Livingtothefull · 03/04/2020 14:01

Mamamia456 - how do we know they donate then if it is not made public? And if so what stops them declaring what they donate? If they are indeed giving generously surely that can only encourage others (especially other mega wealthy individuals) to do the same?

Livingtothefull · 03/04/2020 14:04

'Not Buckingham Palace again, it has already been explained why it would not be suitable. Just think about it'.

I think that if a hospital can be prepared from scratch in 9 days then some of Buckingham Palace could be made fit for purpose in a short time.
