Could this be the end of the Royal family?

I don't mean if they die of the virus...

But there's nothing like a lockdown to really highlight inequality. I saw an article yesterday about Kate + William "isolating" at Anmer Hall, having done a photoshoot where they pretend to be on the telephone and writing ("working").

I think if people are going to have to spend months at home, in small flats with kids, still going out to work or trying to WFH, queueing for supermarkets with empty shelves......that could definitely breed some discontent. Or if people catch it and have to be treated in makeshift hospitals, not getting an ambulance until they're struggling to breathe, while the RF can be whisked away to a private hospital for treatment. I've already seen a lot of comments along the lines of "why don't they offer up their many palaces to be used as hospitals, rather than doing newspaper articles".

Opinions?

Why not?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/04/2020 16:10

I know Prince Charles does not give money to the charity he founded The Prince's Trust

TBF I believe he gave £7000 of his naval pension (our money again, you see) to start it, but as usual with the RF it's others who work to actually run the organisation
If Charles has any real, day to day involvement beyond reading the odd report, sending irritating spider letters and turning up for the occasional event to be told how wonderful he is, I confess I'm not aware of it

Wolfgirrl · 03/04/2020 16:25

@Mamamia456

I don't discuss Prince Andrew on a public forum.

Why not? You have discussed everybody else.

Queen is to address the nation on Sunday! Wont be tuning in but pleased she will be raising morale amongst some of the elderly.

Still hanging in for an actual donation from Charles and Wills to rejoin the air ambulance like he is threatening, then I can stop complaining for the time being! Wont be holding my breath though!

Mamamia456 · 03/04/2020 16:27

audreysview - No matter what your personal views are Prince Andrew has never been arrested and I will leave it at that.

Wolfgirrl · 03/04/2020 16:29

@mamamia456

Isnt that because he refuses to co operate with American authorities?

audreysview · 03/04/2020 16:30

So what he’s never been arrested, did you really think he would?

I’ve never been arrested but you’ve voiced opinions on me? Confused

Wolfgirrl · 03/04/2020 16:31

@Mamamia456 after being quite happy to make jibes at others on this thread I find your behaviour incredibly cowardly.

Mamamia456 · 03/04/2020 16:31

Wolfgirrl - You're not even going to be watching the Queen! I'm dissapointed.

Wolfgirrl · 03/04/2020 16:33

I'm not.

Livingtothefull · 03/04/2020 16:37

Will she have her gold piano with her this time?

UntamedWisteria · 03/04/2020 16:47

Why then is he not opening that hospital in person rather than by video?

Why do you think?

Because he is following government advice not to make any non-essential journeys.

And can you imagine if he did it in person the security implications etc.

Some people just like to be goady for the sake of it.

TheSandman · 03/04/2020 16:52

Because he is following government advice not to make any non-essential journeys.

WTF!? He runs away to his second home in the Highlands WHILE SYMPOMATIC ignoring government warnings not to do just that and NOW he's following advice...? You're having a laugh.

Peregrina · 03/04/2020 16:57

Why is he opening the hospital at all? Why on earth not just put it into use and get one with treating the sick.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 03/04/2020 16:59

And I am disappointed to see that an OBE holder who has worked with disabled people appears to condone phrases such as 'loon' and 'human dregs' - not to mention online bullying - yet another 3 hours after the event (you). Thankfully I am not easily intimidated. An OBE holder should set the bar higher - for their own self-respect if nothing else.

If you read my post you'd know that I refused it. As to the rest, I haven't a clue what you're talking about and give no fucks anyway.

My self respect is perfectly fine, thank you.

One of the reasons why I refused the award is because I am not better or more special than others. Having an OBE or any other honour is no indication of someone being a better person. HTH

UntamedWisteria · 03/04/2020 16:59

Do you know when he went to Scotland?

audreysview · 03/04/2020 17:00

I won’t watch the queen, far from giving me any comfort it’d just wind me up. People who take comfort and pleasure from what the royals have to say strike me as odd. It’s like they think they’re superior beings.
Maybe not all odd, brainwashed perhaps.

Peregrina · 03/04/2020 17:11

I think he went on 22nd March.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/04/2020 17:15

Why is he opening the hospital at all?

PR and spin

Clavinova · 03/04/2020 17:19

Leighhalfpennysthigh
If you read my post you'd know that I refused it.

Not in the post directed at me - you only say 'awarded' an OBE.

LaurieMarlow · 03/04/2020 17:21

No matter what your personal views are Prince Andrew has never been arrested and I will leave it at that.

Well he wouldn’t be, would he?

He did however, knowingly spend time with a convicted sex offender. He expressed no regret at all for that action or even acknowledgment of the victims.

We are supposed to look up to these people as leaders, guides, representatives of us. The head of the family is also the head of the COE and has the moral authority that entails.

‘Never been arrested’ is basic table stakes for a regular human being. Yet they are supposed to be divinely appointed to rule over us? Hmm

What a huge crock of shit it all is. I’m so shocked that people in this day and age buy into it.

audreysview · 03/04/2020 17:33

Yeah as if the fact someone’s “never been arrested” has any meaning. There wouldn’t be room in the jails if Andrew and his ilk got arrested and convicted.

BeijingBikini · 03/04/2020 17:36

"Never been arrested" is really setting the bar quite low for being a decent human being....

Even if there was ironclad evidence, I'm sure that being Royal, they'd manage to find a way to weasel out of being arrested anyway

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 03/04/2020 17:48

@clavinova. Mate. I don't even read most of your posts Grin

TheSandman · 03/04/2020 18:00

Like not co-operating with the FBI for starters.

LaurieMarlow · 03/04/2020 18:00

"Never been arrested" is really setting the bar quite low for being a decent human being

To put it in context, this guy was second (third?) in line to the throne at one point.

I guess that means we should be grateful for William’s workshy ass. Hmm
