The Royals jumping ship...

A virus pandemic breaks out in the UK. Everyone is essentially on house arrest bar a few essential occasions. Businesses and workers facing going bust. People dying every day. Hospitals overwhelmed. Surely this would be a great moment for a morale boosting message from our beloved royals, who we pay to keep in the lap of luxury? Oh wait, a little recorded message has been deemed a health risk to the Queen (allegedly).

Oh well, they can always volunteer Buckingham Palace as a makeshift hospital or hub for supplies, etc, as I'm sure they want to do what they can for their beloved citizens, especially now theyve legged it out of London. Oh wait.

Seriously what are these people for and why do we pay for them again?

@Alsohuman theres such a narrow-minded attitude on here that education only counts if you've gone to a RG university and have various bits of paper. Anyone who talks about "A proper education" is themselves ignorant and blinkered.

Alsohuman · 25/03/2020 16:27

With all due respect, he wasn't down the pit for 14 hours a day, was he? You'll have to excuse my non bleeding heart

Nor was anyone else in this country and haven’t been for 30 years.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 25/03/2020 16:28

The OP is right.

Something as sweeping and catastrophic as COVID-19 does highlight the utter pointlessness and insane expense of the royal family.

Before people would pipe up about 'but...but... the tourists.' They now officially have no function whatsoever.

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 16:29

@managedmis

😂😂😂 that made me laugh!

Wolfgirrl ,
You are so right!

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 16:30

A filmed statement would make a difference to me.
I am worried she has died.

Suniscomingout · 25/03/2020 16:30

Perhaps they're helping and feel no need to advertise the fact.

merrygoround51 · 25/03/2020 16:30

The Queen was right to go to Windsor but I think that william really should not have run off to Norfolk. It looks like they have all run off
I mean they have huge amounts of space surely in London.

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/03/2020 16:31

There are no ventilators to buy. The issue with ventilators is production, not funding.

Apparently China had a surplus, which enabled Musk to buy over 1200 which he donated to US hospitals.

I can see the Royals doing this!!!

diddl · 25/03/2020 16:32

No one want to talk about the King of Thailand??!!

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 16:32

@alloutoffucks is this serious? If not, it made me laugh so much my 8mo just turned to look at me like 'wth' 😂😂

OP posts:
Lifeisabeach09 · 25/03/2020 16:33

Perhaps they're helping and feel no need to advertise the fact.

Maybe they should so the populace knows they give a shit and doing a bit more than the mere tokenisms they share on their twitter.

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 16:34

Yes I am serious

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 25/03/2020 16:34

The Queen was right to go to Windsor but I think that william really should not have run off to Norfolk. It looks like they have all run off

It doesn't just look like it, to be fair.

Perhaps they're helping and feel no need to advertise the fact

That would be pretty tone-deaf of them then. And unlikely. They need all the positive press they can get, frankly.

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 16:35

Yes I am serious

😳 apologies I really thought you were joking

C130 · 25/03/2020 16:37

I agree with you OP. The royal family are doing what they have always done, which is to make the public believe that they perform a useful function. How people can tolerate this family is beyond me.

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 16:37

William has run off to Norfolk?! A healthy young man with no medical problems?? God it gets worse!

OP posts:
Cornettoninja · 25/03/2020 16:37

The royal family are still flesh and blood. It’s bordering on sociopathic to not recognise them as human beings, as vulnerable to illness and death as we all are. Shiny trinkets and a castle mean fuck all of you can’t get enough air into your lungs.

At this moment in time what they are or aren’t doing is irrelevant (unless Wills has secretly become a microbiologist or something). It’s completely puerile to start bitching about their status in relation to the pandemic.

Claiming concern for lower economic classes but failing to a acknowledge the basic humanity of another person just because of their wealth and social status is repulsive.

Abraid2 · 25/03/2020 16:40

@Wolfgirrl that has made me laugh!

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 16:41

They have an essential job to perform, they need to do it.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 16:41

@Wolfgirrl They're not being slated in the media for doing nothing. They're not taking headlines away from anything else. If they start getting negative headlines we'll probably start hearing about the small things that are being done (a bit like the constant small efforts to distance Eugenie and her sister from their father by 'leaking' small positive things about them).

William and Kate took the gamble of going to the NHS call centre to be seen when the first murmur of 'Where is the Queen?' started. They got a lot of criticism online for it because it wasn't essential and it was an attempt to make themselves look good, but it did quieten the comments. Any bigger gestures will be seen as attention seeking and trying to make popular gain by using a bad situation.

Until the press start mithering 'Where are they?' again they'll stay well out of the way

They also can't just start announcing things. Say they say "We're opening Buckingham Palace every day" and then because of the expected recession the government want to have more State Visits... It then stops being "They opened Buckingham Palace on X more days" and instead becomes "They said they'd open 350 days a year, but they didn't"

They also can't afford "Royals want government to discuss state visit plans mid crisis" headlines either

They know their position is precarious, it always is, so they'll be treading a careful line. And as soon as they knew Charles was ill there would be much more care being taken with William, just in case.

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 16:41

*It’s completely puerile to start bitching about their status in relation to the pandemic.

Claiming concern for lower economic classes but failing to a acknowledge the basic humanity of another person just because of their wealth and social status is repulsive.*

This is the biggest challenge our country has faced since ww2! They are the head of state!!!! I dont get why it is so unreasonable to expect them to do what they can to help and actually show they give a shite?

I'm not asking the queen to dig out some scrubs and clean hospital floors, but make SOME KIND of gesture of goodwill such as the ideas suggested above.

How is that failing to recognise they are humans? If anything they are failing to recognise us!

OP posts:
alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 16:42

And I have seen people worried on fb the queen has died.

Haplap · 25/03/2020 16:42

They're an abomination. Testing positive whilst NHS staff have to guess whether they have it. Come on Britain, send them packing!

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 25/03/2020 16:42

Claiming concern for lower economic classes but failing to a acknowledge the basic humanity of another person just because of their wealth and social status is repulsive

Who's done that, then?

It’s completely puerile to start bitching about their status in relation to the pandemic

No it's not. It's completely valid to point out that COVID-19 highlights the utter pointlessness of the royal family.

That's not 'bitching about their status.' It's a perfectly valid opinion.

It’s bordering on sociopathic to not recognise them as human beings

'Bordering on sociopathic.' Okaaay. Has someone claimed that they're sub-human?
