The Royals jumping ship...

A virus pandemic breaks out in the UK. Everyone is essentially on house arrest bar a few essential occasions. Businesses and workers facing going bust. People dying every day. Hospitals overwhelmed. Surely this would be a great moment for a morale boosting message from our beloved royals, who we pay to keep in the lap of luxury? Oh wait, a little recorded message has been deemed a health risk to the Queen (allegedly).

Oh well, they can always volunteer Buckingham Palace as a makeshift hospital or hub for supplies, etc, as I'm sure they want to do what they can for their beloved citizens, especially now theyve legged it out of London. Oh wait.

Seriously what are these people for and why do we pay for them again?

Prince Charles had symptoms of Covid-19 and still decided to travel to Balmoral, bringing his disease ridden ass to Scotland instead of staying home and self isolating as advised by the government.

One rule for them, eh?

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/03/2020 16:42

Prince Philip lives with his long term partner Penny Mountbatten and has done for years

Shock you what??

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 16:43

@Cornettoninja although your implying that I'm a sociopath gave me another laugh!

@TheNavigator you make an excellent point!

@lyralalala and @dyrne care to comment?

The Queen is important to many. Particularly the over 80s. That's why it's important she gives regular or semi-regular speeches. Many are still comforted by her words.
I feel the royal family should be doing this, at the minimum, as well as donating some of their vast wealth to the relief of the pandemic.
All those volunteers that have just signed up will be donating their time, energy, and petrol mileage for free.
The taxpayer-funded royals really aren't doing enough in comparison. Food parcels and visits to 111 call centres, please.
If they are doing far more behind the scenes, they really need to show it.

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 16:49

Just seen that film of Prince William joking about it!!

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 25/03/2020 16:50

I think it would make sense for one of their many palaces to be made available as a hospital.

... but then it will take a lot of time and cost a fortune to protect all their valuable items. For all they get for free and the millions they have, they should follow Kim Kardashian in donating money to support their followers (we republicans can die a slow death if they wish Grin)

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 16:50

@Wolfgirrl I've already roundly criticised the decision to come to Scotland on several threads

I'm starting to think there is a chance he went to Balmoral because he had symptoms. If he dies they will not want people gathering at Buckingham Palace to lay flowers and such shit, and there are idiots who would despite the situation. At Balmoral people will not be gathering.

It's not like he'd be going into hospital wherever he was. It'll be like when an Operating Theatre was set up for the Queen's births.

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 16:50

I am not over 80 and still want to know the queen is still alive.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 16:51

I think it would make sense for one of their many palaces to be made available as a hospital.

I don't

Not because they are palaces, but because palaces are old buildings with lots of rooms. Lots of rooms need lots more staff

The reason they are building at the exCel is because they can build huge wards, and also an onsite mortuary for the inevitable deaths

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 25/03/2020 16:52

But then @lyralalala, they are the royals and they are above the law and the rules. We are convincing people to stay where they are rather than rush to their holiday homes and what’s the first thing the royals do?

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 16:52

@TheMotherofAllDilemmas

The Queen has been out-philanthropised by the Kardashians?? Grin

I take back every nasty thing I've said about KK! Not even joking

@alloutoffucks, no offence intended. Flowers

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 25/03/2020 16:53

Not because they are palaces, but because palaces are old buildings with lots of rooms. Lots of rooms need lots more staff

Not if used as a morgue. Unfortunately, we will need quite a few of those In afraid Sad

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 16:53

@lyralalala

Sorry for not combing your other posts for proof of your condemnation of PC

People would lay flowers anyway, like they did for Lady Di

Think you're clutching at straws trying to defend him

Ballroom? Wherever it is they hold banquets?

This is quite macabre Confused

93 year old woman doesn't do precisely what you want at the time you want it. Face it, whatever she did and when, you would probably be criticising.

JudyCoolibar · 25/03/2020 16:57

Oh well, they can always volunteer Buckingham Palace as a makeshift hospital or hub for supplies,

Seriously, what would be the point? There would be all sorts of security implications, and when we've got mahoosive great empty spaces in the Excel Centre, Olympia, NEC and elsewhere it would be no more than a meaningless gesture.

Noodlenosefraggle · 25/03/2020 16:58

The Queen is important to many. Particularly the over 80s. That's why it's important she gives regular or semi-regular speeches. Many are still comforted by her words.
Agree. What is the point of having a non political head of state if they are not there to say a few words as least during the biggest crisis the country has faced in her reign, yet she's nowhere to be seen? Wonder if the Royal households are running on a skeleton staff or is it fine for them to be around 500 Royal staff but not a cameraman with a 2 meter boom Mike that they've regularly been using on the news? Other European Royal Houses have made addresses to their people. If shes too old to do her job, she should have retired.

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/03/2020 16:59

93 year old woman doesn't do precisely what you want at the time you want it

She's 93, mobile, "in good health" and has 24/7 care with multiple staff. Why can't she make speeches??
In this technological age, she need not leave her bedroom.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 16:59

@Wolfgirrl I'm not clutching at straws at all. I'm giving my opinion, which is all we can all do.

@TheMotherofAllDilemmas I think in this circumstance they'll have to use well set up morgues because there's going to be delays in funeral. If bodies were only going to be stored for a couple of days then it would be ok here and there, but they're going to need proper climate control because crems can already take weeks to get a time as it is.

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 17:00

@JudyCoolibar

Opening palaces for relief funds afterwards?

PC travelling to Balmoral whilst sick while we are told to stay put?

Granted hospital idea may not be valid but surely theres something else our multimillionaire head of state can do?

OP posts:
alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 17:00

@Noodlenosefraggle Which is why some are speculating that she has died.
This is their job.

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 17:01

@lyralalala so PC is worried too many fans will lay flowers at BP, despite the fact the exact same thing happened to Lady Di who sadly passed away in France? It doesnt make any sense. Any other ideas?

pallasathena · 25/03/2020 17:02

Oh come on! They have an absolute fortune in the bank and in land, shares, property, etc. Top one per cent of the country financially.
Is there an announcement for donating a hefty sum to cover NHS staff with hospital parking fines just incurred? Or a nice big cheque to buy in some much needed respirators?
Not a peep.
