The Royals jumping ship...

A virus pandemic breaks out in the UK. Everyone is essentially on house arrest bar a few essential occasions. Businesses and workers facing going bust. People dying every day. Hospitals overwhelmed. Surely this would be a great moment for a morale boosting message from our beloved royals, who we pay to keep in the lap of luxury? Oh wait, a little recorded message has been deemed a health risk to the Queen (allegedly).

Oh well, they can always volunteer Buckingham Palace as a makeshift hospital or hub for supplies, etc, as I'm sure they want to do what they can for their beloved citizens, especially now theyve legged it out of London. Oh wait.

Seriously what are these people for and why do we pay for them again?

@PeterPanGoesWrong If they are self isolating they surely only need one home for that. How about the other twelvty?

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 15:47

I knew you would all jump on the video message thing and miss the point of the thread 😂😂😂

But why go for the Queen? She has always rolled her sleeves up and gotten stuck in - from joining the WAC in WW2 right up to visiting victims of Grenfell and the Manchester attacks. She’s not a shirker.

Rolled her sleeves up? Hardly. PR nothing more. She HAD to be seen doing those things (hardly took much effort) if she wanted the monarchy to continue. Everything they do is about making the monarchy relevant. Got to keep those millions rolling in and keep their obscene amount of palaces.

Dyrne · 25/03/2020 15:49

Lifeisabeach09 the KensingtonPlace twitter account is showing William&Kate doing various visits to NHS people and video appeals for the charity appeal, as well as encouraging the mental health side of things.

The official Royal family twitter page has various bits and pieces others are doing.

The Express (all right, a bit puke inducing) have got an article about Princess Eugenie & Fergie doing deliveries to hospitals: www.express.co.uk/news/royal/1259901/princess-Eugenie-news-coronavirus-UK-sarah-ferguson-NHS-queen-elizabeth-ii-royal-latest

All found within a 10 second google of “Royal family Coronavirus”.

Pretty much everything people are demanding the Royal family do, they are already sodding doing . At least do a basic google before you froth off. Just start a thread called “I don’t think the Royal family should exist as an institution”.

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/03/2020 15:49

Or do you want a new message every day?

I'd prefer never but I know the elderly demographic I work with still look up to her--weekly, maybe.

EatCakeBeMerry · 25/03/2020 15:50

I’m not a royalist but the woman is 93 and her husband even older! I think we can let her off not making a televised speech for this one. Charles has it so is isolating as him and Camilla should.

William and Kate have shared a broadcasted message which is on their social media and been to see nhs 111 workers to show their support last week.

Princess Eugenie was spotted delivering supplies to nhs workers last week

The 2 that got away have been less than useful in their suggestions of becoming councillors if bored though

moondance19 · 25/03/2020 15:52

Are you doing anything to help anyone OP or just whinging on about others?
Most of us aren’t in a position to do much other than self isolate. We don’t have umpteen palaces lying empty that could be offered up to help.

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 15:52

@Dyrne 😳 cup of tea needed I think!

Forget the PR stuff then, how about the ideas I just posted? Which would be better actually, really helping rather than a photo op or whatever.

I never understand why everyone posts all like 'this thread is pointless and shouldn't exist'. If you think it's a waste of time dont comment?! I thought anything was up for discussion

OP posts:
Abraid2 · 25/03/2020 15:52

Councillors? Or counsellors?

BeansOnToast4T · 25/03/2020 15:53

Dammed if they do ......dammed if they don't!

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/03/2020 15:53

@dyrne
I never started this thread.
I love that your sources of info at the Royal's twitter feeds plus the Express. It, also, seems like what they are (apparently) doing are mere tokenisms.

Dyrne · 25/03/2020 15:53

moondance19 brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

So if she does nothing, she’s not doing enough; but if she does anything, it’s because she’s a PR whore.

Right.

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 15:54

There needs to be something on the TV news. Many elderly people don't use the internet and even less use twitter.

thatgingergirl · 25/03/2020 15:55

I don't think there are ventilators available to buy. Production of them is the issue.

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 15:56

@Abraid2 please let it be councillors I would love to see them deal with issues around waste collection etc rather than attending glamorous fundraisers and releasing soundbites 😂😂

royal family do, they are already sodding doing . At least do a basic google before you froth off. Just start a thread called “I don’t think the Royal family should exist as an institution”.

They’re doing practically NOTHING but look after themselves. Let the queen donate a few million for respirators and throw open the doors of one or two palaces, until then I’ll save my opinion that they’re a complete and utter waste of space.

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 15:57

I do think morale is important and I think they can help with that. So TV news should be showing more what the Royals are doing.
Elderly people are having to self isolate and are largely at home, many alone. It is a very scary time.

Cornettoninja · 25/03/2020 15:57

I quite honestly couldn’t give a shiny fuck what the royals are doing right now frankly.

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/03/2020 15:57

I didn't either @thatgingergirl until I read about Elon Musk purchasing from China.

Oh do give it a rest. Whenever something bad happens this old chestnut comes out

wibdib · 25/03/2020 15:59

She can't just sell a painting to raise money for ventilators - the paintings don't belong to her, they belong to the nation and 'The Monarch' - ie the role rather than the person.

Ditto isn't buckingham palace undergoing massive renovations at the moment?

HOepfully Charles is tucked up and recovering rather than thinking about much else at the moment. Chances are there will be lots going on behind the scenes that we don't know about nor do we need to know about at the moment - it's just gossip and pandering to people who think they have the right to know when actually they need to be getting on and doing stuff rather than putting out press releases.

SarahInAccounts · 25/03/2020 15:59

Oh stop it. Silly person.

Really hate goady fucker threads.

HelloBolloxMyOldFriend · 25/03/2020 15:59

Oh good. Another pointless thread complaining about the royal family.

MsPeachh · 25/03/2020 15:59

I hope the nannies and catering staff etc they employ are allowed to stay at home at the moment!

moondance19 · 25/03/2020 16:00

Dyrne you’ve got it. Whatever they do would be wrong. That’s because they are an outdated, undemocratic unnecessary burden.
