The Royals jumping ship...

A virus pandemic breaks out in the UK. Everyone is essentially on house arrest bar a few essential occasions. Businesses and workers facing going bust. People dying every day. Hospitals overwhelmed. Surely this would be a great moment for a morale boosting message from our beloved royals, who we pay to keep in the lap of luxury? Oh wait, a little recorded message has been deemed a health risk to the Queen (allegedly).

Oh well, they can always volunteer Buckingham Palace as a makeshift hospital or hub for supplies, etc, as I'm sure they want to do what they can for their beloved citizens, especially now theyve legged it out of London. Oh wait.

Seriously what are these people for and why do we pay for them again?

To be fair, I quite liked his speech. That's what HM or Charles should have done ages ago. Yes it's a drop in the ocean and practical help would be far better but for the age group most affected, who are more likely to be Royalista and give a stuff about what they say, it might have given some comfort. Watching William and Kate pretending to work is utterly useless. A nice address to the nation was the least he could do. I think the Royal courtiers are sitting around poring through social media and feeding back to the Royals. They seem to be eking out their responses day by day innthe hope it's enough, and they wont have to do more.

Lifeisabeach09 · 01/04/2020 17:26

Yep, nice speech for the masses but, as you said Wolf, no real help. Another celebrity donates to the NHS.

That's Charles' work over for the next few weeks
Work you say? Fondly imagining all the poor people selflessly scurrying around doing vital work, whilst he is surrounded by wealth and luxury, I thought that was just one of Charles' hobbies?

CKoRn · 01/04/2020 18:02

I can understand why the Queen is staying away, she's old so I can't really fault her for keeping her distance?

Her grandkids though, they should be doing something.

Clavinova · 01/04/2020 18:04

Joe Wicks is raising money from Google AdSense though - are the Royal Family allowed to attach a Fairy Liquid advert to their clapping children video? Smile

I'm really glad this thread was started - Prince Charles has gone up in my estimation so much. Another fan;

"His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is the recipient of The GCC Global Leader of Change Award, 2017, for his outstanding contribution to global environmental preservation and protection and for his passionate vision for a better future for humanity."

"The inaugural GCC Global Leaders of Change Awards, established in 2015, recognised transformational business leadership in ethical and sustainable development, during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris in December 2015."

"Eco-Age recognised His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales’ leadership, both nationally and globally and his compassion for people and planet. Among the principal achievements Eco-Age highlighted were:"

"The establishment of ‘The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation’ in 1979 and ‘The Prince’s Trust’, the UK’s largest youth charity, offering a beacon of hope and practical help to those disadvantaged and often forgotten in our societies."

"Changing the narrative internationally on the defining issues of our day such as rainforest preservation and protection, bio-diversity and wildlife preservation, stressing the importance of natural capital."

"The founding of ‘Business in the Community’, a group of not-for-profit organisations of which he is President, pushing the agenda on areas such as responsible business and enterprise, global sustainability and rural affairs."

"The launch of ‘The Campaign for Wool’ in 2010, to educate consumers on the benefits of wool internationally and help to support and grow the wool industry, in partnership with the world’s largest wool organisations and producers. His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales innate understanding that wool is completely natural, sustainable and recyclable, had until his intervention been mostly forgotten."

"Livia Firth, Founder and Creative Director of Eco-Age, said: “I am delighted we had an opportunity to recognise a statesman who has truly made a difference to many people’s lives through his work and given us insights to not just the issues, but solutions that can add value to people and planet. His establishment of the Prince’s Trust alone is formidable and I have huge respect for someone who is the highest example of what at Eco-Age we call an active citizen”.

Prince Charles a champion of sustainability ? The man who uses his oN personal train to go to Cornwall? Pull the other one.

Lifeisabeach09 · 01/04/2020 18:51

Clavinova, I couldn't care less where Wicks gets his money from. At least he is donating. As for the Royals, we all know how they got their money--perhaps, it's time they gave some back.

The man who uses his oN personal train to go to Cornwall

Not forgetting his short hop helicopter trips.

audreysview · 01/04/2020 19:08

I can understand why the Queen is staying away, she's old so I can't really fault her for keeping her distance?

Not fit the job then, it isn’t much we expect from the head of state. Time to stand down, her age is obviously getting in the way of her duties.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/04/2020 19:09

Or the private jet Charles took to the climate summit in Davos

Sustainability champion? Don't make me laugh ...

Greta Thunberg is a fan

Of course she is; give me about half a century and I might even be able to rustle up some regard for Greta's opinions Wink

Loving the link to Davos though ... the one where he flew in a private jet but swapped to an electric car for the last bit to make it look good

Clavinova · 01/04/2020 20:23

The 'last bit' appears to be 80 miles.

This thread has been an eyeopener for me - I'm impressed by Prince Charles' workload and enthusiasm. Some of the comments about him spending 5 minutes at work etc. make the poster seem ridiculous. No wonder the Labour Party (and the Lib Dems) were such a flop in the General Election.

And this week's PR stunt is... drumroll ... Wills and Kate phoning a hospital to say thank you!

I'm sure the staff were delighted, I mean who needs money for medical equipment, or an air ambulance pilot, in a pandemic when you could have a 5 minute phone call?

It must have been tough for Kate and Wills taking the time out of their busy tennis/swimming isolation schedule so good on them I say.

🙄

From Tatler (further photos were on Eugene's Instagram stories), PR delivery to NHS staff. The Yorks and Middletons (know the editor) are friends with Tatler staff.

The Royals jumping ship...
alloutoffucks · 03/04/2020 12:06

Maybe once the queen dies we should just get rid of the royal family? If they can't help us all in a time of crisis then what is the point?

Snog · 03/04/2020 12:15

Howabout before the queen dies?
Why wait?
None of them wants to be royal anyhow.

UYScuti · 03/04/2020 12:33

Of course the nurses will now happily risk their lives for the nation having had a phone call from wills and Kate

Lifeisabeach09 · 03/04/2020 12:40

Prince Charles has opened the Nightingale Hospital via video link (apparently he is in Scotland) today.

The wonders of modern technology, eh. Why can't the Queen get in touch with her public more again?!

Anyway, why they chose him to speak, I don't know. After all, he (and the other Royals) contributed fuck all to the project.
