No more Sainsbury's deliveries

They will now only deliver to you if they have identified you as elderly, vulnerable or disabled. I assume other supermarkets will do the same.

I'm glad they have done this, but at the same time worried that the supermarkets will be busier germ factories than ever!

My mum is 79 and received an email yesterday saying slots were opening today and now has a slot booked for tomorrow. Thankfully she had an account set up for when she had her knee replaced.

Can you amend your details to here on your online account ?

Marieo · 23/03/2020 12:47

@Frigginella hopefully, there's high numbers though and it will probably be nearly as hard as before. They aren't rationed out really, there's just a list and then it's every person for themselves.

defthand · 23/03/2020 12:49

There are people selling pasta sauce on eBay for £17 a jar. This profiteering needs to be stopped now.

TheGreatWave · 23/03/2020 12:53

You are supposed to already have 2 weeks of food in so you can self isolate. People were told to do that a while ago. You plan ahead for that.

Unfortunately I can't have two weeks of fresh milk in for my autistic ds who only eats cereal. We're managing at the moment, but it is another stress that I have.

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 12:56

Is there no one local who would fetch milk for you if needed?

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 12:59

@defthand I thought you could reort listings like that to ebay? They have said they will take them down.

PumpkinP · 23/03/2020 13:02

What a joke. I’m a lone parent to 4, 2 with asd, I always get online slots every week as it’s a struggle to take them all to the shops and I can’t even manage to carry enough food for more than a day or 2 with there being 5 of us. I have no family or friends that can help and have never had any interactions with my neighbours who are mostly elderly anyway so not in a position to help. There is no way on earth I’m asking a random of FB I don’t care I won’t Be doing that, will just have to go to the shop every day, or leave the older 2 disabled children at home alone Confused

GenderApostate19 · 23/03/2020 13:04

Iceland have done this too. I tried to get a slot for mid April but a message flashed up. No click and collect with Asda.

mylul · 23/03/2020 13:05

I am very thankful to Sainsbury. I am in self isolation due to high risk condition and was able to book a slot. I could not book any deliveries for weeks. I also was very stressed as having a toddler. Thank you Sainsbury!

PumpkinP · 23/03/2020 13:07

Oh and I don’t drive since not everyone does, so buses otherwise a half an hour walk to the supermarket with 4 kids. Angry

kateandme · 23/03/2020 13:10

anyone with mental illness and therefore cant leave the house got priority?because this is going to piss me off if once again stigma and mental health mean the illness isnt seen as needing help and being vulnerable.some mental illness means they will fall under the vulnerable list but like all else they wont see it will they.

Dodie66 · 23/03/2020 13:13

Just read my email from Sainsburys and it says they are PRIORITISING slots for the elderly and vunerable NOT that they are stopping deliveries to other customers. When the slots are available the vunerable will get an email telling them so that they can go an book. Any slots left will be available to other customers

kateandme · 23/03/2020 13:15

TheGreatWave yep thats a huge worry here too.only eats about 4 things.and not being able to bulk buy as uusual for these 4 items is terrifying.(its not panick buying)its been their diet for years so we obviously have to buy more of these 4 items as they are the only things in meal plan for the day.its getting really hard and their terror everyday getting overwhelmiong for them.

PumpkinP · 23/03/2020 13:20

There won’t be any left that’s the point, same as in the shops when they let the disabled and vulnerable in first, after that there is nothing left.

It's a joke isn't it, no wonder people are panic buying.

Rubbish. Getting the delivery slot doesn't guarantee that the items will be in stock. If you are able bodied and can get to the shop you have more chance of getting what you want.

PumpkinP · 23/03/2020 13:25

I was told not to panic buy on MN because if you have to isolate then “you can just do online shopping” anyone who thinks there will be slots left is living in a fantasy land.

PumpkinP · 23/03/2020 13:26

That’s not actually true as my online comes direct from the warehouse, I’ve had the majority of my shop each time. WHereas going to the shop the shelf have been empty.

I thought Sainsbury's deliveries come from the shop rather than warehouse. They certainly do my area as do Tesco, Asda and Morrisons deliveries. Only Ocado comes from the warehouse.

Yesterday during the Tesco NHS (etc) slot one local store had to close the doors as there was 1000 people inside.

I am not sure what the answer is, but the current methods don't really seem to be helping the situation either.

woodchuck99 · 23/03/2020 13:34

And there are no online slots from Sainsbury's whether or not you are deemed vulnerable.

AlunWynsKnee · 23/03/2020 13:39

Me too goldfinch. I have MS (and a delivery pass) but I haven't been identified and I can't tell them they've missed me (emails from several days ago ignored and I can't even get in a queue on the phone line) . I cannot book a click and collect slot either as there are none available.

PumpkinP · 23/03/2020 13:40

I shop with Tesco’s, I know this is Sainsbury’s but I think they will all follow. Mine from Tesco’s definitely comes from a warehouse.

Chouetted · 23/03/2020 13:46

I can't get my head around the fact they're only providing a phone number.

I am vulnerable and don't use phones for reasons connected to my disabilities. I rely on supermarket deliveries.

Not sure I fancy spending the next few months living off delivery pizza!
