No more Sainsbury's deliveries

They will now only deliver to you if they have identified you as elderly, vulnerable or disabled. I assume other supermarkets will do the same.

I'm glad they have done this, but at the same time worried that the supermarkets will be busier germ factories than ever!

Am pleased. My elderly mum who normally has online deliveries has not been able to get a delivery slot all week. We live 200 miles away so cant shop for her.
She is going to supermarket with other households. She should be avoiding others.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 23/03/2020 07:15

Is this true? It would be good if it is. We used to get online shopping but have deliberately gone to the shops instead recently to leave slots free for those who need them.

SapphireSalute · 23/03/2020 07:18

Might be why I can’t book a free slot today with asda

New slots available but keeps failing. Just won’t let me book

That’s great except our household consists of nhs frontline and retail still working long shifts. We can’t get to the supermarket at a time shelves are re stocked

RickOShay · 23/03/2020 07:18

Good for them.

How do they identify you?

niffynoonoo · 23/03/2020 07:20

are tesco doing the same?

Canyoutellilikrchocolate · 23/03/2020 07:20

Are they cancelling already booked slots or is this just going forward with new slots?

How on earth are they identifying disabled customers?

slipperywhensparticus · 23/03/2020 07:21

How exactly do they know who is vunerable and who isnt? My son gets high rate dla I'm his carer 🤷‍♀️

niffynoonoo · 23/03/2020 07:22

when u sign up, date of birth? Im on delivery saver tesco. Cannot get a slot no matter what time I try. I think Im going to cancel it. Its easier to meal plan shopping in store rather than wait for delivery and pot luck anyway!

VivaLeBeaver · 23/03/2020 07:23

Morrisons as well I think. I just get a message saying “no slots available “. Which I didn’t have yesterday, and there actually were quite a lot of slots for 2 weeks time yesterday.

niffynoonoo · 23/03/2020 07:24

Been using tesco for a long time. Reecently started delivery saver (finally) as it seemed sensible and saved money. So I can still cancel it if I do it now.

VivaLeBeaver · 23/03/2020 07:24

Morrisons near me not even doing click and collect anymore, but 40 miles away branch is.

BestStressed · 23/03/2020 07:25

Great now the shops are going to be even more overcrowded. As a retail worker this worries me.

boatyardblues · 23/03/2020 07:27

You can ring them if you qualify and haven’t received an email from Sainsburys to say they’ve identified you as eligible from their records.

LittleLittleLittle · 23/03/2020 07:28

@SapphireSalute see if you can contact the supermarket and ask if you a priority for Click and Collect.

moonlight1705 · 23/03/2020 07:31

So if in a couple of weeks time someone in your family gets a fever and you self isolate for 14 days then where do you stand?

We are not classed as elderly or vulnerable so we won't get a slot so someone in the house will have to go out and get food which defeats the point of isolation. Unless they unlock your account for a bit?

LittleLittleLittle · 23/03/2020 07:32

@slipperywhensparticus so I now have to tell the retailers my medical history so I can get so I don't have to go into a overcrowded supermarket.

Whynotnowbaby · 23/03/2020 07:34

What about the situation we (and I’m sure others) are in. Our parents send us their order request and we place the order for them. The account is in my name (from years ago- they have never used online shopping and Ocado is not open to new customers) but being used only by vulnerable old people at the moment.

smoooth · 23/03/2020 07:37

Whynotnowbaby This is exactly what I want to know. Have been trying to book a delivery for my elderly mum.

TheGreatWave · 23/03/2020 07:37

I am in two minds about this, it is great that those who are vulnerable will get priority for the slots, but if no one else is allowed one then as a pp said this will just cause everyone else to traipse to the shops.

As there is no actual way to prove vulnerability, people who aren't will, and non- vulnerable, non-cf's will never get a slot.

If the slots are opened a day earlier for this group, and then everyone else as normal, I guess it could work (only booking up to a week in advance)

CouldBeOuting · 23/03/2020 07:38

I hope Ocado don’t do that. As a school (key) worker I can’t get to shops while they actually have stock and don’t qualify for the “key workers” hours.... most of which I am at work for anyway.

My local co op confirmed that if I want to buy milk I need to go between 10 and 11 as it is delivered around 10 and sells out (even with rationing) within the hour. I will be at work looking after key worker children!

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 23/03/2020 07:39

Pleased to read this. I’m sure the others will follow suit. Deliveries must be prioritised for people who need them. It’s pretty stunning, that anyone would disagree.
