No more Sainsbury's deliveries

They will now only deliver to you if they have identified you as elderly, vulnerable or disabled. I assume other supermarkets will do the same.

I'm glad they have done this, but at the same time worried that the supermarkets will be busier germ factories than ever!

@alloutoffucks Why would you "simply have to go out"

Are you in a hamlet in a far flung Scottish Island?

The list of the very vulnerable group is already out - it's on the Gov.uk site already so you can check if you are in it or not in it.

belay · 23/03/2020 10:50

I'm ordering food for my mum who has no internet and I don't drive so wtf should I do now ? This hasn't been done fairly

Santaclauswhosthat · 23/03/2020 10:51

They can't cover every eventuality and scenario. They're not the government and they're not the only place in the UK that sells food. They're helping out some people, for now, on a short term basis, as they can.

Likely this will all have changed by the end of the week. Look at how things are different now compared to a week ago. What Sainsbury's are doing with their online shopping on this particular day is vanishingly unlikely to be the case for all supermarkets forever and it probably won't even be the case for Sainsbury's in a month's time.

MumofTinies · 23/03/2020 10:51

Well I'll be going to the shops then if my delivery slot gets cancelled, still self isolating but my kids need to eat too. Everyone needs food. The person who was getting food for us is also self isolating.

Marieo · 23/03/2020 10:52

Check out Asda everyone, they seem to be releasing slots intermittently. Yesterday I managed to get a slot for tomorrow for a neighbour, I will add bit on for my brother and hope we can get it to him somehow and that some arrives. I am a passholder so not sure if it makes a difference, but worth a go. Leave Sainsbury's to whatever mess they have made.

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 10:55

@Whalette I did not know that list had been published. I suspect most don't. It still depends on interpretation of severe. Will wait and see.

ClientQueen · 23/03/2020 10:57

@Blakes77 key workers and retail workers can go out. I'm not leaving the house at all as I'm on the extremely vulnerable list. There's no family to get food for me and my consultant has told me explicitly to stay indoors away from people
We need deliveries!

adaline · 23/03/2020 10:57

They can't cover every eventuality and scenario

Then they shouldn't be limiting deliveries like this. It's not fair. Lots of vulnerable people won't have the energy or know-how to argue their case and could easily end up with nothing.

It's not Sainsbury's place to decide who is deserving of food.

Whalette · 23/03/2020 11:00

@alloutoffucks You didn't actually answer my question... why would you "simply have to go out"?

Most people would be able to work out if they were in the "severe" category to be honest. They would know it is people who struggle to control their symptoms with multiple medications and require frequent hospital admissions - the majority of them will have been diagnosed with "severe" asthma.

PinkSpring · 23/03/2020 11:02

I don't really agree with this - it will make more people have to go out to the shops for food if they can't get it delivered.

This has not been thought out very well.

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 11:03

I do not have asthma. I have another very rare condition. If we are talking about multiple recent hospital admissions then no I do not qualify. I don't know why you think I should be able to interpret what severe means? I know it is not simply having an inhaler for asthma. But that is not me. I take medication every day for my condition.

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 11:05

@whalette Why would I simply have to go out? I may not. I will try and get others to help. But if it comes to it, then yes of course I will have to.
I still support this. There are limited deliveries and they have to be prioritised for those most in need

Santaclauswhosthat · 23/03/2020 11:06

Yeah the child in my house who is on the list gets steroid pills every time they have a cold and has needed a nebuliser a couple of times every winter for years so I guess that's severe.

Whalette · 23/03/2020 11:06

I have another very rare condition

Is it on the list?

And again, you didn't answer the question of why you would simply have to just go out when there are many other options you could use before becoming a spreader and putting others at risk.

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 11:07

Okay then I might be on the list. Will wait and see.

Whalette · 23/03/2020 11:07

@alloutoffucks Ok thanks for finally answering.

Turns out you were all melodramatic in your "I would simply have to go out" approach when actually there are other options

Whalette · 23/03/2020 11:09

@alloutoffucks The list is already published, you can check it yourself.

@Santaclauswhosthat Yes - unfortunately I think they will be covered twice on the list depending on if they are currently taking steroids (oral not inhaler) form :(

kevintheorangecarrot · 23/03/2020 11:09

I'm trying to book a delivery for my elderly father in isolation and absolutely no slots whatsoever

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 11:10

@Whalette It is a respiratory condition. They are not going to list every single rare condition.
I already said I will try and get others to help. Not sure what else I can do. Other options like milkandmore are not taking any new customers. So not sure why you are challenging this?

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 11:11

@Whalette You are being a shit now. Because I will try and get neighbours to help. I am sure they will for now, I don't know if they will for the next 12 weeks though. And yes if they don't, I will have to go out. That is simply a fact.

Whalette · 23/03/2020 11:12

@alloutoffucks I was challenging your "I will simply go out" which you have now said you won't do - so I am happy I challenged it.

Santaclauswhosthat · 23/03/2020 11:14

@Whalette fuck a doodle doo. That's done me in a bit to be honest. Good job we're on this Sainsbury's thing then. I mean, I knew it was serious but it's a bit different being on a government list of serious, if you know what I mean. Not currently taking steroids no but last course was in January. For a fucking cold. It always happens.

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 11:15

@Whalette Are you actually reading what I have written. I already said I looked at the list and do not know if I am covered. I will wait and see if I hear from the NHS if I am on the list.
I suspect I am borderline as no I have not had lots of recent hospital admissions, but do need extra medical management if I get a bad cold. And do take antibiotics all the time.

Pollydollx · 23/03/2020 11:15

I cant drive and have two small children. I can't get deliveries now either. It's great for the elderly they deserve to know they can get food. Abit of a nightmare for parents with children trying to stay home. What can you do though..... I have an Asda shop coming in a week but after that I don't know what we will do. I wish we could sleep the next few months away

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 11:16

@Whalette I will avoid going out, but will if I have no choice. That is accurate.
