No more Sainsbury's deliveries

They will now only deliver to you if they have identified you as elderly, vulnerable or disabled. I assume other supermarkets will do the same.

I'm glad they have done this, but at the same time worried that the supermarkets will be busier germ factories than ever!

Ocado don’t have anywhere customers can collect from so hopefully they will continue

maudspellbody · 23/03/2020 07:41

Moonlight
That's exactly my question.
My son has suspected CV. He caught it from his boarding school room mate, who has now been confirmed (in hospital as he has pre-existing lung problems).

I am a single parent and me and my two children are totally locked down for the next few weeks.

Does that count as being 'vulnerable'? I can't go to the shops!

swishthecat · 23/03/2020 07:43

As there is no actual way to prove vulnerability, people who aren't will, and non- vulnerable, non-cf's will never get a slot.

I am guessing they will look at whether you have disability benefits or social care, things like that. I do think it is the right thing to do. If the elderly and others have to stay in for 12 weeks, it makes no sense to have them traipsing to the shops.

slipperywhensparticus it might be worth giving them a ring? Do you get carer's allowance or carer's credit?

I got an email from Sainsburys yesterday, identifying me as a vulnerable customer. I have no idea how they knew this (I have an autoimmune disease and am on immune suppressants) but am very grateful to not have to brave the shops!

swishthecat · 23/03/2020 07:44

I hope this doesn't spark another round of panic buying.

People are saying they can't book after a certain time on ocado, it seems different for everyone. I suspect they are all going to do it. I think Waitrose are keeping food back for nhs workers, hopefully others are going to follow suit.

swishthecat · 23/03/2020 07:45

alohavic70 that's really good, it shows their systems are working.

swishthecat · 23/03/2020 07:46

BTW, they are still doing click and collect (but no slots!)

Homkaismycat · 23/03/2020 07:47

This is terrible.
I got lung disease and also heart condition but I don’t think I will be classed as high risk according to the current government list as I was not admitted in last 2 years
I m relying on deliveries..as absolutely scared to go out now.

Marieo · 23/03/2020 07:47

What data have they been given?

Jessbow · 23/03/2020 07:48

Its good that various shops are making provision for those in need- but where will it end?

Without sounding trite, everyone needs food, somehow or another- by the time those of us that are just 'ordinary'- ie not in a category that gets preference- there is nothing left anyway!

So we end up driving round and trying 3 or 4 shops- especially if you are trying to help your friends and neighbours- exposing yourself to everything out there more than they should need to.

it truly is a vicious circle

Fraggle45 · 23/03/2020 07:48

I'll have to ring as I should be on the list but it says I'm not

I've got a blue badge and am on immune suppressants

Does the email say what you need to prove your eligible?

TheGreatWave · 23/03/2020 07:48

You can still be in a vulnerable group and not claim benefits or receive care, and I am not sure a supermarket has a right to that information.

We have seen people swanning in and clearing the shelves of stock, do you really believe that these same people are not just going to claim they are vulnerable?

mochajoes · 23/03/2020 07:49

I'm happy about this but a bit worried about my mum who doesn't normally shop online.

jbiscuits · 23/03/2020 07:50

Moonlight you ask for help. We've been self-isolating, but have been asking friends to help drop food round. Friends, family, neighbours, my local church are all offering to help drop shopping to people who can't get out. It's just getting over the awkwardness of asking for help in the first place, but far better a bit of awkwardness than passing on the virus to others!

swishthecat · 23/03/2020 07:50

Homkaismycat are you on the other "at risk list"? Do you get invited for flu jabs? Do you get DLA/PIP?

OP posts:
BestStressed · 23/03/2020 07:52

I think your also disagree if you worked in a supermarket where your health is compromised every day as you come into contact with thousands of people, lots coughing spluttering and giving no thoughts to the social distancing guidelines. This is only going to increase the amount of people in there as if it wasn’t already bad enough.

Also as a retail worker who is at work most of the time I am unable to get any food myself as it’s all gone through the day but nobody cares about us.

Scruffyoak · 23/03/2020 07:53

I'm hoping to survive from corner shops

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/03/2020 07:54

My Uncle is elderly and I've used my account to get him deliveries. I'm not sure how I'm going to get round that one as he doesn't have his own account.

awkwardbuttons · 23/03/2020 07:55

Existing delivery pass holders are also going to be contacted. It sounds like the plan is that they get second priority but I haven't heard anything further yet. With two young children I am dreading lockdown if we can't get access to the food we need for them, and the stores near us are bare.

girlsyearapart · 23/03/2020 07:55

I also would like to know how they are going to organise this. I have MS so we are isolating. I get deliveries usually as supermarket shopping tires me out at the best of times.
But I don’t claim dla /pip/have a blue badge. Though I do get free flu jab 😕

Marieo · 23/03/2020 07:56

My DB gets PIP, they shouldn't have a right to access that information without explicit consent, they have chosen to do this and it's not a government directive. I find it quite scary if they have. Only those who have been told to stay in will be eligible for the assistance with food and prescription deliveries from local councils and the military, it's those in between, quite a few with MH issues that stop them going out that will suffer.

Squintybumcheek · 23/03/2020 07:56

I wonder how they are prioritising. I have as asthma so am on the high risk group so was hoping to try and book some online slots.

Aloe6 · 23/03/2020 07:56

I’d also like to know how they are identifying the vulnerable. Have they been supplied with government data?

RainMinusBow · 23/03/2020 07:57

It's correct. I have received an email saying I will be allowed to book a priority delivery slot today as I am pregnant. Not sure whether this applies to all pregnant customers - I'm 30 weeks' so third trimester.

I'm already in trouble with midwife as there's ketones in my urine which suggests I am not eating enough (which I'm not!)
