I need one loo roll a day

catflapuk · 21/03/2020 00:30

So I have been keeping track of it. I need one a day (if I'm working from home) and more when on my period.

My friend lives in a houseshare with two other people. She says they have 16 rolls at home, which is more than enough. She says that will last them a long time. How?

This is why I love MN.

filka · 21/03/2020 10:34

How do people clean their bits with a jug?
Use 2 sheets to get the worst off. Then jug in one hand, reach behind to start pouring, wipe skin with the other hand until you feel the skin all around is clean. You'll know when that is. Don't bother to dry off, it's only water and the few drops that are left will soak into underwear and evaporate from body heat. Wash hands with plenty of soap - you were going to do that anyway, right?

I live abroad and mostly we use a "bum gun" as I saw it so eloquently described recently. We don't even have loo rolls in my office, my staff laugh at the UK's loo roll crisis. I started this rather reluctantly as I was not comfortable wiping my bottom with my hand. But actually I've got used to it and now prefer it.

filka

I think that is pretty disgusting! I could not work or live in that situation.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/03/2020 10:44

TWO sheets?ShockConfused

floatygoat · 21/03/2020 10:48

Surely OP is not serious. There's just no way you could use a whole loo roll in one day for a couple of poos and several wees. Even with a heavy period (can't you just use tampons OP)

addictedtotheflats · 21/03/2020 10:51

Thats a lot of bog roll for one person. 1 roll lasts 2 of us 2-3 days. Maybe try using less per wipe Confused

BlackeyedSusan · 21/03/2020 10:53

Cheap loo roll needs more than two for a wee. Heavy period needs about 6 sheets for the first wipe...

Some conditions make you wee or poo more often.

Boredom: drink more, wee more.

mummatoreds · 21/03/2020 10:53

We go through one roll a day and theres 4 adults and two children... 1 roll a day for one person seems very excessive imo

Duchessofblandings · 21/03/2020 10:54

Blimey that’s a lot.

mabelbagel · 21/03/2020 10:55

If you need to use that much loo roll you should probably just have a wash after going to the toilet.

DamsonDress · 21/03/2020 10:57

😂 This thread. So it's us scrunchers who are to blame for the shortage, eh?

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 21/03/2020 10:59

I serously worry about your drains! Please work this out, if you ran out what would you do? Bidets are great if you have one, showers, shower attachment hose over the bath, , cut up rags thrown in a hot wash, jugs of warm water used over the toilet for period times. You are really using too much. Can you think about reducing the number od sheets for each wipe? The army way, a couple of sheets, one wipe, folded over and second wipe. Then wash

catflapuk · 21/03/2020 11:16

I just had a wee and my morning sh**.

I used two sheet to cover the bowl before doing my business. This is so sh** doesn't get stuck on it and I don't have to wipe it after.

I wiped my bum 10 times at 4 sheets each.

I wiped my fanny once with four sheets.

I wiped the toilet seat in case of accidents. Again four sheets.

It seems four is my default. I notice that when I poo I sometimes think I'm done so start wiping. Turns out more is on the way so I start from zero again. Not today though. Everything came in one go.

catflapuk · 21/03/2020 11:23

I will try and halve my usage. The army suggestion is great. I will definitely try that. I will also try thicker loo roll once this crisis is over.

Bum gun. I have seen those before in hotel but didn't know how to use them. I think I would make a right mess. How does the sh** not run towards your fanny if you 'bum gun' from behind?

This thread needs to be in classics.

VodselForDinner · 21/03/2020 12:32

This is just disgusting waste. You’re literally flushing resources and money down the toilet.

Production of paper takes a huge amount of water. That’s water that has gone through treatment- a precious resource.

ffswhatnext · 21/03/2020 12:41

Four sheets for everything? Wow

Even when I was wearing nappies for my periods I wasn’t going through a roll a day. I also have a fucked kidney and piss more than the average person. Still didn’t go through a roll a day even with a teen boy in the house.

When I was having periods, sometimes I would a quick rinse under the shower, even if I’d only been in there 20 minutes before. As my health declined I started taking a container of water with me to rinse on the loo.

Even now I find myself rinsing as I find when I’m peeing too much, tissue regardless of softness was starting to irritate.

*no bottles of water have been purchased to allow the rinse.

ffswhatnext · 21/03/2020 12:42

Never mind the trees cut down to make the paper. Not all companies recycle or replant

mypoorfurbaby · 21/03/2020 12:45

A roll a day is crazy even with a period.
And my period were heavy, like super plus tampon and pad every 40min heavy.

Seriously you need to get over the squeamish factor and 'wash' after changing.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 21/03/2020 12:46

So you know covering the toilet seat with paper increases your exposure to organisms? Your thighs/bum are waterproof. Paper isn't. Please engage your brain.

Try using 2 sheets folded into 3. Wipe then fold again.
4-6 sheets enough for most people's poos.

MustBeThin · 21/03/2020 12:48

I only ever use toilet roll when I use the toilet or to blow my nose. I'm being really careful at the min to use as little as possible, I've bought a box of tissues for my nose because they always seem to be in the shops and I'm using 2 squares for a wee. I can't believe how much longer a roll is lasting. I'm going to continue to do this forever, I'm never taking loo roll for granted again. Grin

HeyMac · 21/03/2020 12:50

A roll of day by yourself? I'm almost impressed. Are you an Andrew puppy?
If you are going to be home on your period just use flannels or something and wash them.

I've been thinking about moving on to washable wipes for a while after using them during the nappy years. Got them back out for now and seems to be going OK. Why don't you think about that? I can see someone further up has posted some nice pens!

megletthesecond · 21/03/2020 12:51

1 roll a day here for three of us. I have IBS.

Thelnebriati · 21/03/2020 12:52

f you only use flannels or family cloth when you pee then you can still reduce how much you use by about half.

SallyWD · 21/03/2020 12:57

We're a family of 4 and don't use one day! I find that very excessive. Do you buy the very cheap rolls that don't go as far? Try using less sheets per wipe.
