I need one loo roll a day

So I have been keeping track of it. I need one a day (if I'm working from home) and more when on my period.

My friend lives in a houseshare with two other people. She says they have 16 rolls at home, which is more than enough. She says that will last them a long time. How?

Talc? Do NOT throw talc at your nether regions ffs 🙈 Jesus, some of the advice on here just boggles the mind.

pollysproggle · 21/03/2020 07:19

One a day is stupid.
I use one a week for 4 of us and I'm pregnant so going more often.

HowIrresponsible · 21/03/2020 07:24

I have bowel issues too.

I use a baby wipe as it is so much more efficient and cleaner. Then just let it dry off or a tiny amount of toilet paper to dry.

You have to bin the baby wipes though

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 21/03/2020 07:27

Is this the new Mumsnet chicken? a single roll lasts a family of 6 for three-weeks?

That said, we should all be using the planet’s resources responsibility all the time. No one needs to wrap loo roll around their hand. And, medical conditions aside, one roll a day is hugely wasteful.

sqirrelfriends · 21/03/2020 07:34

Wow, one a day is a lot. I get through less than 1 a week in my bathroom. Granted I use the downstairs cloakroom occasionally but that loo roll hardly ever gets replaced.

caffeinefix · 21/03/2020 07:35

You don't want to get your fingers wet? Don't you wash them after?! One a day - you are terribly wasteful.

Ihateselfishbastards · 21/03/2020 07:37

Imagine how clean everyone’s bum will be when everything else around them turns to crap!

Megan2018 · 21/03/2020 07:40

And people wonder why the planet is fucked!
You have to wonder if a pandemic is an attempt to save the planet by thinning out....

I use 1 sheet for a wee, possibly a second if I need to wipe the seat. Poo varies but I’m economical with it. Just had Norovirus and only used just over one roll in 3 days and that included using toilet roll for cleaning as didn’t want to use a cloth like normal.

If we run low I won’t use any for a wee and will share the cloth wipes I use on the baby.

mumwon · 21/03/2020 07:41

use a plastic jug (kept in bathroom) put some warm water in & rinse you may a little paper for more - complex? poo & periods - but this will cut back (my Asian family regard loo paper as unhygienic - I can see their point)

ShakespearesSisters · 21/03/2020 07:46

@KatesMott I would recommend to have a tea towel in the bathroom to dry your hands on before inserting your lenses. Much better than loo roll which leaves fibers on your hand and won't shed like a fluffy bathroom towel, but keep it just for you.

On the loo roll front, we must use about 2 per week for our family of 4. I took out a subscription to "who gives a crap" last summer and still have a few of the original 48 left. Luckily my next box turned up at the end of February. It definitely lasts longer than the Andrex I used to buy and disintegrates well so good for the sewers. And it's all just paper, no plastic wrapping. Look them up.

gigi556 · 21/03/2020 07:49

OP, are you using cheap loo roll? We switched to Who Gives a Crap (order online) and 48 rolls lasted over 3 months for 2 adults who are at home full time (wfh). We have a potty trained toddler but mostly use wipes with him and as a boy only needs for poos.
Who Gives a Crap were out of stock but I put in an order with Bumboo last week and they look promising in terms of size of roll etc. I was wary of spending too much on loo roll but I did the maths and I think it worked out the same price or cheaper than ASDA shades. It's also decent loo roll and extra long.

ineedsun · 21/03/2020 07:49

Just realised that my family of four go through four a week.

I have been being much more thoughtful about how much I use though.

'We all have our luxuries though' Someone said this earlier. That's fine in a normal situation but where we have keyworkers and older people going without because other people are using 1 roll of toilet roll a day, that's not OK. Use a towel to wash your hands, stop wrapping a toothbrush in toilet roll, don't wrap it around and around your hand. Just think.

bettercaulsaul · 21/03/2020 07:56

That is ALOT. DH seems to never be off the toilet and we still only use on roll every 2-3 days. I don't ration the stuff either!

Jeleste · 21/03/2020 07:58

We are a family of 4 and use 1 a day or less. I dont know how you use so much. My kids are little and use way too much each time. Period is different obviously.

Aria20 · 21/03/2020 07:59

How can people only use one a week?! Do you never go to the loo? There are 5 of us here and we're now all at home every day so we use at least one a day!

catflapuk · 21/03/2020 08:04

How do people clean their bits with a jug?

OP posts:
ScrumptiousBears · 21/03/2020 08:07

I'm not sure how much we get through per day but we are a family of 4 and it's not one a day. That does seem a lot.

Bienentrinkwasser · 21/03/2020 08:11

We use one every 4 or 5 days I’d say. Two adults and a toddler in nappies. A couple of sheets for a wee, a few for a poo.

bellinisurge · 21/03/2020 08:17

Op, pour water on yourself. Pat dry with a cloth from a pile of six inch square cloths cut up from old T-shirts. Sling each used one immediately in a hot wash - collect in an old washbag or something similar.
Save the loo paper for poo.

Or just go to the shops. Not being funny because supply will get back to normal once everyone calms the fuck down.

I have a health condition which means I need a load of paper. Which is why I slowly built up supplies over the past year - no deal Brexit concerns.

But cut up T-shirts are my plan B.

PepePig · 21/03/2020 08:19

As above, really. Stop being wasteful.

As far as I'm aware, most bathrooms have a sink and soap in it. One sheet to dry then wash your hands. A toilet roll should last a week at least. Stop being precious when there's a bloody pandemic.

BuckingFrolics · 21/03/2020 08:20

Jesus wept. I roll a day? Because you "prefer" to use lots? Get real.

"Up, down, and one to polish", as my dad says.

BillywilliamV · 21/03/2020 08:20

Pile of rags, bucket of bleach, boil wash every 2 days.

The human race existed for millennia without looroll.

BillywilliamV · 21/03/2020 08:22

My teenage daughters do seem to eat loo roll. I have put them on a diet.

blackcat86 · 21/03/2020 08:28

DH has IBS so we use a lot of loo roll. Therefore I've always bought in bulk and we have plenty. He was up several times in the night with diarrhoea (probably stress). I'm not sure we need to be debating toilet habits, just be responsible for yourself and in what you use.

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 21/03/2020 08:30

Christ I cannot get my head around how you use so much!!
