I need one loo roll a day

So I have been keeping track of it. I need one a day (if I'm working from home) and more when on my period.

My friend lives in a houseshare with two other people. She says they have 16 rolls at home, which is more than enough. She says that will last them a long time. How?

What about using cloth wipes. Buy some or make your own. You could use them for wees and keep the toilet paper for "other" uses

Pinkerpellosa · 21/03/2020 08:32

Oh sorry. I see that's been suggested

FuckADuckie · 21/03/2020 08:32

Get a squirty bottle with water in and a stack of flannels. Squirt and pat dry after a wee.

Much cleaner than loo roll anyway. Flannels obviously washable.

UnrulySalvia · 21/03/2020 08:35

@WomanIsTaken I'm really fascinated - did you discuss this with your partner/children (pre - coronavirus)? Did everyone get to give their views on how much was reasonable? How do you know if they all follow the rules and bunch rather than fold?

Not having a dig! Just can't imagine it happening in our house!

Aramox · 21/03/2020 08:36

My 14 y old can get through nearly a roll in a day. It’s a nightmare, any tips...

FrangipaniBlue · 21/03/2020 08:37

Well, I do go for lots of wees during the day. Always have. I drink plenty.

I do too because I drink almost 2l of water a day, but seriously OP you need to learn to "shake your drips" Wink

BillywilliamV · 21/03/2020 08:40

I used to make enormously long plaits out of loo roll, after lights out at boarding school. I used to suspend the plants from the springs of the top bunk. Never alpha enough for the top bunk myself.
It's an absorbing hobby and you can use the loo roll afterwards.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 21/03/2020 08:46

It depends on what toilet rolls you buy. I 'inherited' some a few weeks ago (my DM passed away and had a stock) and they are lovely and soft but not very absorbent so you end up using far more. They also have a bigger cardboard thing in the middle.

The more expensive ones last much longer so you may not be comparing like with like.
Having said that I'm still not sure how a PP only uses two sheets for a poo. Don't forget some people suffer with IBS or Crohns disease so will need to use far more.

ReturnofSaturn · 21/03/2020 08:46

Use cloths and wash them?

PieceOfMaria · 21/03/2020 08:56

Give each member of the family a loo roll and tell them to guard it with their life. They have to make it last a week and if they run out they need to get inventive and that doesn't include stealing someone else's.

PieceOfMaria · 21/03/2020 08:58

Cut up old towels into facecloth sized pieces, run them under a warm tap. Stick in a bucket with some napisan then chuck in a boil wash when the bucket is full.

It's not hard.

Skeeter2020 · 21/03/2020 08:58

Do you think you might have a medical problem?

MaybeDoctor · 21/03/2020 09:20

We changed to Waitrose quilted just before this situation hit and it is so much better.

To ration it I have now gone down to one sheet, folded, for a wee. It really is fine!

For a poo I have to use quite a bit. However, I am experimenting with a new technique of putting a blob of body lotion on the area before I go, then hopefully it comes off far more easily.

Hope that helps someone!

JanewaysBun · 21/03/2020 09:27

OP you need to hold your toothbrush up at more of a 90 degree angle. Stops the drip Wink

inappropriateraspberry · 21/03/2020 09:28

And we wonder why there's a climate crisis? Where do people think loo roll comes from? You really don't need to use it for drying hands or wrapping used cotton buds! The mind boggles....

sparklefarts · 21/03/2020 09:30

One roll a day for one person is insane OP. How are your pipes not blocked?

GreyishDays · 21/03/2020 09:34

Have you tried wetting the loo roll for a poo? Just for maybe the second wipe. You’ll find you need less wipes.

catsmother · 21/03/2020 09:45

Bear in mind that not all loo rolls are created equal! It's not just the ply but the fact that the number of sheets per roll can vary quite significantly. Particularly so in recent years when the diameter of the cardboard inserts have been becoming ever wider in an attempt to fool customers that their roll is still the same size. Some of the cheapest products have huge tubes but are often a false economy because obviously you go through those much faster as there's much less actual tissue.

ilovepixie · 21/03/2020 09:47

We would use about a roll a day. 2 adults, sometimes 2 rolls a day.

browzingss · 21/03/2020 09:54

The thing is, you’re only causing problems for yourself if you run out of toilet roll and can’t buy any more. So there’s no point trying to justify it to us, you have to figure out how to tone your usage down.

I would genuinely look into flushable wipes - I know this is bad for the environment etc but in desperate times what is the alternative? There’s no toilet paper on the shelves. Or get a bidet installed

bobstersmum · 21/03/2020 09:56

You must be buying that paper thin shite to be using that much.

TheClitterati · 21/03/2020 09:58

We are 3 Females one adult 2 children, and we use on average one roll of "who gives a crap" loo roll every three days.

I just mention the brand as there is a lot on one of those rolls.

LuluJakey1 · 21/03/2020 10:04

Some people are so wasteful! You don't need more than one sheet for a wee and if you buy good quality you can wring it out, dry it on the radiator and re-use two or three times.
If you do sphincter tightening exercises, you can get a 'clean pinch' at the end of a poo and it requires only one sheet then. I don't, however, advocate wringing out and drying on the radiator for re-use of this sheet.

Everyone should be saving their local free paper incase we need to cut it into 4 inch squares and hang it on a nail inside the logo

inappropriateraspberry · 21/03/2020 10:28

@lulujakey1 oh yes, I agree. When potty training my 1 year old I taught him this! Now he goes to the toilet I. His own, flushes and washes his hands every time!

LangClegsInSpace · 21/03/2020 10:28

At least if your fingers go through it will remind you to wash your hands thoroughly.
