I need one loo roll a day

So I have been keeping track of it. I need one a day (if I'm working from home) and more when on my period.

My friend lives in a houseshare with two other people. She says they have 16 rolls at home, which is more than enough. She says that will last them a long time. How?

How has your toilet not backed up

Snowpatrolling · 21/03/2020 01:20

Wow! I have IBS and shit a lot, maybe a good 10 times a day. One roll with me and 2 kids probably lasts about 3 days!!

Escapetab · 21/03/2020 01:20

a DAY? is this real?

Thepigeonsarecoming · 21/03/2020 01:20

Someone already did the maths behind this!!! www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/dad-takes-matters-hands-quarantine-21721600.amp

catflapuk · 21/03/2020 01:20

Well, I do go for lots of wees during the day. Always have. I drink plenty.

OP, no it makes a bit difference - thin paper is such a false economy. It's easy to get your fingers wet through it so you FEEL like you need about 5 sheets to keep then dry. With thick paper, yo unever need more than two for a wee as they don't soak through easily.
It's alo that thin paper tends to scrunch up very easily, thick one you can even tear a sheet in two and it won't scrunch up, neat folds!

CatAndHisKit · 21/03/2020 01:24

*a big difference

catflapuk · 21/03/2020 01:24

Honestly, it's like a whole new world opening up to me. Lol. I just realise that everytime I stay in a hotel I worry the loo roll won't be enough. Especially if the one that is there has already sheets missing and they haven't left a spare one.

catflapuk · 21/03/2020 01:25

I never considered buying thicker loo roll. Will def look into it!

That is a lot. Just in case a shortage occurs however unlikely (and for cost but mostly the environment), try an experiment.
Wee, afterwards squeeze it, bounce a bot shimmy and shake🤔 then just blot or dab with two squares, you dont need to wipe the front per se.
Poo, if its v thin cheapo paper start with r squares, neatly fold dont crunch up; wipe. Subsequent wipes e squares only.
Next get a felt pen and draw 2 lines on the end of the roll following the groves of paper round.your ambition is to stick to the portion in a day. Just see if you can do it and within 2 rolls report back
How is the blood getting so messy?
Asian shops ( ones with all the plastic stuff outside) sell these stylish plastic jugs with a slightly curved spout. People use them to rinse off in the loo but you could put in water before you know you are about to do a cleanup, that way getting your hand and giving it a rub means you can blot it off with a small amount of tissue. Eyen I've been leaky I've found bigger and closer fit knocked with a flat long page with wings helps enormously. Moon cup is also a saviour. You just dont leak you do with tampons or pads.

I’ve done an audit 🤗

On an average day I’ll use toilet roll for:

Wiping after using the toilet
Blowing my nose
Drying my hands
Holding my toothbrush so I don’t get covered in toothpaste (maybe I need to revisit my technique)
Dabbing my eyes after inserting contact lenses
Wiping make up/hands that have make up on during application
Putting under my feet if I’m painting my toe nails
Wrapping up cotton buds if I’ve used them to dispose of in bin
Wrapping a tampon in if I’ve used one before disposing in bin

Clearly I ❤️ Toilet roll. I currently have scented ones too because I’m that extra. Each to their own though, and never had any plumbing issues in all of my years of gross over consumption.

I’m a big fan of kitchen roll too but that’s a whole other thread...

toothfairy73 · 21/03/2020 01:31

We are a family of 4 and currently got it down to a roll a day.. I had to ration my youngest was just wasting it, the final straw was 3 rolls in one day

TerribleCustomerCervix · 21/03/2020 01:31

I love these kinds of threads.

Something I never, ever thought about but then people from both extremes come out and suddenly I have very firm and deeply held opinions about how much loo roll an individual should use.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 21/03/2020 01:32

Holding my toothbrush so I don’t get covered in toothpaste

Sorry what

morriseysquif · 21/03/2020 01:33

One moist tissue during a period will reduce use of dry.

KatesMott · 21/03/2020 01:34

@ TerribleCustomerCervix it’s an electric toothbrush and I don’t like the feel of water/toothpaste which occasionally runs down it whilst using. As I said I may need to revisit my technique, but it’s just a small quirk I have. Just trying to be honest about what I use toilet roll for.

catflapuk · 21/03/2020 01:36

It makes sense to me to ration it atm as the shelves are empty. But generally I don't want having to be so mindful about every day items. It's quite strange having to worry about loo roll....

KatesMott · 21/03/2020 01:41

Anyway don’t want to take over OPs thread and I’m being mostly lighthearted, though truthful, in my responses-I genuinely use a lot of toilet roll. I can afford to buy the kind I want and I’ve never really given it much thought or had any issues arising from it. If there is a genuine shortage once I run out again then I’ll potentially need to revisit my habits and make some changes. It’s not top of my current concerns but who knows what the future holds.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 21/03/2020 01:43

I always buy the cheapest loo roll available. Because of the loo roll shortage we have found ourselves with some super thick quilted stuff.

I must say it’s a bit of a revelation. Far less is needed though, maybe not even half as much as I would normally use.

That and there's always at least one person that does something really weird like using it to "hold my toothbrush so I don’t get covered in toothpaste"

Crawls off to die of minty dribbly shame

FortunesFave · 21/03/2020 01:50

We're a family of 4 and we use about a roll every 3 days! How are people using so much!??

I think some people wind it round and round their hand and take four times as much as they need. I mean....how many poos are people having!?

A wee only needs a few sheets!

Thepigeonsarecoming · 21/03/2020 01:54

Well (prepares to be attacked), just cleaned out my gerbils and filled their bed up with half a toilet roll torn up for bedding...😱

PotholeParadise · 21/03/2020 01:58

I take a few sheet for each wipe. I don't want my fingers to get wet.

You're either buying toilet tissue that is too thin, or you need to grit your teeth and just focus on washing your hands after you've gone to the toilet.

PotholeParadise · 21/03/2020 02:00

KatesMott

Why do you need to wrap the cotton buds before they go in the bin, and why are you drying your hands on toilet tissue? Don't you get bits of tissue rubbing off on to your hands?

Why not a towel?
