Totally out of his fucking depth

OP posts:

Boris wants to get back to brexit. That is more up his street.
His chancellor is doing well but the self employed need help too.

The80sweregreat · 22/03/2020 20:53

All these experts look well though! They are following the rules n not caught it obviously.
Maybe this is why people don't believe this is real ? I don't know.
It's baffling.

SubjectMatterExpert · 22/03/2020 22:00

@theladyanneneville you have completely lost me. I haven’t suggested that you shouldn’t express your opinion. I don’t know if you are replying to the wrong person or if I missed something?

Oakmaiden · 22/03/2020 22:08

Where has Chris Whitty gone, though? I haven't seen him for several days. Makes you wonder if he is poorly/ having to isolate.

LittleRootie · 22/03/2020 22:18

Boris wants to get back to brexit. That is more up his street.

Looks like he's in for a long wait and by the time he gets back to it the political landscape will have changed significantly

TheLadyAnneNeville · 22/03/2020 23:41

@SubjectMatterExpert. Sorry, don’t mean to cause confusion. I just think that each time BJ appears he seams more and more befuddled. I think he’s totally the wrong person to lead In this catastrophe. All the Brexit guff...yes. But not this.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 22/03/2020 23:41

“Seems”! 😡

CendrillonSings · 23/03/2020 09:46

Seriously are you expecting people to praise him because he turned up?

I’d expect the fact that they were totally wrong when they ranted about him not turning up would moderate their bile a little bit. But no!

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 10:15

I would prefer him not to turn up at all. He's doing nothing to help at all and although I'm happy for him to become a hate figure (since he already is for me) the situation is too serious to mess around. He has built his career on lying and being a figure of 'fun' - the very opposite of what we need.

Get someone in, one person, to do the daily briefings. Can be any authority figure, a doctor, a scientist, a newsreader even - someone who can speak clearly and with conviction and who people can trust.

As Alaistair Campbell suggested (believe me, I am no fan of the lying, conniving bastard but he does know about communication) they should start the briefing with the numbers of people who have died and express their condolences. That is respectful and also helps to highligh the gravity.

Alsohuman · 23/03/2020 10:45

I completely agree with that, Rootie. I also think they should produce a bullet point list in very simple language of dos and don’ts, not as advice but instructions. My entire working life was in comms and the way this is being done is woeful.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2020 10:54

The use of advice is infuriating. He cannot not say if it’s like a verbal leap for him. Chris Whitty said it.

And they are not clear enough you sit there listening intently and they warble. Just put it up in bullet points agree.

And we are the engaged ones, let alone the average uninterested person.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2020 10:56

They can do a sound bite but they should be able to do an instruction.

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 10:58

I did not know that Alistair Campbell had said that. That is a good idea. Yes he is untrustworthy, but he is very skilled at communications.

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 11:00

A woman I know in her sixties was going to have a group of friends around. When I said that was not a good idea, she said why and that the advice was confusing. Lots of people who are not that engaged do not seem to understand what they should do.

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 11:01

Definitely that

PerkingFaintly · 23/03/2020 11:17

^ This. No waffle or ambiguity or need to unpick exactly what the speaker means.

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 11:28

Waffle and ambiguity (lies) is Boris's first language so that's why it would be better to dump him. He clearly doesn't want to be there anyway

Alsohuman · 23/03/2020 11:34

Do you think I should do the bullet point list and email it to them?

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 11:56

If they can't even do their own bullet list we might as well all give up the ghost..

TheLadyAnneNeville · 23/03/2020 14:23

And should the PM be unable to continue? We get Dominic Raab. Now, he WILL lockdown, I believe. I find him very scary.

GabsAlot · 23/03/2020 14:42

anyone know what time it is today still 5pm?

CendrillonSings · 23/03/2020 21:32

Enough clarity for you yet?

LittleRootie · 23/03/2020 21:35

Actually, no as you can see from numerous threads asking numerous questions.

Not that you really care.

MarshaBradyo · 23/03/2020 21:38

Better for sure

Alsohuman · 23/03/2020 21:55

It’s obviously clear enough for you Cendrillon so please explain for us stupid people.
