Totally out of his fucking depth

OP posts:

I for one think Sunak’s doing an incredible job. I seriously think he’s our next PM

We hardly know who Sunak is or what he thinks. He can wear a sharp suit and looks fresh-faced - he's 20 years younger than Bozo after all - but what else?

He took his job under conditions that Sajid Javid said were not in the national interest and that no self-respecting politician could accept. He was also happy to sit and play happy-clappy cabinet call and response with Bozo. So i'm not rushing to endorse him.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 17:01

It’s nice that Labour and Cons can like one person. I’m a floating voter anyway.

But I’d be much happier with Rishi and Keir in opposition if that ever happens (feels like an age). I really would feel we were moving away from politics with less reasonable substance.

1forsorrow · 22/03/2020 17:02

I SO wish if we HAD to have a Tory Govt. it’d been Rory Stewart who’d won. I agree, criticism about how Johnson is performing isn't anti Tory, it is anti Johnson. I think Rory Stewart would have been much more decisive.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 22/03/2020 17:03

Nicola Sturgeon...standing up and telling it LIKE IT IS.

Boris Johnson...sending letters.

1forsorrow · 22/03/2020 17:04

LittleRootie you are right of course, but when you look at their performance at the daily briefings he is more impressive. I think Nicola Sturgeon is the most impressive. Nothing to do with which parties they belong to, I'm not in Scotland and I'm a floating voter and some people are definitely doing better than others.

1forsorrow · 22/03/2020 17:05

BBC saying Boris will be on in a few minutes. I'm watching BBC news channel.

Alsohuman · 22/03/2020 17:06

but what else?

He sounded a hell of a lot more statesmanlike than the tub of lard. He sounded inspirational and authoritative, which is exactly what’s needed right now.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 22/03/2020 17:06

He's always late to the press confernece, was supposed to be 4.30

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 22/03/2020 17:06

it is anti Johnson. I think Rory Stewart would have been much more decisive

Yes

Iamamoleinthegarden · 22/03/2020 17:06

Boris Johnson is taking and reiterating advice from the scientific community.

You should listen to what you are being told and stay indoors.

The type of attitude being proliferated on here leads to stupid hordes of idiots in close contact storming Tesco’s infecting each other with a deadly uncontainable virus.

Darwin.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 22/03/2020 17:09

@1forsorrow...that was my comment but I’d actually like to see a cross party Task Force in place. This isn’t about Tory/Labour/whoever. This is about firm leadership, scientific based decisive action. And I’d lock Dominic Cummings up and deal with him later.

Clavinova · 22/03/2020 17:10

I'm watching Sturgeon on tv right now and whatever I think of her politics, she is very impressive.

Yes, but the SNP had cross party talks with the government on the 12th March - their MP on that night's Question Time said they were in complete agreement the government's plain of action.

1forsorrow · 22/03/2020 17:10

No it is Johnson's indecisiveness that is leading to people not taking this seriously. A week ago he was happy for large gatherings going ahead, big music events were on last weekend, thank heavens the FA had more sense than him and stopped the football or we'd be in a worse position now.

Clavinova · 22/03/2020 17:10

plan

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 22/03/2020 17:11

The type of attitude being proliferated on here

Ive missed this

What attitude..

LittleRootie · 22/03/2020 17:11

when you look at their performance at the daily briefings he is more impressive

That is true but the obvious reply to that is - almost anyone would be more impressive next to the bumbling shambling mess of Johnson. Sunak speaks nicely and clearly and looks good - but so far he's saying what No.10 are dictating. I'm reserving judgement til I hear him speak more on his own terms.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 17:12

I actually do want Johnson to step up and do well. As pp said about pilot and crashing plane. He’s not the worst but he does need to stop being so soft on advice.

1forsorrow · 22/03/2020 17:13

TheLadyAnneNeville, yes sorry. You are right, it shouldn't be about politics now it should be about leadership.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 17:14

He’s on now. Stay 2m apart outside.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 17:15

LittleRootie yes a fair point. Very different when it’s you at the top.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 22/03/2020 17:20

Ahh, fuck me! He’s waffling and thanking the nation for their fantastic efforts. He ought to have said that today’s “efforts” were good BUT NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Gatherings in parks and trips to the seaside are non essential and must STOP... if we cannot follow the social distancing directives, enforced military lockdown action must be taken for our own good.

Oh, and he’s sending letters out. To let people know they’re at high risk. What “at risk” person doesn’t know this? Aggggh!

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 17:23

I thought the actions are good? Loud children here - but care parcels on door to 1.5m to stay home for 12 weeks.

LittleRootie · 22/03/2020 17:24

How on earth can carers going in to high risk patients keep to the guidelines on social distancing?

TheLadyAnneNeville · 22/03/2020 17:25

@MarshaBradyo... have I misunderstood? I thought he said “volunteers” to deliver?

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2020 17:25

Sorry I’m not sure my two year old was really loud, always hard to get it all
