Anyone else bombarded by people saying we are going full lockdown at the weekend?
I can't work out if fake news or not!

Like some of you, I’ve heard that a London lockdown is being seriously considered and is imminent. (As London seems to be escalating at a greater rate than the rest of the country, at this stage.)

MsMooi · 18/03/2020 21:39

Does anyone know if the lockdown involves a closure of the borders? My mum is flying out of the UK on Saturday.. please no..

HelpFlattenTheCurve · 18/03/2020 21:39

People will still be able to buy food and get medicines. I am sure any authorities patrolling will be pragmatic if people are not idiotic.

We need to do this.

It can work.

Its inevitable. I reckon Monday.

willowpatterns · 18/03/2020 21:42

The police are just as susceptible to this thing as the rest of us, and it won't be long before there are too few of them to maintain law and order. So maybe we will need the military to plug the gaps.

DrSheldonCooperPHD · 18/03/2020 21:42

Why mention a photo and not post it?

OlivejuiceU2 · 18/03/2020 21:43

Yep it is coming. Friday.

Marieo · 18/03/2020 21:43

Boris just PM'd me on here to say that Darren on Facebook was correct. Rather than be prepared but wait for official announcements, to keep checking his status to see what's going on.

TwelveIslands · 18/03/2020 21:44

It's a shame people haven't been sensible. We only need a lockdown because so many are still ignoring this.

God knows what my step mum (aged 75) will think of it, she's been laughing hysterically at anyone deciding to stay indoors and going shopping every day. But it's okay as she didn't go to her exercise class. Confused

TwelveIslands · 18/03/2020 21:44

She's been going shopping every day I mean!

Roussette · 18/03/2020 21:45

My DD knows someone who works in Government and she's been told lockdown just London by the weekend

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/03/2020 21:45

derby that makes sense. Must grab some wine after I collect my worldly goods from work tomorrow.

tryingtoprep · 18/03/2020 21:46

I just hope if London alone is locked down the government ensures essential workers can still get around. Many police, doctors, nurses, social workers can't afford to live in London. They commute in. I worry about London's elderly, disabled, and other vulnerable groups.

MagisCapulus · 18/03/2020 21:47

It is in the financial times! London will lockdown first.

Rumdiddly · 18/03/2020 21:47

What does lockdown actually mean? Are we able to go for a drive in the car or to the supermarket??

SnoozyLou · 18/03/2020 21:47

I think it will happen, but it won't happen yet. Maybe a week or 2.

Restaurants, shops, bars and hotels are mostly still open. They'll go first, then I give it a week or 2.

IrisAtwood · 18/03/2020 21:47

What I find strange is that when DP went into a supermarket yesterday there was an armed police officer picking up some stuff and today we saw a member of the military in the car park of another store. We’re not near any bases. I can’t remember the last time I saw anyone from the military around here. It just made me think that people are starting to be moved around and become more visible.

nellodee · 18/03/2020 21:48

If they had any sense, and wanted it to actually work, and not result in a mass exodus from London to the 'burbs, they would do it tomorrow night.

IrisAtwood · 18/03/2020 21:49

My understanding of lockdown is that people are only allowed out to buy food, collect medicine, visit the Dr or the Vet and to travel to work that cannot be done from home.

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 21:49

And the rest of us will be the fucking herd.

It's all bull shit. They knew this was coming, they knew how bad it could be and they told us to wash our hands.

Now, it's too late. We're going to end up worse then Italy.

I ordered masks at the end of Jan and had been food prepping before that. Everyone laughed at me, even dp. They should have acted sooner.

Mother87 · 18/03/2020 21:49

Housepurchaseanger - photo??

Quarantined · 18/03/2020 21:49

I hear that there are plans for key workers to be accommodated in hotels. It also avoids them being caught up in household isolations eg if a child/partner gets a cough.

SnoozyLou · 18/03/2020 21:50

@PixiePowered They we're talking about using the army to move stock to the supermarkets and stock shelves. I know it sounds silly, but look how it is already, and it hasn't even started yet.

MagisCapulus · 18/03/2020 21:50
