Lockdown Rumours

Anyone else bombarded by people saying we are going full lockdown at the weekend?
I can't work out if fake news or not!

OP posts:
MedSchoolRat · 18/03/2020 22:18

"Gets it all done and dusted so much quicker"

Read Ferguson's report... lockdown doesn't stop it at all, just slows thing down sharply. Unless the summer sunshine saves us, this will still be going in late 2021.

Chocolatedaim · 18/03/2020 22:18

It’s all scaremongering, fake video, fake audio clip. Some guys brothers cousins girlfriend isn’t in the know it’s all dangerous gossip

Liverpoolarefab · 18/03/2020 22:19

I hope it is ! As it was very unnerving !!!!! But I do think it's inevitable there will be stronger measures - we are at the start of this - not the middle or the end - stronger measures will come - its just when x

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/03/2020 22:19

This is going to sound daft but I'm not local to London.

Except for trains, if you wish to get past the M25, can you do it without going onto/under/over it?

If not, it's probably quite easy to lock it down. Close all entrances to/under/over it. Reduce rail/underground to routes with the ring.

Confusedasusual78 · 18/03/2020 22:20

They need to do it much quicker than a week on Friday 😳
I’m in Portugal and it’s been declared a state of emergency tonight from midnight. They’ll tell us all the details tomorrow I think. It’s confusing as not sure if my dp is allowed to go to work tomorrow 🤷‍♀️ or what.

TwelveIslands · 18/03/2020 22:20

We need to slow it down so that the NHS doesn't get overwhelmed with a shitload of cases all at once. That ship may well have sailed though.

SoupDragon · 18/03/2020 22:21

There will be a lockdown. It won't be til after the schools have actually shut though (IMO). Once I've got DS2 from uni on Friday I have no plans to go out anyway.

TwelveIslands · 18/03/2020 22:21

@Chocolatedaim

Why do you think we won't go into lockdown?

Omashu · 18/03/2020 22:21

I’m looking forward to a lockdown so we can just try and adjust to the temporary ‘new normal’ instead of awaiting the impending news. Also I’m sick of people not taking it seriously! The longer it takes to start the lockdown, the longer those of us who are self isolating/reducing all non essential contact have to wait!!!

“It's happening this week my friends husband works in parliament and said it's happening x”

Sure.

LightAsTheBreeze · 18/03/2020 22:23

I imagine there will be one in London followed by a countrywide one later

I see the fake photo has been deleted

0blio · 18/03/2020 22:23

What happens if you don't live in London but are there for work? Are you allowed to travel (domestic flight) home?

maslinpan · 18/03/2020 22:23

There was a really good thread on what lockdown is actually like in France, I felt a lot calmer after reading that. Of course we will have lockdown, we are not more special than all the other countries who have already done it. The government announcements today have all been about the important stuff like banning eviction by private landlords, and looking after children with special needs, so I am feeling somewhat better about their handle on things.

Daisiest · 18/03/2020 22:24

We will be in full lockdown on Monday, London is going to be locked down first

I think it's a good thing.

SoupDragon · 18/03/2020 22:24

if you wish to get past the M25, can you do it without going onto/under/over it?

It is a complete loop. *

It also surrounds more than just London.

AutumnRose1 · 18/03/2020 22:24

Rousette I’ve got a friend in Spain but she’s too freaked out to help me with my question, I wonder if you can.

Would my elderly wobbly mum be allowed to go for a walk if I was with her? Saying people have to go alone knocks out a lot of people off the list but that might be the plan, I don’t know.

She can’t go far but it would be good if we could just potter for 10 mins outside.

LightAsTheBreeze · 18/03/2020 22:25

It doesn’t bother me either, I haven’t got much interesting planned

housepurchaseanger · 18/03/2020 22:25

@mrsxx4 no this photo has my friend in it, they are driving out of London to stay in the country. So definitely not sent anywhere else and she just sent it to me.
I would post but it has her face in it...

It could simply be a military exercise though. But it's still a photo!

sunshinesupermum · 18/03/2020 22:25

The photo is FALSE news - taken somewhere where people drive on the opposite side of the road and the 'army personnel' in the picture are cadets.

Eckhart · 18/03/2020 22:25

@Daisiest Monday? How do you know?

I agree, it can't come soon enough.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/03/2020 22:26

Apart from the teleportation chamber just past J7
No need to be snippy.

ACertainSupermarket · 18/03/2020 22:27

Some weird comments on here! Lockdown does not mean you are locked in your house!
But with the schools closing you need the condition of lockdown to ensure that the public don't just see this as an extended summer holiday.
Non-essential businesses close. Gyms close. Entertainment venues close.
Food shops and (I believe, according to European model) clothing stores stay open. But you go to them solo. In Europe, they need to take a form out with them to say where they are going and why. People have been fined for non-compliance, quite rightly - in some cases people who had been tested positive were doing very dangerous things like having cosmetic surgery or visiting prostitutes.
You can go out to walk or excercise dogs, within reason.

LightAsTheBreeze · 18/03/2020 22:27

If enough people guess stuff, some will be right

Youngatheart00 · 18/03/2020 22:27

There are routes over the m25, it isn’t a prison! Although I suspect closing it would cause sufficient chaos and gridlock it would largely serve its purpose. I don’t think it would be feasible though due to the need for retail and medical deliveries.

Chocolatedaim · 18/03/2020 22:27

TwelveIslands

I didn’t say we won’t go into lockdown, but that video that’s doing the rounds, with the military tanks is fake and dangerous.
To be honest I couldn’t tell you if we will go into lockdown or not.
