Anyone else bombarded by people saying we are going full lockdown at the weekend?
I can't work out if fake news or not!

I don't know about fake news, but it seems logical that lockdown will happen sooner rather than later.

TwelveIslands · 18/03/2020 20:57

It will happen sooner rather than later, it's the logical thing to do because of all the morons still wandering about as if nothing is happening.

willdoitinaminute · 18/03/2020 20:57

It will happen.

Babyroobs · 18/03/2020 20:58

It's happening everywhere else in Europe so yes I think it will be soon.

LanguageAsAFlower · 18/03/2020 20:58

I thought I was dealing with this all rather well but it seems really quick and I'm panicking a bit.

OP posts:
LanguageAsAFlower · 18/03/2020 20:59

Logical though. I need to calm down!!

I heard from a friend who is in a loop that the UK is planning nationwide lockdown from a week on Friday.

dollface19 · 18/03/2020 21:02

It will happen I think this wknd as close as Sat some people think

daffodilsandblossom · 18/03/2020 21:02

It is scary how quick this has all come around. This time last week we were just being told to wash our hands!

I do hope lockdown comes soon though, I am fed up of people ignoring how serious this situation is.

Windyone · 18/03/2020 21:02

I think the “Friday lockdown” thing is fake news but hey, maybe I’m wrong. There suddenly seem to be lots of people who have a friend of a friend who works in government and “they know”.
Logically surely looking at what happened elsewhere we’re a week away at least?
Anyone who says “it’s Friday OMG” needs to give their source 😀

TwelveIslands · 18/03/2020 21:03

I've a feeling it'll be sooner than a week on Friday. Think about what's happened so far in the past four or five days. Every day something more is announced, so I'd say the beginning of next week for that.

Russellbrandshair · 18/03/2020 21:03

We will lockdown. My friend has been attending hospital management meetings and it’s a matter of days.

PlomBear · 18/03/2020 21:04

Considering that I work at one of the services’ HQ and DH is a mid ranking military officer, it’s funny that we haven’t been told about the military lockdown isn’t it.

OhLook · 18/03/2020 21:05

Lockdown will mean the virus passes quicker. I'm all for it.

PixiePowered · 18/03/2020 21:06

This sounds ridiculous but today I went to pick up a parcel from The Works, which I had ordered before school closures were announced. The clerk was talking to me and we were discussing how things are so uncertain just now.
He told me that his wife phoned him today and said he had received a letter from the army, which he left 9 years ago, asking for him to volunteer. He had no doubts that if he were still in the reserve's he'd have no choice but to agree.

I didn't think of lockdown until I heard this.

wormshuffled · 18/03/2020 21:06

Does anyone know how much notice was given in Spain and Italy prior to the lockdown?

My 2 big ones are both at uni, coming back on sat.... Are we theoretically likely to be told on Friday its a lockdown now, no movement? Is travel OK within a car?
Or will it say, lock down in 3 days? I would hate for them to be stranded.

Windyone · 18/03/2020 21:07

Thank you @PlomBear

Russellbrandshair · 18/03/2020 21:09

DH is a mid ranking military officer, it’s funny that we haven’t been told about the military lockdown isn’t it

Why would you think it’s a military lockdown?! That’s a bit OTT for something that can be managed by police

bemoreeverything · 18/03/2020 21:13

Everyone has a friend in the know. Except for the people actually have a friend in the know, those people haven't heard a thing about it Hmm

fedup21 · 18/03/2020 21:13

As it stands, schools will be open for vulnerable children and key worker children. If we go into lockdown, would that continue?

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 21:15

London will this weekend 😔

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 21:15

They can't tell us too early. It will create mass panic. They'll do it gradually.

Russellbrandshair - er because everyone keeps mentioning a military lockdown and the army on the streets?

Russellbrandshair · 18/03/2020 21:18

I think that would be way too harsh to go straight to the military. It would scare people and cause panic. I think they’ll start with just the police.
