Do you think the Queen should address the nation?

Just that really.

I wonder if it would help people 'pull together'. Whether you are a Royalist or not I think it might help allay some fears.

Of course, I am aware that the Queen is probably worrying about herself and her DH etc.

I think she'd do more for getting the elderly to stay home that Boris Johnson's dad.

NoemieNioche · 18/03/2020 12:22

God no. Why?

One of the upsides of all this is that it will highlight what a complete and utter fucking irrelevance the royal family is.

TheMemoryLingers · 18/03/2020 12:23

I'm not a Royalist but actually, this is one of the rare times I think the Queen might be able to do something genuinely useful.

TimeForPlentyIn2020 · 18/03/2020 12:24

Yes.

NotEnoughTime · 18/03/2020 12:24

That's what I'm thinking Mashed she is very well respected by many of the 'older' generation.

PurpleDaisies · 18/03/2020 12:24

No.

DobbyLovesSocks · 18/03/2020 12:24

The RF are strangely quiet right now - do you reckon ones of them has died and they are keeping it quiet ??

IStressheadI · 18/03/2020 12:25

I think it might help the older generation to listen up and stay home, they generally tend to be fond of the Queen (except my rebel grandad).

It wouldn't help me but it might help some people, so it's worth doing.

katkit · 18/03/2020 12:25

ooh yes! I do.

PurpleDaisies · 18/03/2020 12:25

No dobby, and that’s a pretty tasteless suggestion.

Rosehip10 · 18/03/2020 12:25

At least Corona has finished the crazy Harry and Meghan obsession.

TheMemoryLingers · 18/03/2020 12:26

That hadn't occurred to me, Dobby but it's faintly possible as they wouldn't want to do anything that might attract a crowd.

NotEnoughTime · 18/03/2020 12:26

It has crossed my mind too Dobby

Yes.

For the record I think the monarchy should either be abolished or slimmed down to the extent that it's just the Monarch and their immediate family that do anything.

Many older people might pay attention to the guidelines if she made a speech. Not in front of a gold piano though.

TwelveIslands · 18/03/2020 12:27

If one of the RF had had coronavirus and died it would be a pretty good way of getting more folk to pay attention to the staying at home advice so no, they are all alive.

NoemieNioche · 18/03/2020 12:28

Please don't make assumptions about the 'older generation'. My late 80s parents both despise the institution of royalty.

Eireni · 18/03/2020 12:29

I thought it was odd the headline was ‘Queen self-isolates at Windsor’, I wondered where Phil was!

Queenie addressing the nation could only be a good thing I think. Presumably her speech would be checked by the medics to ensure it didn’t have any conflicting advice. Those who don’t care won’t care; those who do may find it comforting and reassuring, and yes it may help persuade some of our elders of the seriousness of the situation and encourage them to stay in etc.

NotEnoughTime · 18/03/2020 12:30

I don't think Dobby is being 'tasteless' PurpleDaisies I think there is a real possibility that PP could have died (due to his age and general health) etc.

BadCatDirtyCat · 18/03/2020 12:30

I'm not a royalist at all, but yes, I actually think she should. Some well chosen words could really help bolster morale and keep people calm while also getting them to appreciate that we all have to to our bit, even if we ourselves are not particularly vulnerable.

Bumpsadaisie · 18/03/2020 12:31

I think they are holding off until it gets really bad and we are officially locked down.

Then HM might do a speech like the Xmas Speech to tell us all to keep calm and carry on.

I hope HM and David Attenborough are taking very good care of themselves, I think it would be very traumatic to the nation to lose them right now!

UYScuti · 18/03/2020 12:31

Maybe she can't because she's coughing too much?

NotEnoughTime · 18/03/2020 12:32

That's why I said MANY of the older generation NoemieNioche ie not all Confused

OP posts:
SauvignonBlanche · 18/03/2020 12:32

God no! Shock
Let the old dear stay at home Crown

UYScuti · 18/03/2020 12:33

Maybe all the 'national treasures' should do a joint press conference to try and get the old people to do as they're told so that'll be Judi dench, David Attenborough.. who else

Fartintheloft · 18/03/2020 12:33

Yes I really do, I said this to my husband the other day. In the past, the reigning queen/king have always addressed the nation in times like these, so it really does seem fitting. (I suppose I’m half a royalist if there is such a thing!)
