Do you think the Queen should address the nation?

Just that really.

I wonder if it would help people 'pull together'. Whether you are a Royalist or not I think it might help allay some fears.

Of course, I am aware that the Queen is probably worrying about herself and her DH etc.

Yes. I’m surprised she hasn’t yet. Her dad would have it different times I guess

turkeyontheplate · 18/03/2020 13:47

I mean, I personally wouldn't care to hear anything the parasitical sociopathic muppet had to say. She's an utter irrelevance and an embarrassment to me.

She may, however, have some use in persuading recalcitrent members of the blue passport brigade to start taking this pandemic seriously and stay at home. So that's a rare opportunity for her to get off her privileged arse and earn a tiny fraction of her keep.

AdaColeman · 18/03/2020 13:49

Yes, I'd like to see messages from Her Maj and Charles.

Something along the lines of, they were about to donate several million from their vast personal fortunes to support hospitals nurses and doctors in these unprecedented times.
I suspect I will wait a long time for that though!

GameSetMatch · 18/03/2020 14:10

I don’t like the royals but I do think she should give a statement and encourage the older generation to stay in doors, they are more likely to listen to her and she gives people a boost.

DeadButDelicious · 18/03/2020 14:13

Yes.

I think she should say something given the severity of the situation.

Notredamn · 18/03/2020 14:17

You would have thought so. I highly doubt she gives a flying sexual encounter what anyone thinks or feels, more bothered about ticking off her grandson for daring to use the word 'royal' and clanging bells for her pervert son.

MmeAlice · 18/03/2020 14:18

The government should be pulling out all the stops to communicate with the people. The Queen in one of those tools (excuse the pun). It can't hurt but might get a proportion of the populace to take note that hadn't before.

I'm in Denmark and they pulled Queenie out the bag last night to talk to the Nation. It's all over social media today, as if 'Mum' has spoken.

UYScuti · 18/03/2020 14:20

I think queenie has read the mood music and realised that now is not the time to be showing her face, she looks a bit too much like the elderly version of Marie Antoinette

CoolCarrie · 18/03/2020 14:25

No, we aren’t at war, and what the hell would she say?

Cheesecake53 · 18/03/2020 14:26

No.

SpaghettiSharon · 18/03/2020 14:27

Couldn’t think of anything more irrelevant!

LikeDuhWhatever · 18/03/2020 14:27

No, the queen shouldn’t address the nation. She is not a doctor, professor or someone medical who knows their shit about this shit. She is no politician either. She is holed up in a palace, protected by fire-breathing dragons against bacterial- and viral infections. What the hell does she have to do with the plebs and our everyday lives?

CoolCarrie · 18/03/2020 14:28

Why would she send thoughts and prayers nonsense to China ffs? It’s their bloody fault

DishingOutDone · 18/03/2020 14:55

They'll be holding her in reserve for another week at least.

alittlecloudfloatinginthesky · 18/03/2020 15:13

I think she should (or Charles) and I find the concept of royalty, of being considered to be better than the rest of the population just by being born, pretty abhorrent.

People aren't listening to the politicians, they aren't listening to the people in charge of supermarkets etc.
We need to try something else to get the message across.
They'll break out Queenie when Boris is finally forced into being decisive... When he says we're to properly lockdown, rather than just telling people that they might like to maybe, you know, if they feel like it, think about not going out so often.

HappyHammy · 18/03/2020 15:15

maybe she is better off being inside at Windsor with as little contact with non essential people rather than being in a room full of the media.

Graphista · 18/03/2020 17:27

Pretty sure there would be a laptop or pc that a member of the household could help her set up to skype/record an address from.

I am no royalist far from, but yes I see your point op. I think there are a lot of folk of all ages who might listen more to the Queen than politicians.

I think it is also actually the least she can do to show a pretence at compassion for the rest of us too.

Graphista · 18/03/2020 17:35

Also like pps idea of messages from other older respected celebrities but ones who are considered to be scientific/informed:

David Attenboroug
Joan bakewell
Anne diamond
Anne Robinson
Trevor McDonald
Michael Aspel
Michael Buerk
Lynn Faulds wood
John Stapleton

Now I'm not saying I'm necessarily a fan of these people myself always but they're the kind of people my parents, aunts and uncles would listen to!

HappyHammy · 18/03/2020 17:38

Anything is worth trying. I am exasperated by my own family still going to the pub hairdressers and shops.

ChipsyChopsy · 18/03/2020 17:40

Yes, I've thought it for a few days now. Surely it's in the job description.

HappyHammy · 18/03/2020 17:45

Maybe Philip or Queen are poorly themselves and its not appropriate at the moment😒

BMW6 · 18/03/2020 17:47

I think she will when things are judged to be at or approaching their worst.

BeetrootBasil · 18/03/2020 18:03

'Queen visits xx hospital to meet frontline staff and patients'. Not a headline we will see. I think she is sensibly keeping out of sight. The focus should not be on her right now.

TheClitterati · 18/03/2020 18:14

YABU to expect the queen to do anything useful. I do love her bless, but she's a very expensive decoration.
