Do you think the Queen should address the nation?

Just that really.

I wonder if it would help people 'pull together'. Whether you are a Royalist or not I think it might help allay some fears.

Of course, I am aware that the Queen is probably worrying about herself and her DH etc.

Well, I suppose she was unlikely to say ‘Philip and I have decided to make do with no footmen and to make our own beds for once in a way.’

I'm watching the news and there's something about the Queen and her message to the Nation Hmm

TBH , I give not the Shiniest of Shites .

An obscenely wealthy person who has never in her life gone to the fridge and found it bare .
Or the risk of no loo roll or soap.
Or are her animals going to be fed
Or the babies in the family getting milk or nappies
Or worried about getting on public transport with all the risks of infection.
Or if when she's ill that there might not be a Dr or a Hospital Bed
If her children are safe to go to school or if there's a school for them to go to.
Or if her elderly parents are going to be able to get food. Care. Health care .
Or that she can only speak to her GP by phone if she can get through

So no, I don't give a fuck if she make a statement to the nation.

I don't care is she gives me a virtual pat on the head as I haul myself off to my NHS patient facing job.

NeckPainChairSearch · 19/03/2020 23:05

Something along the lines of, they were about to donate several million from their vast personal fortunes to support hospitals nurses and doctors in these unprecedented times

This, in more spadefuls than can be counted.

It's times like this that the scales should fall from the eyes of the most fervent flag-waver. The royal family is utterly, ridiculously out of date and insanely expensive. The country will be on its knees after COVID-19.

The royal family has never been so irrelevant.

UYScuti · 19/03/2020 23:39

I feel that many have now suddenly seen the queen in a very different light....

UYScuti · 19/03/2020 23:40

Here we are all falling apart and she sits atop a pile of wealth like smaug the dragon on his hoard of gold

NeckPainChairSearch · 19/03/2020 23:47

I'm getting the same feeling as when Diana died. The stone-cold realization that despite 'modernizing' itself, there are moments when the royal family - the queen - is so demonstrably tone-deaf, so pointless that it's jaw-dropping.

JemimaTab · 19/03/2020 23:53

I honestly don’t think she gives a shite. It would appear that that useless lazy oaf William is now being pushed forward as the “face” of the Royal Family as far as the virus is concerned. FFS. He was joking about it publicly only about a week ago. Not a clue.

UYScuti · 20/03/2020 00:00

Queenie is just long long past her sell-by date isn't she! 🙄🙈
I mean she really is an artefact from a bygone age
She doesn't belong in a palace, she belongs in a museum!

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2020 05:36

Queenie is just long long past her sell-by date isn't she

They all are. All their pointless faces that we’re meant to care about. William uploaded an Instagram post. That must have been taxing in our hour of need. They are state funded privileged fluff and this pandemic makes that very clear.

TheMemoryLingers · 20/03/2020 07:47

If the Royals really wanted to help they could offer some of their estates to be used as overflow hospital accommodation.

NeckPainChairSearch · 20/03/2020 11:48

Agree with both pp ^

UYScuti · 20/03/2020 11:52

Only thing the royals want to do is maintain their position of superiority, floating high above the rest of us insulated from all the things that we have to deal with

niffynoonoo · 20/03/2020 12:05

whatever we think of the royal family , I do think if she were to address the nation then the older people in particular would actually listen and actually do some isolating/ social distancing!!

It wouldnt hurt to try!

UYScuti · 20/03/2020 12:15

Whilst people still respect and look up to members of the royal family I agree that Queen could do some good work by spreading the right message
but I feel that respect for the royal family is rapidly dwindling even amongst their 'base', a message the previously brought comfort and and inspiration now just makes people roll their eyes
The royal family are relics from the past, they do not fit into the modern world.

eddiemairswife · 20/03/2020 15:25

I bet she's got plenty of toilet rolls.

IndoorWeather · 20/03/2020 21:40

I assume her advisors think that a woman who lives at a considerable ‘social distance’ (in every sense) from her subjects, and who lives in spaces so large hundreds of people could comfortably self-isolate in them, would risk looking even more irrelevant and privileged if she went on tv and lectured the nation on social distancing and self-isolation.

UYScuti · 20/03/2020 21:46

looking even more irrelevant and privileged
would it even be possible?
Are there really higher levels of irrelevance and privilege which go beyond those on display??

IndoorWeather · 20/03/2020 21:58

Well, I’m in Ireland, and all the public service broadcasting on how to safely self-isolate at home if you live with other people was about practical things like the self-isolating person using the bathroom last and cleaning and disinfecting it thoroughly before anyone else did, and double-bagging rubbish from the person, leaving it outside long enough for any virus to die before putting it in the bin etc. Stuff that assumes a family living in a small house where people share space and doesn’t have daily domestic help.

The Queen sitting in a room the size of a football pitch instructing us on disinfecting our bathroom properly and hot washing towels separately would be Spitting Image territory.

Lifeisabeach09 · 20/03/2020 22:02

What for???

So she can highlight the massive disparity between her self-isolation in her massive castle with extensive gardens to the self-isolation of a low-income family of four in their 2-bedroomed 10th floor flat.

No, thank you.

Lifeisabeach09 · 20/03/2020 22:04

Yes, yes, yes.

TheSandman · 20/03/2020 22:14

Define 'older people'. I'm 60. Is that older? As far as I'm concerned I don't give a flying fuck what the privileged old waste of money thinks. Nor (though she wouldn't say it in such 'unladylike' terms) does my 80 year old mum.

I don't know any active 'older people' who have expressed one ounce of interest in what she might think about anything.

JemimaTab · 20/03/2020 22:16

It’s all a bit poor. She has fucked off to another of her enormous palaces (Windsor) and “issued” a statement which someone else wrote and to which I am willing to bet she had no actual input. Meanwhile, the DM is reporting that the Royal Family are in “daily contact” with their medical team. Well thank fuck for that. The Royal Family is OK, hurrah. Whereas the rest of us out here in the real world are lucky if we can get through to the NHS helpline.

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2020 22:19

God to have a medical team on standby, a ventilator, probably some good treatment. I’m so glad the royal family exists for us subjects.

UYScuti · 20/03/2020 22:36

I’m so glad the royal family exists for us subjects
it so gladdens the heart of us lowly peasants to know that they, the special ones will be protected at all costs, how would we get through our labours and privations if we couldnt be sure that they were safe

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2020 22:37

Lol UY quite
