Do you think the Queen should address the nation?

Just that really.

I wonder if it would help people 'pull together'. Whether you are a Royalist or not I think it might help allay some fears.

Of course, I am aware that the Queen is probably worrying about herself and her DH etc.

Yeah I heard that too, so she maybe a bit busy

Fatted · 18/03/2020 19:00

I'd love to see Kate and Wills helping out at the check out of their local Asda. Get Harry and Megan down to A&E. Make them earn their money.

LittleSweet · 18/03/2020 19:02

I guess she doesn't dare say anything incase it reminds people about Prince Andrew and Megxit.

Dilbertian · 18/03/2020 19:08

Indeed. Whether you are Republican or Royalist, it is time for the Head of State to step up and do the job, if she and her Firm are anything more than an expensive tourist attraction. If not the Queen, then Charles or William.

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 19:09

No I don’t want to hear from a royal atm

maa1992 · 18/03/2020 19:42

Yeah, she should. She'd reassure a lot of elderly people and tbh it would be good for the morale if she spoke out

Mlou32 · 18/03/2020 19:44

No. It is our Prime Ministers job. It isn't really something for the Queen to get involved in.

screamer1 · 18/03/2020 20:14

Or she could sell one of her crowns.

NotEnoughTime · 18/03/2020 22:46

Thanks everyone. I have enjoyed reading your responses :)

Yes.

IndoorWeather · 18/03/2020 23:23

I reckon she’s still sulking from having been depicted as stonehearted and merely flourishing a bone-dry hanky at the Aberfan cameras by The Crown. Probably tippling and hissing ‘Fark you, disloyal subjects!’

LuluJakey1 · 18/03/2020 23:25

The Queen Mother was never forgotten for what she did during the war when she refused to take her children and leave England or London, saying something like 'The Princesses would never go without me and I would not leave the King and he will not leave London.' Then after Buckingham Palace was bombed 'I feel I can look the East End in the face' and on visiting the East End after a bomb and someone asking her if she had put on her best outfit she said 'Well you'd put on yours to visit me wouldn't you?'
She lived an indulged life but her stoicism and concern for the country and the people during the war was never forgotten.
I think HM might do a very good job of a tv speech if she genuinely showed her concern for the people.

TwelveIslands · 18/03/2020 23:30

Charles recording a webcam video from wherever he is would be a good idea for many of those idiot 70plussers intent on wandering about as if it was nothing. No need for a crew, he can sort it out himself and do a WeTransfer to the BBC.

IndoorWeather · 18/03/2020 23:31

The Queen Mother is often remembered for that because it’s about the only positive thing anyone can say for the raddled old soak.

Holothane · 18/03/2020 23:34

No not really, not interested in what she’d say. She’ll never have to worry about food ect.

TARSCOUT · 18/03/2020 23:41

Only if she's going to let us all have a shot of one of her many fabulous houses and not to have one bathroom shared between 4 people. Apart from that, not in the slightest bit interested.

TheSandman · 18/03/2020 23:54

Unless she's going to say something useful like "I've just given all my money to help you poor bastards" not the usual "Our thoughts are with you in these troubled times" platitudinous bullshit - then no, she should just fuck off.

CoolCarrie · 19/03/2020 00:14

The queen mother knew the royal family wouldn’t be allowed back to the UK if they had gone off to Canada, Britain would have become a republic if they had buggered off, she knew what side her bread was buttered, just like princess Margaret did.

UYScuti · 19/03/2020 00:48

Poor old Queenie self isolating in her vast premises with everything that she could possibly wish for right on hand
she's right there with us isn't she, we're all In It together

NoemieNioche · 19/03/2020 07:57

Charles recording a webcam video from wherever he is would be a good idea

He did one for the Australian fires. Doesn't give a fuck about the UK.

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 07:59

UY yep
It’s the last thing I want to see. Videos from the people with the safest jobs and position in U.K.

JudyCoolibar · 19/03/2020 08:03

What the hell is she there for? She's supposed to be addressing national crises. Get on with it, Madame.

How many 93 year olds that you know are working, let alone addressing national crises?

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 19/03/2020 08:06

Of course she should. FFS- what are we paying her for?- waving a bit?
I think its appalling she hasn't made a statement to encourage people and give them a boost. As per usual- she's absent when we most need a figure head. Privileged old hag

nagynolonger · 19/03/2020 08:48

The Queen and Charles need to do something. Fund a new lab or something with their spare millions? At it's worst 70+ (maybe younger) will not get a ventilator. A couple of 90+ will jump the queue.

William should do the same as lots of young daddies ie. Do a proper job. They won't be opening buildings, planting trees or doing foreign visits for a while. So he could go back to flying rescue helicopters.
