Wales are no longer reporting by local authority areas only by health board areas. Update due at 12. I've seen that NEWPORT has the highest number of cases than any other area yesterday. The phw page is saying that there are cases in every area of Wales and that they are positive the real number is higher.

It’s interesting to see how other EU countries are dealing with it.
For example Czech Republic.

Around 464 cases and all very well managed.
No death..
Also they got treatment for Covid19 - will be using Remdesivir.
Sadly this drug it’s not licensed in the UK, but Czechs managed to get it licences and will be giving it to the critical patients.
Also- they do not choose who they will let die, anyone has equal chance for equal treatment, they try their best to save everyone.
Well done to them.
U.K. is meant to be rich country and look what’s happening?
Czech is always classified here as poor Eastern Europe country and manage to get thousands of ventilators, full quarantine, Remderesin.
Also everyone has to wear face masks in public now.
Schools shut since two weeks ago.
And here?
Absolutely ridiculous.
I was today in Sainsbury’s- people coughing absolutely everywhere, seemed like no one is bothered at all.
No wonder it’s spreads like a fire!

Calmonthesurfacebut · 18/03/2020 12:00

So, I’m intermittently coughing. But no temp and working from home.

However without knowing if I’ve got it, I’m supposed to stay in for two weeks, dd not go to school and probably from tonight DH disrupts the whole office, when trying desperately to keep the business afloat, speaking to banks, trying to save jobs.

However, I might just have a normal cough which if I was tested would mean we can all go back to normal.

I understand the reason for self isolating, but not testing is crazy, how many others are having, lives, exams and precarious jobs disrupted, before maybe is necessary? It’s bonkers.

LaCherriesJubilee · 18/03/2020 12:01

The videos I've seen show robust looking boomers who seem to think it's a laugh they can get in first and grab stuff. Didn't show those I would have thought would need that special hour, more frail and elderly.

If they meet the age criteria, let them get on with it. I'm sure very quickly family and friends will start giving orders and you'll get 70 year olds dragging three loaded trolleys through the door into their family's waiting arms. Brits love to test how much they can get away with...

My SIL works evenings in a supermarket. She's surprised by the amount of shoppers who seem to think they won't catch it now, they're safe until the self isolation date starts on the weekend Confused

Calmonthesurfacebut · 18/03/2020 12:02

Two weeks ago, if someone was suspected, people came on hazmats and places were deep cleaned, now it just doesn’t matter.

I could easily go out and about (I won’t) and no one would know.

PM questions - HoC is looking very light on the ground, normally it's packed!

PM questions - HoC is looking very light on the ground, normally it's packed!

possibly sensible spacing between people?

CrunchyCarrot · 18/03/2020 12:06

Aha apparently the Whips have said only those asking questions should attend PMQs

BettyFilous · 18/03/2020 12:07

My boys’ school is instructing KS3 (years 7/8/9) to stay home from tomorrow.

ginghamstarfish · 18/03/2020 12:13

Just had Tesco delivery, Scotland here, lots of subs but nothing actually missing, even got toilet rolls to my surprise. Pasta and rice were removed (by Tesco) from the order a few days ago. Man looked very harrassed, I guess they have to be even quicker with all the new online orders. I do have deliveries booked for the next 4 weeks, but wondering if they will happen ....

Oakmaiden · 18/03/2020 12:13

@Homkaismycat

Also- they do not choose who they will let die, anyone has equal chance for equal treatment, they try their best to save everyone.

They have less than 500 cases though. We have more than that and are treating everyone. But the fear is we will reach the point that is no longer possible.

Homkaismycat · 18/03/2020 12:21

@oakmaiden
Yes they don’t have as many cases, but they cases now going steeply up.
If I remember correct they had about 70 cases last week and suddenly it started doubling..
They have few very critical patients ( Uber drivers) and I read today that these patients will be getting the new drug Remdesivir in order to save them.
Of course I know U.K. is much bigger country with bigger population numbers, but they also doing other things differently like everyone has to wear mask if outside, schools closed..

Spiraeah · 18/03/2020 12:21

Morrison’s are advertising for temp drivers. Jobs for people who are temporarily laid off due to bar and restaurant closures etc? More delivery slots and they’re also ramping up click and collect. Imo it would be safer for everyone if only pickers were allowed in the supermarket.

Angryrant55 · 18/03/2020 12:23

Lewis Goodall - 'PM: “The House should expect decisions to be taken imminently on schools”

Sounds like we could be gearing up to closure. Certainly what many teachers I’ve been speaking to expect. '

VeniceBeach · 18/03/2020 12:38

@Elephantgrey Not the same uni library based on your description, but solidarity Flowers

CharlieTangoBanana · 18/03/2020 12:50

I code to go for my blood test at a cottage hospital thinking it would be safer than the one in the city. I said to the phlebotomist you must all be so concerned and while she's taking blood from me tells me that she was on the two segregated wards this morning (confirmed cases of covid) with only aprons and masks for protection, no clean scrubs afterwards nothing to protect the people in clinic.
Italy will pale into insignificance once the truth is told about the UK

ItsALittleMoreNuancedThanThat · 18/03/2020 12:51

I'm supposed to have a blood test tomorrow. (I have cancer and COPD).

Spoke to a nurse today who said that they've arranged for us to have tests in the haematology unit rather than the main blood test place, but we'd all still have to sit in the waiting room together Confused

When I asked if that could be avoided, you could practically hear her rolling her eyes over the phone. Apparently they'll all have been self-isolating since last Friday, so it's all hunky dory.

I asked if I could be moved to next week, so that at least it's more likely that the other patents will have had nearer a fourteen day quarantine, & she got quite sharp with me.

Ended up with me in tears on the phone, (bit fragile as I was in hospital with sepsis a few weeks back).

I mean, fucking hell. I get these are straitened times, but don't try to bully cancer patients into putting themselves at risk, then gaslight them into thinking they're being unreasonable.

I am SO FUCKING ANGRY.

Thanks for these threads: been following since the beginning.

Note to one or two posters though: stop saying Boomers. It makes you sound like arseholes.

SunshineCake · 18/03/2020 12:53

@Spacecadetagain I'd report.

nellodee · 18/03/2020 12:58

How is it that the government are telling us that they are perfecting the timing of things like school closures, based on the best science of how people will behave, and how long they can tolerate a lockdown...

... and then only "recommend" that people stop socialising in bars and pubs.

Either they are brilliant at knowing how people will respond, and they WANT people to continue socialising, or they know eff all about how people will respond.

They cannot have it both ways at this point.

HRH2020 · 18/03/2020 13:03

My postman and two other people have said we are likely to go into lockdown on Thursday night. Not sure if just london. Has anyone else heard this? Would tie in with schools closing

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 13:05

@ItsALittleMoreNuancedThanThat That's shit. Really shit.

Can you wait somewhere else, empty corridor, outside and ask them to call you from there?

woodencoffeetable · 18/03/2020 13:05

EMA advice on covid-19 and ibuprofen

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 13:05

Nellodee I know. If they didn’t have a chart on the wall with stick finger Brighton woman, flee to Norfolk Mc, defiant 65 year olds, pint drinkers and cocky 92 year old Grans then I suggest we all shut and lock the door immediately. That peak is hurtling faster than they said.

woodencoffeetable · 18/03/2020 13:06

There is currently no scientific evidence establishing a link between ibuprofen and worsening of COVID‑19. EMA is monitoring the situation closely and will review any new information that becomes available on this issue in the context of the pandemic.

ItsALittleMoreNuancedThanThat · 18/03/2020 13:08

Thanks Helenj1977.

Tbh, my mind has started wandering down the what-if corridor now. How do I know the phlebotomist won't have CV? It's a bloody nightmare Sad
