My neighbour thinks total lockdown by friday including no going out for food. Can't see that - not sure they is enough people to home deliver to everyone so some will surely need to go to shops.

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 13:10

Where would they get that info Angry?

kirinm · 18/03/2020 13:11

@angryrant55 - does your neighbour have specialist insight or is that just a hunch?

HRH2020 · 18/03/2020 13:13

Re the lockdown: This is a friend of a friend thing isn't it; my postman said his friend is in the Met and my other friend is dating a solider; so the rumour is coming from all angles!

Are we expecting anything new being announced this afternoon?

SistemaAddict · 18/03/2020 13:14

OhGrin Cross post there!

SunshineCake · 18/03/2020 13:14

I am self isolating now as dd and I have a cough. I'm scared, worried and apprehensive for us all.

AHintOfStyle · 18/03/2020 13:15

John Swinney (MSP, deputy 1st Leader, Scottish cabinet head for education) has a press conference at 2pm regarding Scottish schools and education.

Quartz2208 · 18/03/2020 13:18

Angryrant55 not even China locked down for not going out even for food so I really cant see that one!

London is seen as an epicentre so they may well lock that down first.

Schools are going to close Friday I reckon across the UK for a month minimum

Keepmeawayfromthecrisps · 18/03/2020 13:21

Scottish schools likely to close this week

There are still plenty people around who think it's not a big deal. I just spoke to one and he reckons 70 dead is not much compared to the number who die of flu. He's a lovely guy and not stupid. It's hard for the government to get the message across to some. Meanwhile almost nothing left in our town's shops. Confused

AHintOfStyle · 18/03/2020 13:22

@Quartz2208 I would say way more than a month

MurrayTheMonk · 18/03/2020 13:23

I think lock down is coming this week... of all
The nations with cases there is only us and Belarus not doing it, so 5 live says...
We look like idiots. Correctly so.

Forgone90 · 18/03/2020 13:24

I dint realize 4000 people die a day from TB. Not at all trying to compare it to this virus but maybe when this is all over. Money should be able to be pumped into countries that fight things like this on a daily basis for years on end :[

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 13:25

I’m afraid we’ll be struggling for a long time to do that

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2020 13:34

My neighbour thinks total lockdown by friday including no going out for food

The capacity of the supermarkets to deliver isnt enough to feed the country.

There will be people without food.

Even in Italy people are allowed to go and buy food.

Not viable. Your neighbour is talking arse.

The problem is more with not issuing a legal enforcement of closure of social places (like university unions). And schools still open so people think psychologically it's not serious and do things like natter at the school gates.

Eurovision cancelled. 😭

Horehound · 18/03/2020 13:35

There's not going to be a lockdown where you can't even get food. Ffs that's just completely STUPID
Stop scaremongering

Horehound · 18/03/2020 13:36

Fuck sake. I'm pissed about Eurovision. I love it!

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 13:37

Angry you do seem to post some ott posts

"ALL schools in wales to close from Friday

Education minister Kirsty Williams has released a statement saying that the Easter break is being brought forward and "schools across Wales will close for statutory provision of education at the latest on Friday, March 20.

"From next week, schools will have a new purpose. They will help support those most in need, including people involved in the immediate response to the coronavirus outbreak. I am working with my colleagues in the Cabinet, with government officials and our partners in local government to develop and finalise these plans.

"The key areas we are looking at are supporting and safeguarding the vulnerable and ensuring continuity of learning. We are looking in detail at how we can support and safeguard all those who benefit from free school meals and children with additional learning needs. I will make sure you are kept up-to-date.
"While this will apply to schools, childcare settings are expected to remain open until we have definitive advice from the Chief Medical Officer and from Public Health Wales that any closures are required. Parents can, and should, speak with their usual childcare providers if they need care over the Easter holidays"

She is also due to speak in the Senedd at 1.30pm."

Thank goodness for that! Have spent all morning trying to decide whether to make today my kids last day in school or let them see out the week. Feel like the decisions been made for me.

Anyone know if we can watch the Senedd live?

lubeybooby · 18/03/2020 13:42

I'm generally the happiest, most positive person. Always see the bright side and look for the good fortune that comes from the bad yadda yadda.

I trusted our government to handle this but now I think we are just sleepwalking into disaster. So few people seem to be taking notice of the advice.

Anyone else think the government needs to get much, much tougher, stop just ineffectively pleading and actually enforce things?

kirinm · 18/03/2020 13:42

My DP has heard rumours (just rumours) re government sending out "lockdown forms" to some companies. No idea what they might be let alone if that is even vaguely close to the truth.

My company said that they didn't think it would be an option to be coming into the office soon. Do some businesses get told about lockdowns ahead of it being announced?

SistemaAddict · 18/03/2020 13:44

Well, look on the bright side: at least we'll be spared the embarrassment of our Eurovision entry and awards of nil point.

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 13:44

You must have to ensure your premises were safe for that period. Usually businesses are safe overnight but maybe there’s extra stuff no idea.
