Re schools, I think it depends on where you are.
Where I am, semi rural in the nw there doesn't seem to be too many kids off or ill kids atm.
Many parents work in industries where there is an ability to work from home.
However there a lot of grandparents still around and it is quieter than normal.
Still lots of grabbing at the fates this morning.
School have cancelled some after school activities but not all. I'm waiting for a text today to see if DSs after all club today will go ahead or not.
This means that even though the kids are still in school some parents now have a gap in child care provision between school finishing and their regular after school care (the club picks up kids from school after school clubs until the parents pick them up from work). No one is sure what's happening tonight. I don't know what time I'm supposed to pick up my son yet!!!
Talk here is that they are aiming to keep the school open till next Friday and then close for a long easter. But I don't think all schools are going to make it that far. As things stand, unless parents panic or the government closes them or we are hit by a wave in the next couple of days, I am starting to think that's when we will run to.
I think things could be further complicated for a lot of local parents as many are teachers in the neighbouring local authorities or they have kids at a different school in a neighbouring authority as we are right on the border.
My suspicion is that it will be along local authority boundaries rather than a blanket national closure or it will be individual closures based on staff shortages or head teacher decisions.
It's a right mess.
