And agree with pp that the advice to socially distance etc is ridiculous and impractical if you have dc at school. It's too late as many vulnerable will already be infected now.
I've got asthma so now very worried

CharlieTangoBanana · 18/03/2020 10:33

I've had the results of my X-ray and have pneumonia, normally this would warrant a hospital admission but GP has spoken to my respiratory nurse and the advice is to add a third antibiotic and try and manage at home. Extraordinary times when GP's are being asked to manage complex chronically sick patients at home, I can't imagine the NHS ever recovering from this, welcome to third world healthcare - so sad.

How is everyone feeling this morning

Anxious, near tears and angry at Government's half arsed strategies.

Best wishes to all on here who are unwell Flowers

Trump keeps calling it the Chinese virus. Why do i think he is plaining a revenge war against China.

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 10:45

Trump said ‘we’ when China got it under control first speech.

Alone07 · 18/03/2020 10:45

Worried about my 4 year old, she has suspected coronavirus but wont know for sure as they wont test.
She is on antibiotics as precaution as been unwell with crackling chest and fever for over a week.
I can't sleep because Im keeping a close eye on her and worried for my other children.
I'm sad because they dont understand and there loosing out on probably months of their childhoods.
But I know it's for the best, just hard.

BNO Newsroom - 'BREAKING: Spain reports 1,890 new cases of coronavirus and 25 new deaths, raising total to 13,716 cases and 533 dead

RedToothBrush · 18/03/2020 10:51

Re schools, I think it depends on where you are.

Where I am, semi rural in the nw there doesn't seem to be too many kids off or ill kids atm.

Many parents work in industries where there is an ability to work from home.

However there a lot of grandparents still around and it is quieter than normal.

Still lots of grabbing at the fates this morning.

School have cancelled some after school activities but not all. I'm waiting for a text today to see if DSs after all club today will go ahead or not.

This means that even though the kids are still in school some parents now have a gap in child care provision between school finishing and their regular after school care (the club picks up kids from school after school clubs until the parents pick them up from work). No one is sure what's happening tonight. I don't know what time I'm supposed to pick up my son yet!!!

Talk here is that they are aiming to keep the school open till next Friday and then close for a long easter. But I don't think all schools are going to make it that far. As things stand, unless parents panic or the government closes them or we are hit by a wave in the next couple of days, I am starting to think that's when we will run to.

I think things could be further complicated for a lot of local parents as many are teachers in the neighbouring local authorities or they have kids at a different school in a neighbouring authority as we are right on the border.

My suspicion is that it will be along local authority boundaries rather than a blanket national closure or it will be individual closures based on staff shortages or head teacher decisions.

It's a right mess.

stuckinreverse · 18/03/2020 11:00

sitting in bed with sore hands, eating walkers baked, i have not left the house in 2 weeks, all deliveries & food shopping left in porch, this morning husband decides to answer the fucking door, i went ape shit, i give up, what with his poor hygiene & lack of common sense, he's a fucking liability

CharlieTangoBanana · 18/03/2020 11:17

I'm livid with our local very large comprehensive school 1800 pupils, they are bused into our small village with an ageing population and immediately hit the local co op which is one of only two shops in the village where you can buy food, they buy doughnuts by the dozen, croissants, smoothies, crisps, pasties, pre made sandwiches, sausage rolls etc etc meanwhile locals are limited to one bread item, one packet of biscuits, one meat item, three fruit or veg items and two tins. So elderly people are having to shop more frequently while the in house bakery is feeding kids from all over the place. The school has said they won't be closing, it's business as usual lots of staff off sick so they have at least 13 university students on board as temporary teachers which they can do because of their academy status.

AIBU to want the government to bring in rationing

FourTeaFallOut · 18/03/2020 11:22

If the children are buying food like that every day then they clearly form a significant part of the shops customer base. The store might never be a viable proposition in such a tiny sleepy village without them. I don't see why children should be restricted from buying food there any more so than anyone else, it's not like they are going to hoard any of that stuff.

CharlieTangoBanana · 18/03/2020 11:26

I have to leave the house, I need a blood test to check that my CRP levels aren't raised but the wait for a home visit is almost three weeks as both the community phlebotomists are off sick.
There is no hope for any of us when someone with type 2 respiratory failure can't self isolate.

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 11:26

Schools in London must have a lot of positive CV

I just can’t get a handle on his mild it is v not and what that means for our risk

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 11:28

@CharlieTangoBanana Have you got CV? I missed that bit.

Please be careful and don't over do it when you go out x

Angryrant55 · 18/03/2020 11:36

Jonathan Freedland - ' “Chinese Virus.” Capital letters now. He wants this name to stick.'

I think Trump is plaining on starting ww3 with china.

CharlieTangoBanana · 18/03/2020 11:38

@FourTeaFallOut I'm sure they do form a significant part of the customer base but these are extraordinary times and the bakery might be doing more of a community service by prioritising people in the village which isn't small or sleepy, there are also a number of families in the village on low incomes who aren't able to book a delivery slot three weeks in advance and pay for shopping.
No child needs to buy six doughnuts a bag of Doritos and a can of coke at 8:00am while old people are unable to buy a modest amount of food to last a week and working single mums can't buy enough food to feed their kids.

bananacakeZ · 18/03/2020 11:38

Anyone work for a supermarket and seen the new elderly hour, how is that going? The videos I've seen show robust looking boomers who seem to think it's a laugh they can get in first and grab stuff. Didn't show those I would have thought would need that special hour, more frail and elderly. So is it working for those who need it, or just being used by cheeky fuckers?

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 11:38

Don’t say that Angry 🙈 can’t cope with the thought of it

thesunwillout · 18/03/2020 11:39

@Angryrant55

I didn't think he knew about uppercase letters.

13 new cases in Wales according to Public Health Wales - two deaths in total since start of epidemic

CharlieTangoBanana · 18/03/2020 11:43

@Helenj1977 I think it's highly unlikely that I have coronavirus as I've not left the house for weeks, I have respiratory failure so I'm in and out of hospital with chest infections and pneumonia all the time. I have a non invasive ventilator at home for use overnight and for two hours during the day.
I was worried before and advised a few weeks ago to self isolate by my consultant who was of the opinion that I wouldn't survive if I got it. Normally bloods would be done at home but I have no choice today but to go out.

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 11:43

Trump has very important news...

News conference at 4.30 with food and drug administration...

Helenj1977 · 18/03/2020 11:45

@CharlieTangoBanana That's crazy that you're having to go out for a blood test.

But, also good that your still getting some level of care x

Horehound · 18/03/2020 11:48

@stuckinreverse what's your situation? Do you have it?

McFarts · 18/03/2020 11:52

Long time lurker!

Can anyone please explain why figures in (well at least in mine they are!) local area's are changing constantly? my city had 3 confirmed cases for a number of days, then jumped to 13, then back down to 12, then 15 and now its saying 1 Hmm. It makes no sense at all.
