My charges (nanny) school's after school clubs were still happening. I didn't allow my charge to go (her activity is kids from other schools too!) It isn't my call usually but I am using my own judgement and trying to keep my contacts down.

IronW · 17/03/2020 16:45

407 new cases in UK today.

willdoitinaminute · 17/03/2020 16:49

As a HCP I know a number of young people who have underlying health problems that put them in the high risk group. They will appear perfectly healthy to anyone who does not know about their health issues.

How is schools staying open supposed to work? I’m a teacher, and this morning had a student with a cough and high temperature. I talked them through the guidance about staying at home, but they refused to go to the medical room. We’d just had a meeting telling us we can’t diagnose the students or tell them what to do. So I sat in a room with them for an hour. Some kids were sent home ill, and us teachers were reporting any who were coughing but not going home. But what can we do? I can’t drag a 15 year old out of my classroom, and I can’t go against the school guidance that tells me I can’t tell them to go home. I’m just stuck with anyone who’s sick. Then I’m taking that home to my family. Doesn’t matter if I don’t go to the shops or a bar, because I can’t escape it at work.

I work with teachers who are carers for elderly parents who are so scared and stressed that there’s no protection for us. Teachers with underlying conditions and there’s no protection for us.

How is this supposed to work??

bananacakeZ · 17/03/2020 16:52

Iron that's 407 cases bad enough they triaged them and decided they were bad enough to be admitted to hospital. Not total.

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 16:52

Hunt for pm 🤣

I was amazed and I feel relieved because he mentioned all the worries, the testing, the models, the tracking, the ppe.

The only thing they didn't nail down was schools!
They mentioned the older generation but no other factors eg. Older fit people are having to do the school run.
Older people are autonomous and have to be given the choice to say no. Most people who look after primary age children are fit

Nothing about skeleton staff. Nothing about short term closures.. They should be throwing everything at this.

Skittlesss · 17/03/2020 16:54

School has been harder today. The poor kids are getting quite stressed out. Some developing symptoms and getting sent home, others panicking. It doesn’t feel fair on these children at all.

Horehound · 17/03/2020 16:55

I've just sorted myself out with redunday insurance...work for a large oil company so think I'm being sensible?

SistemaAddict · 17/03/2020 16:56

nazanin has been temporarily released! Fantastic news! I hope she's ok.

confusedandtired99 · 17/03/2020 16:57

Is he seriously over an hour late?

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 16:57

Utterly are you part of the union?

Can you tweet about this?.
I'm the same. We've lost control of the testing. We have students in all morning then sent home and feeling ill. No cleaning, no shutdown we don't know what's going on.

And a few days ago it's was made to seem like that's OK. 80% of people will get it, just give in, let it flow.

Then today and yesterday we are told, actually that's appalling, don't let it transmit No the only reason we are not testing is because we have no tests Shock

For this reason alone dc should be at home. Skelton staff. Emergency workers supported.

LottieBees19 · 17/03/2020 16:58

People still are not getting it. Seen lots of Yoga , Zumba on social media. Posting it’s still open and we have cleaned the mats!
Missing the point unless they are outside and meters apart.
Yes agree Hunt was great questioning committee.

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 16:59

yolo

I've never noticed Jeremy hunt before and it's a very pretty pass because I think he's rather dishy. I thought he did a sterling job today Blush

SistemaAddict · 17/03/2020 16:59

Center Parcs to close

Ventilatorshortage · 17/03/2020 17:01

Lottie I know.

Our waxer has posted saying she uses anti bacterial gel however she doesn't say she will wear a mask. This transmits through the throat and talking.

It's a shame.

Angryrant55 · 17/03/2020 17:02

First death in Iceland today was a 40 year old Australian tourist.

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 17/03/2020 17:03

Re: centrenparcs .. they can afford it at least! Good on them thinking of their staff, let's hope they pay them.

I'm feeling quite anxious about all of this, I've been on this thread since day one and it's really unfolded before our eyes. Two weeks ago people thought I was nuts.. now they are all just as worried or worse!

kirinm · 17/03/2020 17:04

Jeremy Hunt helped make the NHS the underfunded, on its knees constitution it is today. He is directly responsible for its inability to function properly.

rabbitsnose · 17/03/2020 17:04

I got told a month ago that I 'had more chance of dying from seasonal flu'.. yeah now look!

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 17:05

What is Jeremy Hunt’s role in it all? Does he have power over anything or is it more commentary

rabbitsnose · 17/03/2020 17:06

PM is here

kirinm · 17/03/2020 17:06

He was the health secretary under (I think) David Cameron and Theresa May. Not sure what his role is today other than people on a select committee.

Delatron · 17/03/2020 17:06

Agree about yoga studios. I run a studio and I have closed it even for privates. About 50% here have. The ones that are staying open are annoying me. It sends a mixed message. They go on about cleaning mats but that’s not the point! We still aren’t social distancing if we are running exercise classes in confined spaces. I’ve offered full refunds and won’t earn now for months but my clients health and safety is more important.

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 17/03/2020 17:07

Hunt will be blamed for the state of the nhs when people start dying in big numbers. Being reasonable now is damage limitation, that's all.
